Heaven – Not Everyone Belongs

anecdotal stories
Jeremiah 31:29, “In those days they will not say again, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’ s teeth are set on edge.'”

2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

No Gate-Crashers

Minutes after Debbie Armstrong and Cristin Cooper placed first and second in the women’s giant slalom at Sarajevo in the 1984 Winter Olympics, a tall stranger stood by them in the Mt. Jahorina pressroom, congratulating them. He even got Armstrong’s autograph.

Trouble was, he had no business being there. He wasn’t a press agent, a reporter or an official-or anyone else important. He was simply a gate-crasher who had slipped past security guards to mingle among the famous. Two days later he breached even tighter security to enter the main press center. Later that day he worked his way into the media center at the speed-skating oval.

It’s a hobby with him. He has successfully crashed World Series press conferences and at least seventeen Super Bowls. Once he even sat next to Farrah Fawcett at a heavyweight boxing match. He fakes credentials, outwits rigid security, bluffs his way where he isn’t welcome, and makes himself so comfortable that everyone thinks he belongs.

There is one place he will never enter if he doesn’t belong, however, and that is heaven. No one slips in there unnoticed, unwelcomed, or uncalled. Nor is there any masking one’s self in a clever disguise to outwit security, or flashing a fake ID card to scoot past a harried angel. Only those with their credentials intact will walk into the new Jerusalem.

Hell, a Choice

I’ll say it up front, I take no pleasure in this subject. I very rarely teach on Hell and yet as a preacher called and equipped by the Holy Spirit, I can’t teach on the Love of God and the Light of Christ Jesus without also speaking about the consequences of rejecting God Almighty, His Love and His Light.

What prompts me today is not just the state of the world in which we live, which is becoming ever more blatantly wicked and evil, but some relatives, whom I dearly love, who were raised to know better, but who have made comments that they know they are headed for Hell but they will be in “good company” and will be with others.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. If God is Love AND Light, then Hell has got to be just the opposite. No love and no light, none what-so-ever! This is not vain speculation either. The old argument or debate as to whether God can create a boulder He can’t lift is an example of vain and pointless speculation, but the concept and reality of Hell and what it may be like is found throughout the WHOLE Bible and not just parts.

“He (Jesus) answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. “The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” – Matthew 13:37-42.

“Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.” – Revelation 19:20.

“The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20:10-14.

lake of fire

Now we know that the Bible, inspired by the Holy Spirit, was still penned by men, under that inspiration. These men wrote according to what they could comprehend and one of the worst scenarios that they could describe was a lake burning with fire and brimstone, constantly. I won’t debate whether the Lake of Fire is actual fire or a description of the horrific pain and suffering that will take place for eternity. The Bible consistently describes the end, where Hell will actually go, to be a place of unspeakable pain and torment. I have no doubts as to the truth of that fact!

Hell, Gehenna, in the New Testament (Matthew 5:22, Matthew 25:41) is likened to the ancient valley of Hinnom from the Old Testament (Joshua 15:8, Jeremiah 19:2-6) where fires were constantly consuming the refuse outside of Jerusalem and worms fed on dead bodies disposed of there. It was a place that in the minds of those living around it that was representative of pain and torment.

But I want to give you another scenario to think on when considering Hell and the Lake of Fire as a real place of torment. Many of us can imagine being on fire and the intense, unrelenting pain that being burnt can cause. Many of us don’t get to adulthood without experiencing being burnt even in a minor way, whether it be from actual fire or a stove, etc..

God is love and lightWhen you think of God Whose very nature is Love AND Light, imagine a place, or try to imagine a place, created by God Almighty where His presence, His Love and His Light does not exist. This is extremely hard to imagine, because even in the world we live in today with the wickedness and evil becoming more blatantly open, we KNOW that God’s presence is still in the world giving Love and Light to and through His children! Whether they know it or not, the world and those who delight in evil are still getting the benefits AND blessings of those of us who have the Holy Spirit living within.

But again, try if you can to imagine total darkness, not even a flicker of light from ANY source, let alone God’s presence. It would be a darkness so total and so complete you couldn’t see the nose on your face in front of you and it would be thick. I can barely imagine it would be a smothering, claustrophobic situation. Now think if you can about a total lack of Godly Love. No joy, peace or any of the Spiritual Fruit that is derived from that Love. You are left alone with your intact memories, the possibilities AND the choices you made that made the present situation possible. How many people have ever been truly and wholly alone in this life? Let me tell you, Hell and the Lake of Fire will NOT be a place of evil congregating but a place of individual aloneness, wholly and totally for all eternity, for ever and ever.

