3 John, Verse 1-4

Introduction

The Beloved Apostle John seems to love to write and instruct in Godly, unconditional and unselfish love and here in this short third Epistle or letter, we see one written on a personal basis, to commend someone who is loving others in a practical way. Though it IS a personal letter, as I stated it IS practical also in its demonstrable way of showing true Agape love.

John focus’ on three men to deal with the contrast of TRUE Christ-like love and the value it is to others and especially when associated with Christian values. Gaius, who had a habit of demonstrating hospitality to others, many times strangers, Diotrephes, who in John’s writings is a self-proclaimed leader in the church who appears to be only interested in his “power” and prestige and Demetrius who appears to love the truth.

As with all of John’s writings, the prevailing theme is Godly love, but here, since it is also a personal note, we can read it and use it as a self-examination of where we stand in relation to these three men. To which do we most readily identify? Do we generously give of ourselves and our resources to others in need, do we love the truth as a rule or as an exception OR are we like the self-proclaimed leader who is interested in “things” rather than the eternal condition of God’s creation? Or, as the case may be, are we a mixture of all three to one degree or another as the case often is?

This letter WILL cause the person reading it to reflect on their own personal relationships AND values to the extent that we are willing to open up ourselves to meet the needs of others.

3 John 1:1-4, “THE ELDER, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth:
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

Again, John refers to himself as the Elder, and to see my comments on that, you can refer back to the introduction and the first few verses of 2 John.

As stated above in the introduction, this is a personal letter AND a commendation to someone that appears to be a very dear and special person to the Apostle’s heart. It could be that John met Gaius on one of his own journeys and was extended hospitality from him as Gaius is known and has a reputation for this.

There are just a few themes that the Apostle touches on here, but the main one of course is the theme of hospitality and the love that is demonstrated to others through that hospitality. This letter also gives us a bit of an insight into the times of the very early church. As we know from the Book of Acts and even the Gospels, as well as some of the letters from the other Apostles we realize that early Christian teachers and missionaries traveled around and depended solely upon the generosity of then Christian people in the cities and towns they visited. The traveling missionaries relied on and needed that support for many, even unto Johns time, relied on what Jesus commanded the disciples upon entering a town and John, being the last living disciple who knew Jesus personally most likely had this in mind when commending Gaius. (Matthew 10:9-15, Mark 6:7-11, Luke 10:4-12).

Now I also want to point something out in verse two that is often used to promote material prosperity in this life. Prosperity teachers LOVE to take this out of context and use it to promote there wealth messages! I have no problems with Christians earning and accruing wealth in a business sense and especially if they are liberal givers as well. God blesses some to be that way, but it is not a far cry or a stretch of the imagination to hear in many messages the LOVE of that wealth conveyed. Over my years as a preacher and a teacher I have probably heard ALL the lies used to promote wealth in the Church of Christ Jesus and yes, they are LIES from the pit of hell as far as I am concerned. I actually have peers that would debate with me on the subject and you could not dissuade them no matter what from that hellish teaching!

As I stated, I am not opposed to Christians with wealth, but I am opposed when that wealth and the security of that wealth overshadows the Love of God towards others and seems to be the reason for their very lives. If this offends some of my brothers and sisters reading this, THAT is between you AND God and I say that in sincere love, but the prosperity teaching of today only serves one purpose and that is to subtly get your eyes off of those things that are above or heavenly and unto those things that are earthly or below.

The very fact that Jesus, Himself, sent out the disciples two by two with no extra resources, and the fact that the Apostles in their writings and especially the Apostle Paul’s tells us they took this very, very seriously and then hear is the last remaining Apostle, respected as the living Elder of the Christian Church, stating to his beloved brother in the Lord, that he desires his BODY to prosper in health JUST as his soul prospers! This is another slam to the Gnostics teaching of John’s day.

Now granted, we have no idea what kind of status, Gaius held in the community, materially, but riches and “things” were not brought up in this letter concerning Gaius. From all indications and for all intents and purposes, Gaius could be one that was just willing to share with others what little he did have. The theme isn’t to accrue wealth to disperse it, as so many are preaching today with a socialist-type message, but rather, to share what you DO have with those who have need, when the need calls for it. There was a purpose to Gaius’ giving as well. Gaius is the perfect example of the ministry gift of “giving” which the Apostle Paul described in Romans 12:8, 13 and 2 Corinthians 9:6-9. Giving in this way is a ministry gift that is necessary as a part of the overall Body of Christ and it is displayed here in John’s third letter.

Now understand something; this does not negate the responsibility of the individual in giving as your heart dictates by the Holy Spirit in your everyday giving. My wife and I are always looking for ways on a daily basis to be able to give what little we do have to help others with a need no matter whether they are Christians or not. You just have to use discernment and spiritual wisdom, for you want God’s love to be conveyed in it and you want the Lord to get the glory.

Now I have heard it preached and taught that if you are not wealthy (or healthy) then you LACK faith in the Lord and that is a sin! Wow! What a stretch to try and make that a “Spiritual Principle,” as I like to call certain things the Lord as set up and you see in the Bible. By this reasoning, those who use their faith on a daily basis to trust the Lord to meet their needs do not qualify in the faith department because they HAVE to rely on God to meet their daily needs. So much for the validity of the Sermon on the Mount. So much for the Scriptures I gave above from the Apostle Paul and especially this one; “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8.

How could I have been so blind all these years?!! Yes, I’m being sarcastic! I have HAD to deal with the consequences of that false teaching in the lives of people who started to doubt their ability to have faith in the Lord! I have had to apply SPIRITUAL healing to those who were cursed with doubt because of the hellish prosperity teaching! I thank God for His never changing Word that tells us emphatically that His Word is given “for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, for every good work!” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

So, God will supply your needs, but He will also supply you health as your soul is also healthy. This does not mean you don’t or won’t get sick or diseased, for that is part of life and it is also a very important part of learning how to rely on God in every aspect of His will and to be thankful in ALL things. Just be careful when hearing people preach or teach on subjects where it is so obvious they are taking things out of the context with which the Holy Spirit inspired it to be written!

John reiterates to his friend that Gaius’ reputation has reached the Apostle for it has become a testimony of his good works. So it is when we do things straight from the heart with the proper motive. We don’t have to “blow our own horn” as it were, for the works themselves will speak for themselves and even more so when those things are done with a pure motive. Gaius’ reputation for his hospitality was evidently well-known.

Then John also assures Him in his greeting that as an Elder, as an Apostle who knew Jesus personally face to face, that his joy was greatest and most complete when those that were his disciples also walked in the path of truth as preached by the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

Let me tell you this just from personal experience, John’s appraisal is very true, emphatic and words cannot express the true depth of the joy one experiences when they see their family or those THEY have discipled in Christ Jesus, walk out on their own and follow after the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus! Too many, oh so many pastors in churches today do NOT know the greatest joy because they are so enamored with keeping their “flock” to themselves, rather than following the pattern of Jesus and His disciples and discipling those and equipping others to go out and follow after the Holy Spirit! It is no wonder the TRUE Church is so small in comparison to all institutionalized religious organizations! The church was NEVER meant to become an enclosed, selfish entity. “Bring people in,” is the cry of most preachers today, NOT “go out into the cities and streets and baptize them in the name of Jesus!”

Can you imagine, that for as big as some of these meg-churches are, if they truly followed the pattern that Jesus and His disciples laid out, rather than the example that Emperor Constantine instituted way back in 325 A.D., just how many of our cities would be Christian havens instead of the liberal, worn-down, rotting and infested, God-rejecting cities that they are today?

One day, and I don’t believe it is far off and in fact I would guarantee that some alive today are going to see the culmination of Christ Jesus’ plan to set up His Throne in Jerusalem after the Anti-Christ and his hordes are finally destroyed and chained up! A thousand year reign of what TRUE leadership, uncorrupted, holy and righteous will definitely be, Paradise on earth! Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Your Bride awaits!

Next post we will begin with 3 John verse 5.

Our REAL Independence Day!

While most of the “United” States is getting ready to celebrate its Independence day with bright patriotic fireworks displays, barbeques and sports (maybe sports?), I am joining in the festivities but for a WHOLE other reason. My REAL or true Independence Day from the world.

Now before you get after me, I want to share with you a Bible story. Yes, it’s meant to make you think and take stock and meditate on God Almighty and His Sovereignty, but unlike the “United” States of America that is spiraling ever downward, there is hope for our future Independence Days, but we as a people have to be willing to listen.

Oh yeah, before I get into the actual Bible story, here’s a little Scripture to commemorate what we are celebrating:

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” – Ephesians 4:1-6 (NKJV).

Notice the theme of Unity throughout these six verses. This is where TRUE unity lies! Now for the promised Bible Story. . . . (Some names have been changed to protect the destroyed and to make us consider).