People who flippantly admit they are heading for Hell and will be among “good company” have NEVER given the prospect any serious thought or even tried to imagine the torment. Even today as I’m writing this and try to envision the worst pain and suffering, it sends chills through me and fear for those who take it so flippantly!

Remember this and especially as you pray for the lost, whether you know them personally or just in a general way, God’s desire is that NONE, absolutely no one, would perish. But, He will NOT force His will on anyone. That is how great His love is for His creation, the individual! 2 Peter 3:9-10, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

The only reason the “day of the Lord” has not arrived yet, is because of His unlimited love and patience with mankind and the hope that many will repent. But remember, His patience and longsuffering do have a limit and the reason is because of that unlimited love for His children, the co-heirs of Christ Jesus, our Savior!

Those that do end up in Hell and the Lake of Fire will do so not because it was God’s Will or desire, but rather because God, until the very end, the very last moment, will honor an individual’s desire and personal will. A person makes their own choice and each choice has a consequence not just in the natural that we see daily, but in the eternal as well.

God breathedMan has been created with a spirit that gives him life and a soul which portrays his personality. The spirit, because it was “God breathed” (Genesis 2:7) lives for all eternity, but, whether it lives in the presence of God, our Heavenly Father, or it lives outside His presence, His Love and Light, is total based on the choice the individual makes. God will honor to the very end, the willful choices that each individual makes, though it most likely pains Him deeply. He created man to love, not to cast off, but man has the ability to choose whether to accept or reject that Love that our Creator and Heavenly Father is willing to give.

It is not a flippant circumstance to reject God’s presence, but has consequences that will go on forever and ever according to the Scriptures. When Hell and all it’s inhabitants are cast into the Lake of Fire, the Bible calls this the second death. That death is forever outside the presence and nature of God, Himself. It is the final and eternal death. Don’t be fooled, it is death because of being separated from the Living God. You spirit will continue to live on in torment and pain. Wailing and gnashing of teeth as the Bible describes it. Today, that doesn’t go far enough to paint the utter and total despair that will be in the spirit of the individual who is suffering.

As born-again Christians, true followers and disciples of Christ Jesus with a personal relationship, we should be developing, if not already developed the same desire as our Heavenly Father that, “none should perish.” Some aspect of Godly love is missing in our nature and character if we don’t have that same desire evident in our lives. We know, because of what the Bible tells us, that many people shall take the broad way that leads to destruction, but just because we know it, we should be prompted all the more by that knowledge to fervently pray for the lost and especially those that we know on a personal basis. It is time for the Church, the True Church to wake up and recognize our responsibility to our fellow creation, to mankind. God truly does hear our fervent and sincere prayers and remember, as long as Christ Jesus is Lord of Lord, there is ALWAYS hope for our loved ones and as long as they are alive, there is a chance that our prayers for their salvation will be answered!

Revival, true revival starts in the heart of every person and revival will take place when we sincerely and fervently pray for the lost. The time is short; the season of the world indicates that, so that means the harvest is ripe and we need to be doing our part in that harvest!

Don’t for a moment think that Hell is not real, or some eternal vacation spot for the Bible is clear about one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt; it will be a place of eternal and utter torment unlike anything any of us can even begin to imagine. As precious and as joyful beyond imagination that the Kingdom of Heaven will be, Hell and the Lake of Fire will be every bit beyond imagining.

With such a serious topic, take joy in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father IS longsuffering, but He IS true to His Word. We have an awesome tool in our spiritual arsenal and that is prayer, communion with a loving Heavenly Father!

Dying To Self – Living For Others

*Pastor’s Note: This is another short article I wrote in the late 90s along with some others for the Church section of the local newspaper where we lived in Globe, Arizona. I thought it might interest my readers and I HAVE updated some of the Scriptures references. All in all, it is pretty much as it was published in the Church editorial of the newspaper. The pictures were added for this posting.

I want to take this time to let you know that one of the most thankful things in my life is being associated with brothers and sisters who love the Lord AND their fellow man so much that they would spend part of their lives praying for others!!!

The Bible tells us that no greater love is there than when someone lays down their life for another. The world looks at that as someone who would face death for another and that is part of it, but Jesus already faced that part. What this means in the spiritual is a wholly different thing and I want you to think about this:

When you spend you time in prayer for another that is time in your life that you will never recoup. It is time that you are giving up because you love your fellow man AND the Lord above so much that you would rather spend part of your life in communion and fellowship with the Spirit of God for the spirit of mankind!