*”Come, unconquered one, sit in the dust. For your days of glory, pomp, and honor have ended. O daughter, never again will you be the lovely princess (or leader), tender and delicate. Take heavy millstones and grind the corn. Remove your veil and strip off your prestigious garments. Expose yourself to public view where you will be naked AND burdened with shame. I, the Lord, WILL take vengeance against you and will not negotiate further.”

Our Redeemer, whose name is the Lord Almighty, is the Holy One of ALL!

O daughter, sit now in darkness and silence. Never again will you be known at the queen or leader of nations. For I, the Lord, was angry with my own people and allowed them to suffer in your hands. But you showed them no mercy in your persecution. You have forced even the elderly to carry heavy burdens while robbing what was rightfully theirs. You thought, ‘I will reign forever as leader of all!’ You did not care at all about My people, or think about the consequences of your actions.”

“You ARE a pleasure-crazy nation, living at ease and feeling secure, bragging as if you were the greatest in all the world! You say to all who will listen, ‘I’m self-sufficient and not accountable to anyone! I will never be a widow or lose my children.’ Well, those two very things will come upon you in a single moment: widowhood and the loss of your children. Yes, these calamities will come upon you, despite all your witchcraft and magic.”

“You felt so secure in all your wickedness. ‘No one sees me,’ you said. Your ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’ have caused you to turn away and reject Me and claim, ‘I am self-sufficient and not accountable to anyone!’ So disaster will overtake you suddenly, and you won’t be able to charm it away. Calamity WILL fall upon you, and you won’t be able to buy your way out no matter how rich you or your donors are. A catastrophe will arise so fast that you won’t know what hit you.”

“Call out the demon hordes you have worshipped all these years in secret. Ask them to help you strike terror into the hearts of the people once again. You have more than enough advisers, astrologers and stargazers at the ready. Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds in store. Sadly for you, they are as useless as dried grass burning in a fire. They cannot even save themselves from the fury to come! You will get no help from them at all. Their hearth is not a place you will be able to sit for warmth. AND, all your friends, those with whom you have done business with since childhood, some in secret, will slip away and disappear, unable to help even a little.”

Look! The Lord is about to destroy the earth and make it a vast wasteland. See how the people are scattering over the face of the earth. No one is spared, neither priests nor laypeople, servants or masters, maids and mistresses, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, bankers and debtors, for all will be gone! The earth will be completely emptied and looted. The Lord has spoken!

The earth dries up, the crops wither, the skies refuse to rain. The earth suffers for the sins of its people, for they have TWISTED the instructions of God, violated His laws, broken His everlasting covenant and rejected Him! Therefore, a curse consumes the earth and its people.

But my heart is heavy with grief. I am discouraged, for evil STILL prevails, and treachery is everywhere. Therefore, terror and traps and snares will be the lot of the sinful people of earth. Those who flee in terror will fall into a trap, and those who escape the trap will step into a snare.

Are you amazed and incredulous? Do you not believe it? Then go ahead and be blind if you must. You are stupid, but not from wine! You stagger, but not from beer! For the Lord Himself has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has closed the eyes of those false prophets and visionaries that you rely so much upon. All these future events are a sealed book to them. When you give the facts to them to read for themselves, they will say, “We can’t read it because it is sealed.” When you give it to those who cannot discern or read, they will say, “Sorry we don’t know what it says.”

And so the Lord says, “These people SAY they are mine. They honor me with their lips but their hearts are far, far away. AND, their worship of Me worship of me amounts to a farce, for they merely teach human commands and teachings to be memorized! BUT, because of this, I will do wonders among these hypocrites. I will show that their human wisdom is utterly foolish and even the most brilliant and intellectual people lack understanding.”

Destruction is certain for those who try to hide their devious plans from the Lord, who think they are able to keep Him in the dark concerning what they do! “The Lord can’t see us,” you say to yourselves. “He doesn’t know even a little what is going on!” How stupid can you be? He IS the Potter, and he is certainly greater than you for you are only the clay to become the jars He makes! Should the thing that was created say to the One who made it, “He didn’t make us”? Does a jar ever say, “The potter who made me is stupid”?

Soon – and it will not be very long – deaf people will hear words read from a book, and the blind will see through the gloom and the darkness. The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. Those who are poor will rejoice in the Holy One of All. Those who intimidate and harass will be gone as well as all those who have plotted evil against the Lord’s people. Those who make the innocent guilty by their false testimony will also disappear. And those who use trickery and deceit to pervert justice and tell lies to tear down the innocent will be no more!

In that day the heir to David’s throne, will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to Him, for the land where He will live will be a glorious place. Look, a righteous King is coming! And honest princes will rule under Him. He will shelter His people from the storm and the wind. He will refresh them as a river in the desert and as the cool shadow of a large rock in a hot and weary land. Then everyone who can see will be looking for God, and those who can hear will listen to His voice.

Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is My chosen One, and I am pleased with Him. I have put my Spirit upon Him. He will reveal justice to the nations. He will not crush those who are weak or quench the smallest hope. He will bring full justice to all who have been wronged. He will not stop until truth and righteousness prevail throughout the earth.

God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath and life to everyone in all the world. And it is He who says, “I, the Lord, have called You to demonstrate my righteousness. I will guard and support you, for I have given You to my people as the personal confirmation of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide all nations to Me. You will open the eyes of those blinded by the enemy of their souls and free the captives who are in prison, chained to sin. You will release those who sit in dark dungeons.”

“I am the Lord; that is My Name! I will NOT give My glory to anyone else. I will NOT share my praise with carved idols or idols of ANY kind. Everything I have prophesied has come true, and now I prophesy again and what I tell you happens in the future WILL happen! I tell you BEFORE it happens!”

Thus the Prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz wrote down for all to read and be aware of and forewarned. He wrote these words sometime between 770 B.C. to 681 B.C. How true they apply to what is going on in our nation and the world as a whole almost 3000 years later! Any doubts about the validity of God’s unchanging Word or His Character?!!

You liberty, your independence can only be found in the free gift given by God Almighty through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself stated this, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6 (NKJV).

The Apostle Paul confirms our true liberty, freedom, and independence when He made this statement about those who read the Scriptures still blinded; and this statement holds true even these many centuries later:

“But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” – 2 Corinthians 3:14-17 (NKJV).

This nation that was once the United States of America, will one day suffer God’s judgment like every other nation that rejected Him and abandoned His values. His Word is true and unchanging and He Himself does not change. Though He IS longsuffering and patient, He has never stopped being a just God and that “justness” demands that eventually the nation’s sinfulness and wickedness be dealt with.

However, no matter the nation or country you live in, accepting the Kingdom of God, through Christ Jesus into your heart and life and abiding IN Him, guarantees a liberty and independence that has already been fought and won and that can never be taken away from you!

God bless you all this Independence Day! May it be a Spiritual one!

*This Bible story is taken somewhat liberally from the Book of Isaiah with help from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996 edition, (NLT). I have added some adjectives and left out some names to make the point that it can apply to us, in this very age and day we are living. So, though the NLT was used as a foundation, it is NOT word for word in its entirety.

The following chapters were referenced in Isaiah: Chapters 11, 24, 29, 32, and 47.

Only Two Denominations – Charles Spurgeon

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (June 19, 1834 – January 31, 1892) was an English Particular Baptist preacher. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations, among whom he is known as the “Prince of Preachers.” He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day.

This famous quote was taken from a sermon he taught on at the following:
Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit
October 23, 1887
Scripture: Exodus 12:21-27

Do Not Fret, Do Not Despair!

I want to encourage ALL my brothers and Sisters in Christ in these times. I just commented to another dear sister who is concerned about how to pray for what is going on around us and this is in part of what I advised her. I don’t think she will mind me using this in a lesson.

“Sis, I have been seeking God’s wisdom and discernment for as long as I can remember. Pray for the saints, your brothers and sisters in Christ for wisdom, discernment and strength, pray for the lost, always, and pray for those sitting on the fence. As far as the nation is concerned, God will judge, either good or bad according to His Word that never changes. If we are approaching the End times and it looks like that “season” as Jesus foretold, then the U.S. MUST decrease so the 10 country world government of Daniel can increase and allow God’s plan to unfold. Remember, Sis, your KINGDOM, your nation is not of this earth, but a Heavenly Kingdom. We can pray for this nation, but we no longer belong to it. We CAN’T serve two masters. We are either citizens of God’s Kingdom, or citizens of an earthly, temporary kingdom that WILL one day eventually fall as all earthly kingdoms do. Take heart in what our Heavenly Father has in store for us no matter WHAT things look like around us! Love you in Christ, Sis!!”

It is obvious we are definitely in the times that Jesus described in Matthew 24+ and whether we are in it full-blown or the beginning, we can tell by the “season” where we are. In the Old Testament we see the nation of ancient Israel go the way of the leadership. Now we must remember that their leadership was both religious and political at the same time, BUT the nation and the people were considered one, in the Lord’s eyes.