THAT is giving your life, minute by minute, hour by hour etc., however long it takes and how ever long you unselfishly put aside the things your human nature would rather do just so that you can do what your spiritual nature deems is more important!

When you put your life on the line as far as choosing a physical death, it is a once in a lifetime thing, over and done with. Yes, it is heroic, but how much more value is there in putting your life on hold, over and over and over again so that others might have a more abundant lifestyle?

Remember that the Word of God tells us:
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” (Romans 8:13).

And Paul reaffirms this very thought when he mentioned in his letter to the Corinthians, “I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.” (1 Corinthians 15:31).

dying to live

We all know that means a spiritual death, by putting the “old human nature” to death so that the spiritual man can have ascendance over the human nature. That should be the “hint” that what the Holy Spirit is telling us when He says to lay down our life for another, it is referring to laying or putting down our human nature, the things that we selfishly want for ourselves so that we can give of ourselves unselfishly for the lives of others! You do that every time you stop to pray. Every time you stop your natural inclinations and use your time to commune with your Heavenly Father, you are laying your natural life on the line!

I also want you to consider this: Jesus died on a cross of pain and torture to pay for our sinfulness and purchase for us a place with Him at the Father’s throne. But, unlike some like to portray, He didn’t stay on that cross and He certainly didn’t stay in the tomb!! Rather, He arose again that He might actually LIVE for us. Now, what an awesome example of living for others that truly is! Aren’t we supposed to do the same? Think about it.

Remember, Jesus said that the Father is looking for those who will worship Him, the Father, in Spirit and Truth, for God, the Father IS a Spirit and those that worship Him can’t do it in the natural, (John 4:24), you have to put the natural man aside, lay your natural life aside, lay it down, so that you can allow the spiritual man inside to live for the Father and for others!!

This is a lot to think about and it is not something that is taught very often or in many places, but just as the Apostle Paul told the scholars in Athens, I say the same thing, “let us REASON together.” I guarantee that if you give it a little thought, you will see it clearly in the Scriptures, in ALL the Scriptures and not just a few and you will see that I am speaking truth.

God bless you richly!

Hope Gives Us Spiritual Strength

In the times we are facing right now, in our nation AND in the world, hope is needed more than ever. It is a time when many are “feeling” hopeless and yet the Word of God with its abundant promises gives everybody reasons to hope. But you MUST trust in the Lord and believe that what He says is TRUTH!

The following are numerous Scriptures meant to instill hope into your heart. If you are fearful or at the least doubtful of what is happening around us, take heart, for God has never ceased to be in control. These things MUST happen for His prophesied plans to unfold so that His Children can escape the judgment and wrath to come.

Copy these Scriptures and put them into a handy place for when you might start to feel down or question what is going on. They are sure, no, they are guaranteed to lift your heart and spirit!

book of hope

“For the needy shall not always be forgotten; The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.” – Psalm 9:18.

“I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.” – Psalm 16:8-9.

“Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.” – Psalm 31:23-24.

“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, . . .” – Psalm 33:18.
“Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.” – Psalm 33:22.

“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.” – Psalm 43:5.

“Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.” – Psalm 119:116.

“The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish.” – Proverbs 10:28.

“Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off.” – Proverbs 23:17-18.

“So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul; If you have found it, there is a prospect, And your hope will not be cut off.” – Proverbs 24:14.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:7-8.

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” – Lamentations 3:24.

“I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.” – Acts 24:15-16.

“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” – Romans 5:5.

“For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.” – Romans 8:24-25.

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” – Romans 15:4.

God's grace gives hope

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13.

“Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech– . . .” – 2 Corinthians 3:2.

“For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.” – Galatians 5:5.

“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:8.

“In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, . . .” – Titus 1:2.

“That having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” – Titus 3:7.

“But Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.” – Hebrews 3:6.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1.

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; . . .” – 1 Peter 1:13.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; . . .” – 1 Peter 3:15.

hope is rising

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:28-31.

In The Blink of An Eye . . .

Just like that….it could all be gone, love more today than yesterday, because we are not promised the future; yes love can and will go away.

Care for your brothers and sisters, for your children; husbands, your wives, we are not guaranteed to always be here, for you see we all will die.

It is then that we will cross over; to be with the ones that we love, it is not past tense, but the future, we will find that GOD’S grace was enough.

Life passes by so quickly, slow down and take time to live, spend time with the one’s closest to you; when we take we also should give.

We all have, (what I call), an appointment; to meet the Creator of all, so live like your life is worth living, HE will catch you if you happen to fall.

GOD loves us so much that HE gave us, JESUS; the gift to mankind, HE chose the will of the Father; HE died to give sight to the blind.

Open your eyes, JESUS love’s you, HE died so that you can have life; you are not promised tomorrow and can be gone in the blink of an eye.

Love, as if it were like breathing; give till you can’t give no more, hope, have faith, keep believing; always love, (that’s what living is for).

Love GOD give HIM all the glory; we will see HIM appear in the sky; then we shall forever be with HIM, all in the blink of an eye.

I Heard Your Voice In The Wind

Although the Author of this is unknown, it was shared on Facebook by my lovely wife, Sue Ledoux. Credit of course to the author but also to my wife for sharing such a beautiful poem. I also wanted to add, that though this would be appropriate for our love for lost loved ones, it fits perfectly with our Love for Christ Jesus as well! Enjoy and be blessed!

Expectations – Unfulfilled

anecdotal stories
Judges 2:7, “The people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who survived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD which He had done for Israel.”

Judges 2:10, “All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.”

Romans 2:17-23, “But if you bear the name “Jew” and rely upon the Law and boast in God, and know His will and approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law, and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth, you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal? You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?”

Not Much Returned

Sohio, the Alaskan subsidiary of Standard Oil of Ohio, drilled a well in the Beaufort Sea in 1983, hoping to tap a geological formation holding several billion barrels of oil. Instead, they hit water, and $120 million went a glimmering. The oil companies know the risk. They drill only after extensive soil samples and aerial photos offer substantial possibilities of success. Yet despite the precautions, geological formations that promise to break all records for oil or gas deposits break the bank instead. Such risks are considered acceptable, however, as a strike like the one contemplated would have repaid the investment many times over.

God understands the problem of bad investments, dry holes, wasted millions, and unrequited love. How often have our lives turned out to be water where oil was expected; wild grapes instead of pruned vines; rebels instead of allies. And we have no excuse. God has built energies, talents, and giftedness into every generation of Christians, in order that Christ’s mission can successfully be implemented. But does the will and personal commitment exist to do it? If we would invest energy, time, and expertise equivalent to a modicum of the money spent by the oil companies, what miracles the Holy Spirit would perform in society!

The Rapture and Tribulation

1 Corinthians 15:51-53, “Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed–in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18, “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

Acts 1:9-11, “Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

As many of you know I have been fighting cancer now for a little over a year and I have been off Social Media for about six months while dealing with Chemo and Radiation therapy. Thank the Lord, that is done and I only have a surgery to get behind me to make sure I am clear of the cancer.

But in the interim, I have not followed many posts while dealing with the debilitating effects of the treatment, so suffice it to say that as I have started to recuperate I have been surprised at some posts I have seen in Social Media stating a disbelief that there will even be a Rapture.

rapture of church

Now it is true that the Bible does NOT use that term, Rapture. That truly is a religious term, but it aptly describes what the Apostles, especially the Apostle Paul and even Jesus Himself spoke about numerous times. (See chapters of Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21 and John 14:3-4).

1The origin of the term extends from Paul the Apostle’s First Epistle to the Thessalonians in the Bible, in which he uses the Greek word harpazo, meaning “to snatch away” or “to seize,” and explains that believers in Jesus Christ will be snatched away from earth into the air. It is derived from Middle French rapture, via the Medieval Latin raptura (“seizure, kidnapping”), which derives from the Latin raptus (“a carrying off”). (How’s that for a little Etymology?!).

What has surprised me recently is as I have been catching up with missed posts on Social Media and in light of the stolen election in our nation, the blatant corruption going on not just in our nation but in the world that there are many posts where people are actually coming out and stating a total disbelief in the Rapture and that we will ALL go through the Tribulation period which is a time of God’s judgment and wrath upon a rebellious and corrupt world.

Now I admit there is debate among Bible scholars and Bible teachers about when, in relation to the Tribulation that the Rapture or “snatching away” will take place, but I again reiterate something I do so often in ALL my teaching; you can’t just take bits and pieces of Scripture to fit your theories, no matter how traditional they are or how sure you are. You MUST fit your theories to the WHOLE counsel of God’s Word!

Now not just speaking in regards to the Rapture or even to Tribulation, we must consider our Heavenly Father’s whole Character and Nature! Paul says this in his writings under the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit:

“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:8-11.

Verse 9 specifically states that God did not, nor does He “appoint us to wrath.” Paul also writes this at the beginning of Thessalonians:

“Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.” – 1 Thessalonians 1:8b-10.

wrath of God

Yet, there are those who will not just debate but argue that there is no Rapture and that we must all suffer the Tribulation. As I stated, there are good arguments for Pre-Tribulation Rapture and even Mid-Tribulation Rapture and all we can do is be prepared with our “oil lamps lit and full of oil” to await the Bridegroom. Either scenario, God, with His Holy Spirit will protect His children from the pouring out of the Bowls mentioned in Revelation and the wrath that will befall those left in the world under the reign of the Anti-Christ until Jesus once again sets foot on the Mount of Olives!