We are Abraham’s adopted sons and daughters and we join others throughout the whole world and so we are NOT identified with the land or any particular nation because once we were spiritually reborn, born-again, we became citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom ruled by God, our Father. We CAN’T serve two nations; we either serve the Heavenly Kingdom or we serve the temporary earthly kingdom which most assuredly at some point in history WILL fall, as ALL nations do sooner or later.

This is why it is so important to read and understand the WHOLE Bible for in it we see God, our Father’s Character and Nature, His Will for mankind as a whole and His plans for mankind’s future. When you look at what His Word has warned those thousands of years ago, we cannot in sincerity deny the validity and TRUTH of His unchanging Word.

There are things on this earth that must transpire for God’s plan to be fulfilled. It looks horrible from a natural aspect and in that sense, the sin and wickedness is terrible. BUT, God will NOT take away people’s ability to choose their direction and path they want to walk for there can be no true LOVE, no Agape without the ability to choose whether you want to walk in that love. We see people’s choices all around us right now. But when you realize what you see God’s unconditional love at work, then you begin to see His plan unfold.

Just like in the Garden of Eden, mankind can listen to the serpent and follow their own desires, or they can listen to what God told them and accept the path that He has given through Jesus Christ and avoid the broad destructive path. None of this is taking our Heavenly Father by surprise. He KNOWS who will choose Him and who will not, but His DESIRE is STILL that none would perish even though He knows that is what some will ultimately choose.

Knowing this, it is our duty to pray for one another, for strength that can only come from Christ and His Holy Spirit, we need to pray for wisdom and discernment, so that we know when to step out in the gifts that we were equipped with to either build up the Church, the Body of Christ or to win souls as the time is right. It HAS to be in God’s timing, otherwise it is for nothing. We NEED to ever continue to pray for the lost for it is by our fervent prayers that God through His Holy Spirit can move upon those He has gifted to spread that Gospel message! AND we must not forget those who have been “lukewarm” and “sitting on the fence” as it were that they would take a step one way or the other, again their choosing.

We should not be SHOCKED by what we see around us. Astounded yes, amazed yes, but shocked? We have been warned this was coming. As far back as I can remember when I was first saved, born-again, I remember preachers teaching on these times. I just didn’t think I would live to see them, but again, God knows and He knows whom He has chosen to go through these times.

God has not left His True Church, the Body of Christ, unprepared, but rather has been preparing them for years with His Word and with His Spirit abiding in each individual member. It is just that now, it is time for that Church to wake up, shake off their slumber and start to seek the Father and start remembering what He has taught us for so long. Even those new in the Lord, have been part of an accelerated training time whether they knew it or not. Look at the parable of the Landowner who paid the same wages to those who worked all day and those who worked a couple of hours. Substitute the “pay” for preparation and you see the Landowner, who you will recall is likened to the Kingdom of God, prepared those early on, but also those who came later showed them the same in preparation. It is a Spiritual principle, one of many you will find in the Bible when you look and meditate on the Word.

We are at the END of the day and now is when our preparation will come into play. You can say that the Gifts that He gives, ministry AND spiritual gifts are the “pay” to the workers. They are His gifts to give to whomever He wishes no matter when they entered the “work force,” as it were.

Now, some time ago the Lord told me He was going to change the direction of my ministry, (my service to Him and others), and at the time I couldn’t imagine how or why. But it was like my eyes were being opened to a whole new aspect of the world I was living in and how the Scriptures applied to it. I can look back those few months ago and see the transition the Lord has led me through, but then I had no clue.

I will tell you this and this is not a FALSE humility either; I cannot imagine why the Lord chose someone who is essentially nothing in the ministerial field to have some of the insights He has given me, but it IS His choice. I have been blessed as He has always done in my ministry to confirm the truth through other well-known and larger ministries so it has increased my faith and confidence even after so many years of doing this.

But I say all that to say this also; there are many well-known and well-established large ministries that still see hope for the U.S. as a nation and that is where I depart. God’s Church within THAT nation will survive, His Church will ALWAYS survive, but the nation? I cannot see a nation, whose leaders still want to push abortion law, gay-rights laws, anti-religious laws and who are engaged in outright lies and deception can be blessed by a God who abhors and cannot abide with or in sin!! It’s His Word, not mine. Unless one half of our population and the majority of the leaders (of ALL political parties) are willing to repent and undo many of these outright sinful laws that reject God’s values, how can a righteous and Holy God bless them AS a nation?

Remember, unlike Israel and the Jewish people, the Church of Jesus Christ is NOT identified with a specific nation for that Church has members in EVERY nation! I know everyone likes to use the prayer of 2 Chronicles 7:14 and I don’t want to debate or argue with those more intelligent than I am but I have to look at that prayer in the context with which the LORD was speaking to Solomon.

“Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place. For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.” – 2 Chronicles 7:12-16.

The Lord is speaking to Solomon about the Temple and the land of Zion, Jerusalem. The Jewish people and the land were God’s chosen. Remember, in Revelation the Lord tells us that when He creates a new Heaven and a new Earth, even then Jerusalem will be the Capital where He sets up His throne on earth!

His Church is no longer identified with any land but rather with the Kingdom of Heaven. His Temple today, resides in the individual hearts and souls of those who belong to His Kingdom. We abide in Him, but in turn, He ABIDES, has set up His Throne, in our hearts, and it will be that way until His End-times plan is fulfilled. Then we will be part of that REAL Kingdom and we will then be one with Him in Glory. You have to read the WHOLE BIBLE and not just bits and pieces.

Today when we pray that prayer, it is NOT the nation or the land that is blessed, but each of us who enjoys His Temple abiding in us, and it is by that blessing that His blessings flow to all those around us, saved and unsaved alike. As long as we, His people, are blessed, those who are surrounding us will also enjoy some of that blessing if we are walking in true Agape.

This is why I say, pray, pray, pray for the lost. Those leaders in this nation who are leading this nation down a path of destruction are truly lost. They are blinded by the God of this world and don’t even know it! We MUST pray for them. But remember, it is still and always will be their choice what they choose. God cannot be a loving God if He FORCES His creation to love Him. There has to be a way to choose and this is why Satan was first loosed upon the world. Mankind has the ability to choose the prideful arrogance of a fallen angel that was also given choice, or He can choose to follow the Creator who only desires a people to love Him in total purity and desire to do so.

My advise to my Brothers and Sisters in the midst of all we see and what is most assuredly to come about:

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” – Psalm 27:13-14.

“Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.” – Psalm 31:23-24.

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6.

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57-58.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”

– Ephesians 6:10.

House of Prayer and Worship

The people were asking, “Just WHO is this man who is stirring everything up in Jerusalem?” Many had heard of Jesus and the miracles He had done, but to many He was still somewhat of a curiosity.

Can you imagine His disciples, following Him as they are entering Jerusalem for the Passover, one of the most Holiest of Jewish celebrations, and they are watching Him and listening to Him. On the journey, they were probably also talking among themselves about the upcoming celebration.

Can you imagine what they must have thought while watching His every move as He surveyed the Temple, His Father’s, our Father’s Temple, known to all to be a house of prayer and worship to God Almighty. Then He started searching around for cord and started feverishly to intertwine it into the corded whip that He intended it to become. His disciples must have wondered what in the world is He making and for what purpose. Wouldn’t you wonder? You’ve been hanging on His every word, excited about the prospects of the upcoming celebration of worship and He becomes silent, focused AND driven to what He has purposed in His mind.

I can imagine that while He is working to construct the simple corded whip that His gaze was wandering around to the different stalls and the exchanges going on and the general hub-bub of what a busy place of commerce might portray. Imagine the birds squawking or cooing, the goats and the sheep bleating loudly, the oxen lowing loudly and joining in the cacophony of sounds that the money changers were engaged in. I can’t imagine that it was muted and still, but rather the sounds of everyone there vying for a spot to do business for the upcoming festivities.

Can you even begin to imagine the thoughts that MUST have been going through the mind of God’s Son at that moment while standing within the Holy Temple? What could His disciples have been thinking of and wondering about while watching what He was doing and constructing? They had to have been asking each other among themselves what He had stopped to do. Wouldn’t you?

They most certainly could tell that His demeanor had changed, His countenance darker than normal and especially in what to them seemed like normal preparation for the upcoming Passover. For this “business” was not new, but had become the custom in preparation for the Passover. But this was the first time that the disciples were preparing to celebrate with their Master, Jesus in Jerusalem. You can imagine, they were all a bit excited about the prospect, but then Jesus is silent and yet evidently upset about something.

Then, they see Him rise or step forward. He might have paused a moment to again take in the surrounding chaos and then with determination started walking towards the tables of the nearest money-changers. With all the commotion, no one but the disciples noticed this man coming forth. Only they noticed the fervor on His countenance and the surety of His footing.

They HAD to have wondered in amazement what had come over Him. Then quicker than they could imagine, He grabbed the edge of one of the tables piled high with coin where the money changers were sitting on the opposite side and with one strong lift up, He turned the tables unto the laps of those men of commerce, coins scattering all over the place, tablets of accounts and such going every which way and they must have been immediately, shocked, stunned and disoriented as to what had just happened.

Then looking up, they saw a man with a corded whip raised above His head and you can only imagine the scramble that took place at that time. They were so confused and disoriented that they barely heard the words coming out of Him as His righteous anger spilled forth in the condemnation of what they had done to His Father’s House of prayer and worship!

After that, He turned His attention to the animals filling every available space of this glorious temple and He started to drive them out. The very merchandise, that was the profit-making enterprise of these merchants was being scattered out beyond the Temple!

I am almost positive that as He drove the animals out through the Temple gates, His anger subsided and the animals were herded out beyond the Temple walls. But, the anger and zeal He felt toward what had become of His Father’s House was too much and I am sure, He turned back to the crowds and the merchants and uttered those famous words we are so familiar with now:

And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.'” – Matthew 21:13.

(Jesus) “saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.'” – Luke 19:46.

And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” – John 2:16.

Jesus referred to what was written in Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7:11.

The thing is, to the consternation of the Jewish religious leaders, it didn’t stop there. Jesus began to teach daily in that very Temple. Of course, the Jewish leaders wanted answers.

So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?” But He was speaking of the temple of His body. Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.” – John 2:18-22.

The disciples also remembered later what was written in the Scriptures in Psalm 69:9 and referenced it when the Apostle John wrote: “Then His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.'” – John 2:17.

The Bible goes on to tell us:

“Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?” – Matthew 21:14-16.

“And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.” – Luke 19:47-48.

Great story. I remember hear it preached when I was in my late teens and referencing Jesus’ “righteous anger.” Today however, almost 50 years later and watching the world and the nation I live in descend into chaos, it has a much different connotation. I see a whole new depth and meaning to this recounted story than I have usually heard preached.

I have also watched for literally decades, church institutions abandon the SPIRIT of the Word of God, the Holy Bible, for interpretations that only justify their modern thinking and actions rather than changing them as people from the inside out. The Word of God does NOT change. I am sounding like a broken record every time I state that. It is not the wording or the translation I am talking about either, it is the SPIRIT behind the words. That is why it is spiritually discerned and it is spiritually alive! The Bible does not change, but it IS supposed to change us; more and more into the people that are in God’s likeness in Character and Nature!

When I look at the church world around me, the institutions of religion, filled with politics and defining their denominations behaviors and doctrinal beliefs, I see buildings that are filled, for the most part, exactly what Jesus stated of the religious leaders of His day, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” – Matthew 23:27-28.

This does NOT describe every institutional church, everywhere in the world, but sadly, the churches this does NOT describe are the exceptions! How is it, that we have God’s written Word and yet, the very thing that Jesus came to condemn and make right, is the very thing that even today, under the age and dispensation of Grace, we have still turned God’s House into?

Whether anyone believes me or not, I stand on the Word of God. When the spiritual becomes institutionalized, it is only a matter of time before it becomes religious and loses all its spirituality and thus its anointing and power! The Apostle Paul told his protégé Timothy that this would exactly come about and it was a direct mirror to what Jesus called the religious leaders of His day, “having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.”

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” – 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Notice that the Apostle Paul is talking about the nature of men in the last days. They shall APPEAR religious. Religion and a religious attitude or nature is not necessarily SPIRITUAL! Believe it or not, true spirituality resides in God Almighty and not in the “supernatural.” Those who ABIDE in Christ and the Father, those who have the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus abiding in them ARE spiritual because they have been spiritually reborn! You do NOT become spiritual by worshipping Buddha or Mohammed or Krishna or any other false deity, ONLY by worshipping and abiding in God, the Father Who IS Spirit!

I know I use this favored Scripture often, but it speaks so much to the Truth of why we are the Spiritual creation that we are in Christ Jesus. “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:23-24.

I’m sorry if this next sentence offends you, but to state the obvious, “the truth shall set you free!” (John 8:32). Religion today, is BIG business.

Religion annually contributes about $1.2 trillion dollars of socio-economic value to the United States economy, according to a 2016 study by the Religious Freedom & Business Foundation. That is equivalent to being the world’s 15th-largest national economy, outpacing nearly 180 other countries and territories. It’s more than the global annual revenues of the world’s top 10 tech companies, including Apple, Amazon and Google. [1]

Now this is just ONE reference I found through Bing. There are literally hundreds!

I’ve taught a lot on it lately, namely, the Body of Christ, the TRUE Church. A Church that is a spiritual entity with Jesus Christ as the Head and the individual member-believers that make up the ministries He has assigned. Parts of His Church are everywhere throughout the world. There is NO one nation that can claim the Church or Bride of Christ.

But as I stated in a recent ministry video I created, there are many institutions that would like to be identified with the True Church of God, unfortunately, they fall into that very category that Paul warned Timothy about. We are seeing the Bible unfold before our very eyes in this day and age.

Those of you who have been following my teachings and my posts for a while, know that I have said more than once something BIG is on the horizon. Well people, in a few months we shall see. I have said that God WILL judge unrighteous nations eventually. Though He is longsuffering and patient, He CANNOT go against His own word. It will be more severe to those nations whose motto is “In God We Trust,” for they are claiming a relationship with the Almighty at the same time they are rejecting Him.

But before He judges the nation, He will put His True Church to the test. We WILL be pressed and squeezed as in a winepress, but what will come out will be pure and undefiled AND it will demonstrate the power and the richness of what was meant to be! Now, do not panic, because this testing is not meant to destroy His children, His chosen, but rather to refine us into what He can use in the coming judgment of nations.

I am not telling you anything that you cannot see in the Word of God for yourselves. We will not know the day nor hour of the Lord’s return, but we WILL know the season as He plainly spoke in parable about what should take place. People, the season is at hand. The evidences, NOT just the signs are all there. You can read them all for yourselves in Matthew 24 onward.

God’s True Church does not have to fear, but we have to be aware. God’s Temple today is abiding in our hearts and souls. Is His Temple within, a house of prayer and worship, or is it a big business venture? Will Jesus come through the clouds when the trumpet sounds and find commerce going on in our hearts, or worship? Only each individual can answer that.

The time is at hand for us to keep looking up and watching the clouds and listening for that Trumpet blast. (Luke 21:28). We do not have to look with fear, but rather with anticipation for that will be a day when the Lord will show forth His glory upon the whole earth!

As the Lord told Pastor Dana Cornerstone from Kentucky in a dream, “Brace yourself, brace yourself, brace yourself,” but at the same time, we do not have to fear. God’s plan is unfolding and we are a part of history like in no other time!!

I for one am exclaiming, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!” Join me in praying for God’s perfect will and plan to unfold! Pray for the true saints of God. Pray for the lost! Amen and AMEN!

To Tell The Truth – What’s My Line?

If any of you can remember the ORIGINAL television game shows by these names then I’m not the only one revealing my age! To Tell the Truth ran from the mid-sixties to seventies and What’s My Line? was kind of the precursor to that show which ran from the fifties until the late sixties. The premise of the first game show was for the panel to guess what the occupation was of the contestant by asking a series of questions. The premise of the following game was to tell who the “true” person was for an occupation out of a couple of others who were impostors. They were both extremely popular AND long-running television game shows.

Here we are in 2020 and even though it might sound like a “pun,” our eyesight isn’t any better when it comes to spotting fakes today. Of course, when you get down to the spiritual “nitty-gritty” why would it be when the devil is probably the most knowledgeable when it comes to the Scriptures aside from our Heavenly Father, Himself.

I am constantly amazed at the things I see written on social media platforms in the name of “Christianity.” It truly reveals to me that when it comes to titles or labels, the enemy of mankind’s souls is an expert at perverting and twisting, over time, words and titles we have seemed to take for granted.

Love for instance. The devil’s had a long run to twist and pervert that concept. Today in the world especially it resembles NOTHING even close to the Character of God Almighty, Himself. It’s all based on feelings and emotions now. “If it feels good, then it is good,” is a long-time saying that has had time to ingrain itself in the modern psyche.

Now, the enemy has done the same with the title, “Christian,” because since the United States is a “Christian” nation, everyone who believes in SOME kind of supreme being is a “Christian.” For proof, just listen to one of the most popular talk-show hosts, Oprah Winfrey speak about the “Christian” experience and there are many, many ways to get to what you might believe is “God!”

Oprah Said There Are Many Ways to God? “There are millions of ways to be a human being, and many paths to what you call God.” “Well I am a Christian who believes that there are certainly many more paths to God other than Christianity.” ~Oprah Winfrey [1]

Believe me, I have been doing this long enough now that when I hear or read some of these statements and beliefs, my stomach feels like it gets twisted into knots and that is no exaggeration!

Now in my research I have found as many people trying to justify her statement in a “spiritual” sense as there is trying to condemn it Scripturally! The truth of the matter is that as far as she has stated in interviews, the Bible is not the ONLY writings that lead us to our “god, gods or goddesses!”