It is important for a Christian, a TRUE believer to know WHY you stand on a certain principle, doctrine or concept and the only way you CAN know is to immerse yourself into the Word of God and be careful to take what you read in the context with which it was written under inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

While I was doing some research for this, I found this interesting yet disturbing statement in the online Wikipedia concerning the Rapture, which just goes to confirm what I was stating about some posts on Social Media:

2Most Christian denominations do not subscribe to rapture theology and have a different interpretation of the aerial gathering described in 1 Thessalonians 4. Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Presbyterians, United Methodists, the United Church of Christ, and most Reformed Christians do not generally use rapture as a specific theological term, nor do they generally subscribe to the premillennial dispensational views associated with its use. Instead these groups typically interpret rapture in the sense of the elect gathering with Christ in Heaven after his second coming and reject the idea that a large segment of humanity will be left behind on earth for an extended tribulation period after the events of 1 Thessalonians 4:17.

jesus in cloudsMany well-meaning Christians confuse the Second-coming of Christ Jesus, the time when He comes back towards the end of the Tribulation and sets His feet upon the Mount of Olives, with the Rapture, where He is NOT setting foot upon the earth, but calling from the heavens, the “clouds: with a trumpet blast, the Father’s children, the dead in Christ Jesus first, then those believers that are awaiting His return.

This is the time when we shall ALL, the dead in Christ first, then the remaining believers shall be changed as the Bible tells us endowed, just as Christ Jesus is with an incorruptible body. The dead first shall take on incorruptibility, then those that remain, shall sluff off, “die” to this mortality and be renewed in incorruptibility. All this will happen faster than the human eye can blink. If you can measure an eye twinkle, you could calculate the time it will take for us to lose our corruptible flesh and take on incorruptibility, to become like Jesus in body.

Remember, the Word of God says this; “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” – Hebrews 9:27-28.

In that “twinkling of an eye” that the Apostle Paul describes, the mortal, corruptible must die before the incorruptible will be possible but it will happen so quickly, we most likely won’t even realize that our old flesh died away!! Think about how the Scriptures describe that and be comforted!

Now this study has been more about the Rapture itself and it’s relation to the Tribulation. I personally believe a certain way because of the Scriptures and the very Nature and Character of our Almighty Father. Only time will prove whether I am right or I am wrong, but in the meantime I am saved because I have been born-again by the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus and I am awaiting Redemption as are all my true brothers and sisters in Christ.

The fact remains concerning the Tribulation that there may be three and a half years that APPEAR to be peaceful, but once the Anti-christ turns on Israel, real judgment and wrath from the Father will come to this world. God’s children will NOT suffer through that wrath according to the promised of God, our Father and His Holy Word!

Whether we as believers, see the Anti-christ introduced or not, again is up for debate. Personally I believe he is already in the world because of the “signs of the times and seasons” and yet I believe it is the Holy Spirit within the hearts and souls of believers that is keeping him from arising to power in which he can spread his evil plans. We WILL see the world get worse and more corrupt around us, just like Noah and his family did, while they remained obedient to the Lord until the Lord, Himself, shut Noah and his family into the Ark. Noah was not given a time-line, he was just told to build the Ark and he was faithful and obedient.

noah was faithful

We have been given a prophetic mandate also without a definite time-line, though we CAN know the “seasons” of the age around us. We are witnessing the world as a whole getting worse and more corruption around us, but we also must remain faithful and obedient with our tasks we have been given. Soon the trumpet will sound and the Lord will “seal” us into the ark of the Rapture until He steps foot on the earth a second time.

Those that are religious, and not walking according to the Spirit will continue to argue and justify their beliefs, but it can’t be done when taking into consideration the WHOLE counsel of God. There is no need to argue or debate for the same Spirit that leads us can deal with their lack of faith and belief in the Word of God.

As the Apostle Paul stated, comfort one another with this thought and the Word of God and the Lord’s promises to His children. The spiritual rain is soon coming upon the world, let us remain vigilant and obedient and not forget to warn those around us. They may mock us and ridicule us, but even one saved soul will be worth it.

Come quickly Lord Jesus! Amen and AMEN!!

Born of The Spirit

John 3:5-7, “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.'”