What she says is true in this Biblical sense:

“Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath.” – Isaiah 45:22-23.

“But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: ‘As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.’ So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” – Romans 14:10-12.

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:9-11.

EVERY person ever born and created, past, present and even future, will one day, and seemingly not far off, will stand before Christ Jesus not JUST to be judged, but to acknowledge that in truth He IS the Lord of Lords and King of Kings for all eternity! So in essence, no matter what you do or how you live, you WILL be led to the feet of Jesus at sometime in the future. Of course, this is NOT the context she meant, but unknowingly, she DID proclaim the truth in that regard!

Now before you think that I am attacking America’s sweetheart unmercifully, let me just say, she is the most pronounced in her statements and the most easily recognizable as a “non-religious” source, but I can tell you, it doesn’t take a lot of research to find those who call themselves “ministers” who have come out with very similar statements, and let me tell you, more so within the last couple of years. It seems that those who are rising up out of the shadows are becoming more and more blatant as the world goes deeper and deeper into sin.

This should NOT surprise anyone who spends time in their Bibles! It IS shocking still, but it should NOT be surprising for even Jesus stated emphatically and explicitly what was to happen just before His coming in Matthew 24. I will trust you to reread the whole chapter, but let me remind you of this part:

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” – Matthew 24:36-39.

And also in Luke, (see all of chapter 17 for a comparison) a little more exposition:

“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.” – Luke 17:26-30.

Now understand one thing here; Jesus didn’t go into extreme detail about the days of Noah or even the days of Lot and his family. The people whom He was sharing this with KNEW from their Scriptures, (our Old Testament writings) just how bad things were back then.

I was talking to my two adult sons just last night and we were talking about the situations going on all around us, the corruption, violence, outright murder of innocence, both children and adults, the political state of affairs and the blatant HATE towards a duly elected leader and those who voted for him, because he thwarted the advancement of their agendas, at least for a season.

Now we live in a small agricultural community and it just hasn’t hit us as it has in the big cities, but I am not blind and as I was telling my boys, I CAN’T imagine the days of Noah or of Lot with Sodom and Gomorrah, being worse than it is today! I know with Noah, he had 120 years to prepare the Ark, but I can actually look back in history to just after I was born in 1952 and I can see in the late fifties and early sixties, the seeds of rebellion against established institutions and mores taking root back there. We have had almost 70 years for this rebellion to transpire with starts and stops along the way that we thought then was bad. But even then, so much was hidden in the shadows whereas now, the blatant wickedness is showing itself with apparent arrogance!

Yet I can remember back, sitting in a small church, fascinated by all the guest preachers who prophesied of the End Times and how terrible they would be. I had NO idea that I would actually live to see what we are witnessing in human nature around the whole world. AND, that doesn’t even touch on the situation in nature with the earth itself groaning as if ready to give birth!

Jesus told us, He WARNED us, that we would not know the day nor the hour because even He doesn’t know, but only our Heavenly Father. But He DID tells us, that we WOULD know the season because of the signs. Even the Apostle Peter gave a sign of the very end and I actually KNOW people who have come out and stated this almost word for word!!

“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” – 2 Peter 3:1-4. (Bold/Italicized Emphasis mine).

Notice that Peter starts out by saying, “be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us.” I have been back in the Old Testament extensively and I am convinced it is because of what is going on around us, that I see and perceive its writings in a whole new light. It isn’t that the truth wasn’t there all along, but now, it is as if events in our modern age, is mirroring the times of ancient Israel. Why wouldn’t they, either? For as surely as God’s Character and Nature doesn’t change and His Word surely doesn’t change, neither it seems, does man’s unregenerate human nature. It takes the Holy Spirit for man’s nature to undergo a spiritual change.

Okay, what does this have to do with the title? Well, the following are Scriptures that are used everyday in preaching and teaching on social media. Are you familiar with them, yourselves? Do you know what they mean? I mean in spiritual truth. They are all legitimate Scriptures. There is a definite pattern here. Do they fit in context? It is for yourselves to know and realize and this is not a trick “test,” by any means. But it does take looking at the Word of God with spiritual discernment.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7.

“And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” – Matthew 21:22.

“For this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” – Luke 4:6-7.

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, keep My commandments.” – John 14:14-15.

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” – John 15:7.

It is this very simple little test that makes it so necessary for the True Church of God, the Body of Christ, to KNOW and not just to believe in “a” God. The Word of God was given to let us know Who our Heavenly Father is, His Character and Nature and how through Christ Jesus we have a chance, we have a CHOICE to have a renewed spiritual relationship with Him based on Agape (unconditional love) that was once lost due to sin. That is what TRUE Salvation and Redemption is; an eternal relationship with God Almighty, our Creator, our Heavenly Father!

But remember, we CAN’T KNOW Him, if we just take everyone else’s word for who He is. We are responsible for our own relationship with Him and I am telling all my loved ones who read this, it is even more important in the times and days we are right now living in.

All That Is Required

2 John, Verse 7-13

2 John, 7-9, “For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.”

2 John, 10-11, “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.”

2 John, 12-13, “Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.”

As we have seen from John’s writings within his first letter or Epistle, there were many false teachers in his day and he continues with that very theme of warning and being aware. The Gnostics believed that all matter is evil and only the spirit is good and so they reasoned that Jesus could not have been both God and man. They believed that the spirit of Christ came upon the man for just a short time and thus deny the deity of Jesus, Himself.

The beloved Apostle is very adamant against this teaching and sadly, and with the proliferation of social media sites, you can still see there are remnants of this teaching even in this day and age. This proves the prophetic word of the Bible and the fact that human nature and reasoning, apart from the Holy Spirit does NOT change no matter how much time passes!

It was only a couple of months ago, I ran across a man who joined my Facebook group and was trying to spread the very doctrine that Jesus is the Son of God, but is NOT equal with/or God. Of course since he had his mind made us, I had to block him. We as shepherds and teachers cannot afford to allow those young in the Lord, those just learning of His Glorious Nature to succumb to this false teaching when it is in our power to teach the truth! I may not be on par with a lot of well-known and skilled Pastors, but in this instance, I can utterly understand how the Beloved Apostle must have felt when facing this destructive and vile teaching. There are too many Scriptures that PROVE beyond doubt, the deity of Jesus Christ! Since God Almighty, our Heavenly Father is a Spirit, it is ONLY through Jesus Christ that we can know Him as He is! There is a reason why the Word of God tells us we were made in His likeness and carries that theme throughout the entire Counsel of the Word.

These false teachers are so extremely dangerous because they distort the truth and undermine the foundations of a Christian’s faith. Just like their father, the devil, they know Scripture, but they twist it and pervert it to make it fit their theories rather than making their theories line up with Scripture. For as bad as it must have been those 60 years approximately after Jesus’ Resurrection, you can understand how much more the true child of God needs to be discerning and aware today, and the ONLY source of truth is the Word of God, studied in proper context, with a spiritual heart. Remember, the Scriptures themselves state, “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” – 1 Corinthians 2:13-14.

If you don’t remember anything else, remember the temptations of Jesus in the wilderness where the devil himself tried to use the Word of God against Jesus, but twisted and perverted its meaning. Jesus knew who He was dealing with and since we have His Spirit abiding within us, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be aware as well.

If I can interject here; false teachers are so insidious, because they tend to cater to our carnal desires and wishes in such a way as to make it seem it is actually what God, our Heavenly Father wants for us. If anything is taught that is evenly slightly contrary to following after God’s perfect will or plan for His children, discard it as false. Remember, Christ Jesus came to SHOW us and to reinstate a relationship with our Heavenly Father. Salvation is a product of that, but it is the RELATIONSHIP with God that is the key. When we accept Christ’s gift, His sacrifice, we are telling Him in essence that we understand the sacrifice that He and the Father made AND we are willing to surrender our natural and failed wills for His perfect will. That puts our perspective, spiritually, in a whole new light and arena of thought. We start to think about and desire KINGDOM (of God) thoughts and desires. That is the true evidence of being spiritually reborn. We no longer put priority on what we want in the natural, but rather on what God wants in the spiritual realm for eternity.

This is also what the Apostle is referring too when he tells the readers to look to themselves that they do not lose all they have worked for. Falling into even a little false teaching is like the parable of the yeast and the loaves. A little yeast (false teaching) can spoil and ruin the whole act of service because that false teaching is a driving force and wedge to walking in truth. As a side note here, when John is speaking about full rewards, he IS not referring to your Salvation or Redemption but the rewards which will be tried by fire for loyal service to the Lord and His followers. Walking in false teaching is not just destructive to those who are listening to these perverted truths, but can also rob them of eternal rewards which our Father is willing and desirous to give to His children.

With John’s next sentence he sums up the truth of such falsehoods. If a false teacher, especially, transgresses or crosses the line, as it were, first, they are NOT abiding in Christ or in the doctrine, the teachings of Christ Jesus and thus, if they do not have Christ, they do not have God. John goes on to further state, as if to put an exclamation to the statement, that if you DO abide in the doctrine of Christ, then you have the Son AND the Father. As we stated in previous lessons, you cannot separate the two. Jesus stated emphatically, “I and the Father are One!” (John 10:30). In these two verses, the Beloved Apostle just dismantled the false gnostic teachings of many of the false teachers! Remember again what Jesus also stated in the Gospel of John, 14:6, “No one comes to the Father except through me!”

Now John continues on with our attitude and actions that we should have toward false teachers. Many today will say if you act this way you are not being loving or demonstrating the love of Christ, and yet, so dangerous is the heresy and false teaching that it cannot be tolerated.

When I was younger and had learned quite a bit from the Bible, (and I was feeling my oats, so to speak) I used to get a lot of Jehovah’s Witnesses knock on my door, and I used to invite them in. My motive wasn’t at the time, to give them hospitality but to hear what they had to say and “practice” what I had learned from the Bible on them. Of course, they wouldn’t agree to my King James Bible and so I never did get anywhere with them EXCEPT to have them mark my address! I did however get a couple of their booklets and I did get a Watchtower “Bible,” their so-called translation. Oh believe me, it opened my eyes, but since I also studied my Bible with a Strongs Concordance so I could check on the original words, it was a big surprise. BUT, the other surprise that I did not anticipate was that within their “bible” is the steps to Salvation in Jesus Christ!

The next time a couple of them came around, I invited them in and took out my Watchtower “Bible,” which at first impressed them, I might add, but then started asking them about Salvation in Jesus. Yes, it didn’t take them long to recognize they were set up, as it were. I will tell you that I was never able to bring any of them around to the truth and so I truly understood why John, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit told us, in no uncertain terms, that we are NOT to demonstrate hospitality or encourage them in anyway. Today, if they come to my door, I let them know I am a fundamental, full-gospel preacher, and if they are willing to truly “study” the Word, they could come in. To no one’s surprise, I have never had one accept that invitation. Usually when I do that, my wife just looks at me and rolls her eyes. But the Beloved Apostle is right, you can not give way, even a little bit, to something that is so destructive with such ETERNAL consequences.

My advice to those that I have taught in the past and all along, and due largely in part to my experiences with cult religions, is do not waste your time UNLESS, and I have yet to see this, unless someone is truly asking serious questions and is looking for real answers. I as said, I have yet to experience this, for most are coming to your door to try and change you. They are looking for those who are hungry for truth but unaware of the SOURCE of Truth. They are indeed like what the Apostle Peter describes in his letter; “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8.

The last two verses the Apostle let’s the reader know he has much more to say but would like to do it face to face and in his closing verse, it leads me even further to believe that he is writing to a church body rather than just an individual. Whether it is an individual or a group, the real strength of his letter is in the reiteration of the common themes with which he not only writes of in his Gospel, but predominately what he is trying to get across to the church of the day in which he was writing in his first Epistle.

In my mind, the importance of this particular letter is the fact that it sums up the 1st Epistle of John so perfectly. This is one of the reasons I love his writing so. You can see the fatherly influence in his writings, the reason behind the title given to him, “Beloved Apostle.” His writings reflect, at least in my mind, the Character and Nature of Christ Jesus and it is demonstrated in his character as well, that comes through so vividly in his writings.

Next we will begin with 3 John Introduction and verse 1.

God’s Holding Patterns

No, I haven’t been hiding, I’ve been doing a LOT of praying lately as many of you have been and have been just waiting on God. This is something His Spirit has spoken to my heart and it’s not always easy, especially when you want to do, do, do!

But this morning I remembered this article from years ago in an email and internet circulation and it was something I had saved and archived. This is what has been on my mind. This was back in the 90s but I guess the one thing you can add to the list below, is the situation in the world and the nation. It’s not always just very personal things that cause us to pause, but the condition in the world and the unfolding of Bible prophecy in front of our very eyes!

Enjoy, and meditate on these words of wisdom from the Holy Spirit:

God’s Holding Patterns

Many times God will allow a painful situation or a painful circumstance in our life to seem to “swallow us up.” Some seasons in our spiritual growth are like holding patterns. We can’t seem to move to the left or the right. All we can do is sit, like Jonah in the belly of that great fish, so God can have our undivided attention and speak to us. God put Jonah in a holding pattern because He needed to speak to his heart. Jonah was at the mercy of the fish; he couldn’t go anywhere, and he was all alone in that trial.

For Jonah there were no friends to call, no colleagues to drop by, no books to read, no food to eat, no interference’s, and no interruptions. He had plenty of time to sit, think, meditate, and pray. When we are deep in the midst of a difficult situation, with nowhere to turn or to run, that is when God can and often does talk to us. When He has our undivided attention, He can show us things about ourselves that we might not otherwise have seen. Then when He has our attention, He can use that situation to place us where He wants us to be.

A Few Of God’s Holding Patterns:

1. When you are sick in your physical body and you have prayed, but God has not healed you yet, you are in a holding pattern.

2. When you are having problems with your children and you have put them on the altar, but God has not delivered them yet, you are in a holding pattern.

3. When you have been praying for the salvation of a loved one and they have not been saved yet, you are in a holding pattern.

4. When you are in a broken relationship and you have given it over to God, but it has not been restored yet, you are in a holding pattern.

5. When the doors slam shut before you can walk through them, you are in a holding pattern.

When we are deep in the belly of a difficult situation, there are usually no interruptions. God has our undivided attention. All we can do is sit, think, meditate, and pray. We cannot run from God because there are no mountains that are high enough, no valleys low enough, rivers wide enough, rooms that are dark enough, or places that are hidden enough from His love for us.

We must remember to praise Him while we’re waiting and remember three things:

1. The holding pattern has a purpose based in God’s will for us.

2. The holding pattern is made up of a perfect God ordained plan.

3. The holding pattern is part of God’s sovereign process for our development.

When we recognize we are in a holding pattern, we must be just like the airline pilots who recognize this as part of the flight, part of what is necessary to get where we need to go. We need to stop struggling and start listening for instructions, keep on praying, and trusting in God, our flight controller. He’ll keep us right where we need to be until it is time to move on. Then we will be able to hear Him clearly say, “I love you and have only the best in store for you!”

God Is Testing Your Ride

WOW, what a weird title!! Yeah, I know! When I was thinking of this message, this title came to me and I questioned the Lord, more than once. For one, what does it mean? I had to think about it, now I’ll let you think about it for a bit.

The last couple of weeks, my wife and I have been talking, sharing and praying to the Lord above for understanding and wisdom in the face of these current situations that have beset the Nation and even the world.

Those who have been following my teaching and writing have noticed for months now what started out as obvious and blatant corruption in our nation’s political arena has caused my ministry to start sounding the “horn” or trumpet that judgement is coming to our nation. I have read over and over again the various prophet’s writings in the Old Testament and have had insights that I have never had before when reading them in the past. It is as if the Holy Spirit has awakened their voices for a time such as ours!

I mentioned I’ve been praying and seeking understanding because I don’t just write something because it seems good to do. God, by His Spirit has called me to speak His Word and for many years, though I knew my calling, I just “dabbled” in it. It took me a while back then to realize the seriousness of this calling but I finally started “listening” intently to the prompting and teaching of the Holy Spirit. Maybe it was because so many of my peers back then called what I was doing a “hobby” ministry, not necessarily the real thing. Maybe that stuck for a while. At least until the Holy Spirit got hold of me and started showing me the need AND the results! But this isn’t really an exposé on my ministry, it is an introduction into what the Lord has been speaking to myself, my wife and many others in ministries far more widespread than my little service.

As I stated, I truly do take what I write seriously when it comes to the Body of Christ and my role in it as teacher and preacher. One day, my Lord and Redeemer is going to ask me why I said or wrote what I did and I will have to give an account, just as we ALL will!

I’ve been asking God where all these circumstances are leading, well aware that He IS sovereign and definitely in control. I have sensed that for some time now, our nation in particular, but some other western nations as well, are ripe for spiritual judgement for all the unrepentant sinfulness that have been allowed to become laws of their land.

Today, I received confirmation of what I have come to believe God is doing or getting ready to do in our nation in particular, but most likely in other nations as well. God never does things in isolation, but when it comes to His children especially, we are ALL involved in His plans.

Now I still believe God is going to judge our nation for its blatant wickedness. Whether it rises again to the great nation that it once was, only God Himself knows, but I do know this; our nation must decrease in the world for the world powers to rise that will lead to the time of the antichrist. BUT – that could be part of God’s plan in judging our nation or it may not be, in that regard I have no specific insight. What I DO know, is that God, Who is unchanging and just and ever true to His Word, will not, can not, allow a nation as ours, with a motto of “In God We Trust” and “One Nation Under God,” to stand without judgement for its unrepentant wickedness.