Zeal: Striving For Spirit-Led Passion

*Pastor’s Note: This is another short article I wrote in the late 90s along with some others for the Church section of the local newspaper where we lived in Globe, Arizona. I thought it might interest my readers and I HAVE updated some of the Scriptures references. All in all, it is pretty much as it was published in the Church editorial of the newspaper. The pictures were added for this posting.

It’s said that confession is good for the soul and I admit that it’s true. Something that I have had to battle with from time to time is temper; you know, anger, blowing up. Oh, I’m not proud of it by any means, but don’t get me wrong, I don’t get mad at the drop of a hat. Usually, it takes something fairly wrong for my temper to display itself. I’ve told people in the past it’s because I have a real passion for what is right.

That isn’t an excuse I know. The Bible says in Galatians 5:20 that “outburts of anger,” the King James Bible calls it wrath, are deeds of the flesh, something that is in direct opposition to the Spirit. In verse 24, Paul says, “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with it’s passions and desires.” The original Greek word for passion means emotion, typically something that influences your actions. In other words, we are to crucify that which would control us other than the Spirit.

I’ve had well meaning Christians tell me that it’s okay to get mad from time to time; after all, Jesus Himself got mad and threw the moneychangers out of the temple in Jerusalem. The problem is, a lot of people use that scripture in John 2:13-17 to justify temper or anger. Anger, though, is not the central principle in that scripture, but zeal is. His disciples remembered from scripture, Psalms 69:9, that zeal, not anger, was one of Christ’s character traits prophesied by the Psalmist, King David. I’ve said it many times before, scripture does not contradict itself.

letting off steam - anger

The real key then is to take Christ’s example and develop zeal within our character. Now this is not a word that is thrown around in conversation much today, but maybe as Christians we need to bring it back. Simply put, zeal is a fervent devotion to a cause, and fervency means to have an intensity of feeling.

Sounds a lot like passion, doesn’t it? Very close. The difference though can be found throughout scripture. Zeal is always in conjunction with righteousness and good deeds. If you remember the significance of the temple, and all that it stood for, then you can get a picture of what motivated Christ in the incident recorded in John 2. Zeal was the motive and not anger.

I believe zeal is something, that as Christians, we need to cultivate back into our lifestyles. A very good friend, also a pastor, with whom I visit a lot was explaining to me his concerns for the apparent lack of “zeal” in many of our churches today. Our walk in the Lord should be exciting. It should have an intensity of feeling. Our living everyday should be filled with intense devotion to God, our Father. If the Lord is to be number one in our lives, we should be zealous towards Him. If the zeal is lacking in your lives, it’s easy to get hold of again. It’s a simple act of bending our knees before the Lord and asking.

In His message to the Church of Laodicea in Revelation 3, the Lord says in verse 19, “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; be zealous therefore, and repent.” For myself, I repent of angry outbursts, of which I have been guilty of plenty in the past. I would much rather strive to attain a greater amount of Spirit-led zeal.

God Bless,

Patience – Necessary

anecdotal stories
Jeremiah 25:11, “‘This whole land will be a desolation and a horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.'”

2 Timothy 2:24-26, “The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.”

Not Done Quickly

Counseling Luther to move more temperately, Erasmus judged that ancient institutions could not be quickly changed and would yield more easily to persuasion than condemnation. We can agree that Luther, not Erasmus, “understood the times,” and still appreciate the truth Erasmus stated.

Benjamin Rush disgustedly resigned after he repeatedly failed to get needed medical reforms through Congress for the Revolutionary Army. John Adams begged him to stay and fight the abuses from within. “Patience! Patience! Patience!” Adams said. “The first, the last, and the middle virtues of a politician.” Wasn’t the wicked Iago correct when he said, “How poor are they that have not patience. What wound did ever heal but by degrees?”

By it’s very nature, success in spiritual work is as elusive as the missing link. Workers feel they may as well plough the seas as to plant gospel seed in human hearts. The work of integrating faith and practice demands such firm, dogged efforts that many seek easier toil elsewhere. Spiritual work takes time – fast-profit entrepreneurs need not apply.

Patience – A.W. Tozer

Aiden Wilson Tozer (April 21, 1897 – May 12, 1963) was an American Christian pastor, author, magazine editor, and spiritual mentor. Self-taught theologian. Fearless preacher. Gifted writer. Man of the inner life. A.W. Tozer, called by many a “modern-day prophet.” Observing contemporary Christian living, Tozer felt the church was on a dangerous course toward compromising with “worldly” concerns. He was a man who was obsessed with the glory and the holiness of God and making it known to others.

James 1:2-4, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (NKJV)

If He put tribulation before you and said He will give you patience by giving you a little trouble along the way, wouldn’t you take a little trouble? You say, “Lord, I want all my highways paved.” The Lord says, “I’m sorry, I can’t accommodate you. I’m going to let you run over some bumps occasionally, so you will have patience.” You do not like the bumps, but you like the patience, and if you want the patience, you will have to take the bumps. And what is patience but experience?

What then are we to do about our problems? We must learn to live with them until such time as God delivers us from them. We must pray for grace to endure them without murmuring. Problems patiently endured will work for our spiritual perfecting. They harm us only when we resist them or endure them unwillingly.

Patience – Example Of

anecdotal stories
Joshua 14:7, “I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought word back to him as it was in my heart.”

1 Corinthians 15:49, “Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.”

2 Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.”

2 Peter 3:11-13, “Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.”

An Elusive Virtue

In 1404, twenty-five-year-old Lorenzo Ghiberti won a commission to build and adorn a pair of bronze doors for the north side of the baptistery in the cathedral of Florence, Italy. He took twenty-one years to design and cast the masterpieces, dividing the doors into twenty-eight New Testament panels. They cost $550,000. The donors then asked him to make corresponding double doors for the baptistery’s east side. This endeavor took twenty-seven years and featured the Old Testament in ten panels. He spent forty-eight years on just two projects, but his time and effort left artistic masterpieces for generations to admire.

Building spiritual lives challenges us to a perseverance that defies even Ghiberti. The free will, prejudice, stubbornness, and pride that mocks God are all obstacles to change and growth. The life produced by the Spirit in the Word seldom comes easily or quickly. People are never as easy to mold as bronze and wood. Although a skilled craftsman can predict how basic elements will react under given stimuli, the spiritual leader never masters the moods and reactions of people.

Be Patient, God Is Not Slack

2 Peter 3:9-10, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

2 Peter 3:11-15a, “Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation–. . .”

James 1:2-4, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Patience. Patience is one of the hardest virtues and it has been sometimes jokingly stated you never want to pray for patience for you will get more obstacles and tribulation than you ever bargained for!

patience - wisdom wp

But patience is many times the price of spiritual wisdom. Patience DOES take practice and as the saying goes, “practice makes perfect.”

With everything going on not just in our country, but in the world and prophetic words coming out of the woodwork like there is no tomorrow, I want to center this lesson on another important area of patience and especially for all true Christian Brothers and Sisters.

In this time we are living, we definitely need to be walking in the spiritual gift of discernment and listening to the Holy Spirit’s prodding as to what is right and from God our Father, and what is false and misleading.

The Apostle Paul told us in 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.” This is great advice, unfortunately many who claim to prophesy will share verse 20 alone and yet Paul wrote us under inspiration of the Holy Spirit a complete thought. We have, like the noble Bereans, a responsibility in what we accept into our lives as God’s Word.

spirit-and-wordA verbal word given as coming from the Lord by way of prophetic utterance will NOT contradict anything in the written Word of God. The Bible is our ‘go-to’ source of confirmation and it is our responsibility to be aware of what it says or at the very least to search it that what we receive is truth; God’s Truth.

There are many who have a reputation of giving prophetic words that come to pass, but there are equally as many, if not more, who, for whatever reason are stating that their words, or dreams or visions are from the Lord and they sorely miss the mark. Especially those that give specific times that they state God is going to accomplish something. When I hear dates, months or even years for specifics, I am right away suspicious and head to the Scriptures to see if their utterances match up with examples in the written Word of God!

God DOES warn and reveal spiritual secrets to His children, but He does so in the order and way He already established and informed us to follow. There are an untold number of examples of God’s Word to His prophets in the Bible; patterns and examples in which to follow that reveal the way the Holy Spirit relays information through His designated prophets.

Amos 3:7, “Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.”

God is faithful to keep His Church, His children informed, BUT, we have to be wise and KNOW when it is our Father speaking to us through others and when it is the motivated hopes and desires of man, himself.

I love to use the example of Noah as a man who heard from God and was not just obedient but patient concerning God’s Word as well. The Apostle Matthew wrote, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” – Matthew 24:35-39.

Noah building wpIn Genesis chapter 6 through 8 we see the story of Noah and his obedience to God in constructing an ark. Many believe it took 120 years for Noah to build the ark yet that is not what the Word says. It says Noah preached for 120 years. He was about 500 years old when he started building and about 600 when God shut him and his family in the ark. Never-the-less, the point I want to make is that in the beginning when God instructed Noah on what to do, God never revealed to Noah, at least as recorded by Scripture, the timeline for when the events God spoke of would take place. Noah was obedient, but more importantly He patiently waited on the Lord as he worked. All the while, God watched as the world of Noah’s day became even more and more corrupt.