However, BEFORE God judges a nation, He always judges or TESTS His own people, His children, His CHURCH! I do NOT believe that all that has happened over the last several months, leading up to the massive civil unrest we are immersed in today is a result of God judging our nation. I believe God is allowing the wickedness and corruption to proceed AT THIS TIME, for one specific reason, to awaken His Church!

The Lord spoke to my heart about the refiner’s fire and it has always been applied in the Scriptures to His people, not the world. Who is going to judge the nations? It is God Almighty, but how does He often do things in these situations? You have to go back to His Holy written Word; He uses His surrendered children. Before we are in a place to be able to SPEAK God’s Word with power and authority to the world, we have to be refined, pure and simple! God does NOT change the way He does things and that is why we HAVE His Holy Word written for posterity!

Now one thing I have learned about writing for a website or a blog, (though I often ignore the point) is that most people do not like a lot of Scripture verses written out. However, this lesson demands that I do add a few Scriptures for it is the Scriptures and not my words, that prove to you what I am trying to say. The following verses refer to God’s refining process concerning His chosen people, His children, and today His Church, the Bride of Christ:

“For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs. You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.” – Psalm 66:10-12.

“For My name’s sake I will defer My anger, And for My praise I will restrain it from you, So that I do not cut you off. Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.” – Isaiah 48:9-11.

“And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.” – Daniel 12:9-10.

“And it shall come to pass in all the land,” Says the LORD, “That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die, But one -third shall be left in it: I will bring the one-third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; And each one will say, ‘The LORD is my God.'” – Zechariah 13:8-9.

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love.” – 1 Peter 1:6-8a.

“Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ –and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked – I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.” – Revelation 3:17-19.

I share this with you to consider and pray about. There are a lot today who CLAIM to be “Christians” and I have heard other preachers give them the term, “liberal or progressive Christians,” or “lazy Christians” etc., and I know they do that not to judge, but I will put forward this thought in closing; the title or label, Christian, has lost all meaning of what it truly is to be a Christian EXCEPT in the lives and hearts of those who are truly following after the example of Christ Jesus. It is not a term we take because we are church-goers or believe in the commandments of God, or believe in an all-supreme spiritual being. It is a term that is endearing to us because it means we are disciples, striving to be examples of Jesus, the Anointed One, the Christ, who came to not only save us, but to redeem us UNTO the Father above! He ABIDES in us and we ABIDE in Him and we STRIVE to maintain that relationship.

If you are one that believes that this is what TRUE Christianity is, then prepare for refining for an amazing and historical time in our lives, for it means that the Father is looking for those who will be obedient to His Word and to His will and plans for the future which is upon us. There needs to be no fear in this refining fire, for those of us who have been praying that God be glorified in all we do, He is preparing us for that purposed glory. It is those who are “liberal and progressive Christians” and “lazy Christians,” etc., that will need to be worried, for either the heart will become malleable and repentant toward Christ Jesus, or they will be counted in the soon coming judgement of the world’s nations.

So, are you walking in the Spirit and in God’s Truth, or are you just along for the ride? This is what is going to separate those who our Heavenly Father can use and those who choose to remain a spectator to all that is happening around us. We are living in a time when the Bible in all its truth is unfolding directly in front of our lives. Do we see it for what it is, or do we remain blind to God’s unfolding plans?

This is something you can, rather, it is something you MUST pray about and seek God’s understanding and truth for your individual selves. We must continue to pray for one another, pray for increased spiritual wisdom and above all, TRUST God in all that we see around us, for He is NOT surprised by what is happening throughout the world! Pray for our leaders!!

Sinners in God’s Hands – An Excerpt – Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan Edwards (October 5, 1703 – March 22, 1758) was a North American revivalist preacher, philosopher, and Congregationalist Protestant theologian. Edwards is widely regarded as one of the America’s most important and original philosophical theologians. Edwards’ theological work is broad in scope, but he was rooted in Reformed theology, the metaphysics of theological determinism, and the Puritan heritage. Recent studies have emphasized how thoroughly Edwards grounded his life’s work on conceptions of beauty, harmony, and ethical fittingness, and how central The Enlightenment was to his mindset. Edwards played a critical role in shaping the First Great Awakening, and oversaw some of the first revivals in 1733–35 at his church in Northampton, Massachusetts. His theological work gave rise to a distinct school of theology known as the New England theology.

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, (An Excerpt)

A Sermon Preached at Enfield, July 8th, 1741 – At a Time of Great Awakenings, and Attended with Remarkable Impressions on many of the Hearers.

To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left. – Deuteronomy 32:35-36. (KJV)

The wrath of God is like great waters that are dammed for the present; they increase more and more, and rise higher and higher, till an outlet is given; and the longer the stream is stopped, the more rapid and mighty is its course, when once it is let loose. It is true, that judgment against your evil works has not been executed hitherto; the floods of God’s vengeance have been withheld; but your guilt in the mean time is constantly increasing, and you are every day treasuring up more wrath; the waters are constantly rising, and waxing more and more mighty; and there is nothing but the mere pleasure of God, that holds the waters back, that are unwilling to be stopped, and press hard to go forward. If God should only withdraw his hand from the flood-gate, it would immediately fly open, and the fiery floods of the fierceness and wrath of God, would rush forth with inconceivable fury, and would come upon you with omnipotent power; and if your strength were ten thousand times greater than it is, yea, ten thousand times greater than the strength of the stoutest, sturdiest devil in hell, it would be nothing to withstand or endure it.

The bow of God’s wrath is bent, and the arrow made ready on the string, and justice bends the arrow at your heart, and strains the bow, and it is nothing but the mere pleasure of God, and that of an angry God, without any promise or obligation at all, that keeps the arrow one moment from being made drunk with your blood. Thus all you that never passed under a great change of heart, by the mighty power of the Spirit of God upon your souls; all you that were never born again, and made new creatures, and raised from being dead in sin, to a state of new, and before altogether unexperienced light and life, are in the hands of an angry God. However you may have reformed your life in many things, and may have had religious affections, and may keep up a form of religion in your families and closets, and in the house of God, it is nothing but his mere pleasure that keeps you from being this moment swallowed up in everlasting destruction. However unconvinced you may now be of the truth of what you hear, by and by you will be fully convinced of it. Those that are gone from being in the like circumstances with you, see that it was so with them; for destruction came suddenly upon most of them; when they expected nothing of it, and while they were saying, Peace and safety: now they see, that those things on which they depended for peace and safety, were nothing but thin air and empty shadows.

Wrath – Real

anecdotal stories
Lamentations 1:1, “How lonely sits the city That was full of people! She has become like a widow Who was once great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces Has become a forced laborer!”

Ephesians 2:1-3, “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.”

A Real Threat

A.B. Earle, a nineteenth-century evangelist, insisted on preaching the judgment of God against sinners. He did so, he said, because people have to see themselves as lost before they seek salvation. They won’t escape from the wrath to come until they believe it exists.

Two hurdles must be overcome in convincing people that God is angry with unrepentant sinners. One, the very idea that God has communicated with humanity is unacceptable in “sophisticated” company. They feel that we are nobodies who came from nothing; the little whimper left from the Big Bang. How could nobodies need to repent? Two, human pride resents being called sinful. In this regard, the apostles had an easier task, as C.S. Lewis said. They preached to a people aware of their sins, while we preach to a people adamant in their self-righteousness.

2 John, Verse 4-6

2 John 1:4-6, “I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another. This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.”

Continuing on in his letter, the Apostle expresses his delight and joy that SOME of the “lady’s” children are walking in truth. Again, I have to hypothesize that he is addressing a church rather than an actual lady. Even today, we see in our brick and mortar churches there are those who are obviously attending as part of some traditional ritual due to believing it is what is “expected.” Then there are those who are there out of genuine love for the Lord AND for their brothers in sisters, and this is one of their ways of being able to demonstrate active love towards one another.

Here is another reason I believe this is to a/the church rather than a personal lady. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Who KNOWS this is going to be part of the Holy Canon, it stands to reason that it would be allegorically addressed to the ELECT lady which is a designation for the Bride of Christ Jesus. Also, the Beloved Apostle closes the letter with the thought that he will share more face to face rather than writing down anything more, which would stand to reason that he would like to address a church and what he is pleased with on a personal level, that “our joy may be full.” He is including himself as a part of this joy that is to be shared. Since he has shared so much in his first Epistle/letter, this stands more of a reminder and thus he desires to be with them to share personal observations or insights, as would benefit a church which is attempting to continue to “walk in truth.”

Just something to think about when you are reading this short letter. This is why studying the Word produces such treasures in thought over just reading the Word. It gives you a greater insight into the mind of the Lord, through the writer, and let’s you understand that even though written ages ago, it is still very much relevant for today!

The Beloved Apostle considers himself to be an Elder, as we established earlier, this would be more appropriate for a group of people rather than just an individual, but it also lets us into the mind of the Lord in the sense that we are members of His True Church, the Bride of Christ Jesus. The Lord is OUR Elder in the same sense as the Apostle is writing, but just in a greater sense. He rejoices when He sees us continuing to walk in the same truth that He established through His Son, Jesus Christ, as the Holy Word reminds us. We ARE His children and thus it is only reasonable that us following His commandments would result in His joy as well!