Noah was obedient, patient and full of faith that God’s Word would come true and he was reward for that obedience, patience and faith. He stands today as one of the greatest men of faith recorded in the written Word of God.

If we consider Noah as a prime example, especially as we are expectantly awaiting the imminent return of Jesus Christ, we need to remain obedient to the Word He has given us and wait patiently, though expectantly for His appearance.

Much of this other stuff going on around us is important and impactful on our daily lives, and yet in the greater scheme of things our motive and obedience should be very clear. Christ’s return is OUR ark of salvation. His Word is clear about the season, not in the natural such as winter, spring, summer or fall, but in the season of events that is going on in the world around us. By these signs we KNOW that His return is imminent, but it is still happening as a “thief in the night,” (1 Thessalonians 5:2).

It is our job, our mission, just as it was in the days of Noah, to continue to preach and spread the Word of God. It doesn’t matter if the world considers us to be “nuts” or not, it is the obedience to the Lord that is important and we are to remain patient, and that patience shall translate into faith. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” – Hebrews 11:6. We please the Lord through our faith by being patient yet obedient.

Don’t be distracted by everything else going around us. But as the Apostle Paul stated and I reiterate, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21.

Pray about the Words that others speak as coming from the Lord, search the truth in the written Word of God, not to disprove them, but as the Bereans, to make sure that what you accept IS the Word of God. The greatest deception of the enemy is to get our eyes off of Christ, especially in the realm of religion, and to get our eyes and focus on those things going around us.

god is spiritRemember this; the Holy Spirit is alive and well and active today in our lives. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise and He will ALWAYS urge us to stay spiritually focused on Christ Jesus. The world and the events in the world will take it’s course just as God informed us and revealed to us. We already know that. God is aware of the details, let’s remember the importance of why we were saved, to spread the Word of God and to make disciples in all nations.

We each have unique gifts and prophecy is a spiritual gift, but it is not to be taken OR given lightly. Whenever any of us speaks, “thus sayeth the Lord,” there is a huge responsibility that goes along with that. Pray seriously about what you hear and remember this important point, anyone who says they are relaying what the Lord has shown them or given them, whether in word, dreams or visions, if it does NOT come to pass, it is NOT from the Lord, pure and simple.

We are human and we have natural tendencies, but as those who have been chosen to walk a spiritual lifestyle, we need to focus our eyes on the spiritual and less on the natural. There are those in the church-world with proven use of their spiritual gifts, but there are many that for whatever motive or reason, are using the turmoil of our time to speak as from the Lord. God will work in the lives of these people as only He can, but our responsibility is to make sure we test the spirits and confirm the spoken word to God’s written Word.

Be steadfast, be obedient, be patient and walk in faith. God Bless!!

The REAL Gift of Christmas

John 1:1-4, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

RELATIONSHIP!

I could end this little commentary right here. But I won’t.

God created us in His IMAGE/LIKENESS to have a relationship with Him just as He has with the Word. When the Father sent the Word, His Son, into the world in the form and image of mankind, it was to restore what His whole intent and purpose was in creating mankind in the very first place, to have a relationship with His Creation.

You may argue and say it was to “SAVE” us and redeem us. The truth is, those are the avenues, the tools He used in His vast wisdom to bring to us into a relationship. The Angel told Mary as was prophesied:

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” – Matthew 1:23.

This was the true key to why Jesus Christ, All-God and yet, All-Man was born into this world.

With all the seasonal hoopla that goes on during this time of year, INCLUDING the “religious” hoopla, do not forget the SPIRITUAL reason behind the Birth of our Savior. To bring us, in His fulfilled mission to a place where we can KNOW and RELATE to God, Almighty, our Creator and Father!

Remember the words of Jesus Himself; meditate and contemplate them and let them become a part of your very being, your very life:

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.” – John 14:6-10.

This is the very reason why the enemy of our souls targets relationships. If he can destroy relationships, then what are the chances of you ever having a relationship with our very Creator?

This Christmas season, I implore you to seek the ULTIMATE relationship, the one that is the very reason for your being, and the One in which any and all relationships will succeed. Jesus IS the reason for the Season, but the purpose of His coming within this Season is to have a relationship with God Almighty our Heavenly Father through which all other successful relationships shall flow.

May you all experience the joys, the wonders, the awesomeness of having a relationship with the ONE Who created you solely out of His love for who you can be!

Merry Christmas!!!