Then John writes something interesting, at least I found it interesting; in the King James version, it says “I beseech thee,” and in the New King James version it says “I plead with you,” and both of these versions give the intent or thought of “intreating, to urge” or a strong desire to speak. That’s pretty intense speech when you consider it. So what is it that he strongly desires to relay? He writes something that is a similar repeat of 1 John 2:7, “not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.”

This is a common theme, not just of this Apostle’s writing, but of the Bible as a whole; we are to love one another. The fact that John is writing that he is urging, intreating, beseeching or pleading to remind them, is an indication that just maybe there is a little bit of problem when demonstrating love towards one another.

As I have written many, many times in the past, true Love, Agape, is active, it is an action. God Himself is Love, but He demonstrates that by what He has done for His creation and His children. So that is the example for us. It is not just a matter of us saying or stating, “I love you,” but more so than saying it, our actions truly demonstrate it. That old cliché that “actions speak louder than words,” couldn’t apply more than to the situation of our loving one another.

In these three verses we catch a glimpse of a couple of interesting things concerning the Beloved Apostle, first, we see his joy, exemplified by what he writes concerning those walking in the truth, and second, we see his instruction or charge, to continue to WALK in love, a reminder that they already know to do it, but a charge to continue in it.

Anyone who has walked with the Lord for a significant amount of time, can recognize that the way John expresses himself to those he loves is the same way the Lord expresses Himself to us His children. He is quick to remind us of His pleasure and joy when we walk in faith and follow His commandments, yet He is not slow in reminding us to continue to walk in what we know to be true. Like the loving Father that He is, He gives us all the necessary means to not just be obedient children, but successful children in our example of His Son, Christ Jesus and as co-heirs to Christ Jesus!

A thought in closing this section, we cannot truly love, Agape, unconditional, divine love, unless we are walking IN obedience to the Lord’s commandments, which we have abiding in our hearts, and to the Truth that God Almighty has established.

Next we will begin with 2 John verse 7.

Friendship

My dear Sister in Christ, Inspirational Poet and Photographer, Wendy L Macdonald, allowed me to “experiment” with one of her inspirational poems and some of her still photographs and I was able to put a video slideshow together highlighting her poem. It is the first time for trying to use words in such a way in a video slideshow and I have some more learning to do, but she enjoyed it and allowed it to be posted. I hope you will receive a blessing from just another means of getting the Christian message across. There are links at the bottom of the video so you can visit her website and her Facebook page if you haven’t friended her yet. God Bless and enjoy. 👍😇💗✝️

Here is the poem that inspired this:

Friendship

The joyful flames of friendship
Ignite the incense of grace
That we may walk with counsel
In everything we face
~
The pleasant fragrance of friendship
Perfumes the most painful of days
That we may walk with comfort
No matter the burdens we face.

~ wlm

A good friend may not be able to lift our burden, but she helps us face it bravely.

The Lord Is My Rock and My Deliverer!

THE LORD IS MY ROCK AND MY DELIVERER!

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” – Psalm 18:2-3.

“In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me. For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me.” – Psalm 31:1-3.

“I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.” – Psalm 40:1-2.

Rebuild The Temple

Before this COVID-19 flu season started, the Lord had been speaking to me about my ministry changing as far as the direction of my teaching, at least to a degree. At the time, I wasn’t sure what He meant, but I was open to His Spirit leading me as I have tried to do all along. In truth, I did find myself praying even more than normally and I have been a bit more impatient with distractions that keep me from even thinking or meditating on the Lord.

I was inspired to get back into the Old Testament which in all honesty I hadn’t done regularly for almost two years. Oh, I would use the occasional Scripture reference needed to make a point and such, but it had been a while since reading and truly looking into the Old Testament Word. Then, that is when I felt inspired to go to the prophets, the writings of the major and the minor prophets. Let me tell you, my eyes had not seen so clearly when reading them before as they were now. It was almost as if they were mirroring the circumstances and situations going on today in our nation.

Politics aside, I was seeing how much God truly hates sin, corruption and wickedness. Listen, God IS love! There is no denying His Nature and Character, but I do not use the term “He hates sin,” lightly at all. He abhors sin and He cannot, because of His Holy and Pure Nature, be in the presence of sin.

So God opened my spiritual eyes to His unchanging Character and Word in the light of much of the governmental corruption and blatant wickedness we see and then the COVID-19 panic and fear started and right from the beginning, something did not seem right. The timing, the statistics, the confusion, fear and panic and the bowing down to these liberal leaders to follow every little thing they said.

So I continued on my sharing of what the Prophets of old had been writing, not just to the children of ancient Israel, but to any nation that rejected God and chose to live in wickedness. It was like I had all the material handed to me and every time I picked up my Bible, there was something that was speaking to me about our nation and the world as a whole. With a change of a few names and places, it was like looking into a mirror and seeing the image in the Bible reflected back. Now you have to understand, I have known that as much as God’s Nature and Word does not change, sadly, neither does human nature, left unchecked. It is only by the Blood of Jesus Christ and the abiding of His Holy Spirit within a person that human nature CAN be subjected to the spirit of that person.

So I have been sharing a lot of warnings and words of judgement if we AS a nation do not change. As I have stated before, God now works on the hearts of individuals and counts righteousness and unrighteousness individually because of the dispensation of Grace we live in. BUT – He STILL will judge nations for their wickedness, evil and blatant corruption in the face of His warnings. His modern-day prophets STILL speak His Word and more so now that we have them written for posterity!

Which leads me to some GOOD messages from the Lord, especially concerning His children. As I was reading the Book of Haggai, it dawned on me that this wasn’t so much a message to God’s people of warning, though some is implied, as it is messages of hope and renewal and regeneration. The Holy Spirit led me to think about how this applies to us, His children today, since it is not an earthly Temple we worship in.

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” – 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. (NKJV)

“. . . that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, . . .” – Ephesians 3:16-17. (NKJV)

Further more:

“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the LORD, Or what is the place of My rest? Has My hand not made all these things?'” – Acts 7:48-50. (NKJV)

“For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” – 2 Corinthians 5:1. (NKJV)

We KNOW from so many confirming Scriptures that God’s Spirit dwells in and abides in us through the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus. Our “hearts” are His Temple now and when the veil of the old Temple was rent in two and thus, entrance was made available into the Holy of Holies, it was a sign that the old ways were no longer relevant but that with Christ Jesus’ death a newness of spirit had begun.

However, in this modern age we are living with all of the distractions of life and that fact that our Heavenly Father DOES allow His Spirit to abide within, some of us have neglected the spiritual Temple and this is what the message of Haggai addresses. Let’s not fall into the trap of many that believe the Old Testament has no bearing on the lives of today, for that would be a great disservice to your brothers and sisters as well as to yourselves.

Haggai 1:

2 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: The people are saying, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house – the Temple.’”

3 So the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? 5 This is what the Lord Almighty says: Consider how things are going for you! 6 You have planted much but harvested little. You have food to eat, but not enough to fill you up. You have wine to drink, but not enough to satisfy your thirst. You have clothing to wear, but not enough to keep you warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!”

7 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: Consider how things are going you! 8 Now go up into the hills, bring down timber, and rebuild my house. Then I will take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord. 9 You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the Lord Almighty, while you are all busy building your own fine houses. 10 That is why the heavens have withheld the dew and the earth has withheld its crops. 11 I have called for a drought on your fields and hills – a drought to wither the grain and grapes and olive trees and all your other crops, a drought to starve you and your cattle and to ruin everything you have worked so hard to get.”

12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of God’s people obeyed the message from the Lord their God. It had been delivered by the prophet Haggai, whom the Lord their God had sent, and the people worshipped the Lord in earnest. 13 Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave the people this message from the Lord: “I am with you, says the Lord!” 14 So the Lord sparked the enthusiasm of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of God’s people. They came and began their work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God. (NLT)

As I stated above, it’s easy to get distracted with all the things this life brings a person’s way. But when we have actually surrendered to God through Christ Jesus and His gift of Salvation, being spiritually reborn, having the bondage of the carnal nature subservient, then we have to make the determination to get our priorities right before God. Our Heavenly Father wants us to build up His Kingdom, not our own. This doesn’t mean we have to always be going out and gathering others to His Kingdom though that is a very important part, but we have to make sure that we ourselves are right for the Kingdom living that He has promised us with our renewed spiritual insights.

This is why it is so important to encourage one another. Encouragement breeds enthusiasm, just as in the time of Haggai’s message. Paul, the Apostle put it this way in his writings, “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11-14. (NKJV) What the Apostle is stating simply, is, encourage one another and continue in it.

God is always faithful in His Word. He is also very longsuffering and patient, often beyond what we can comprehend and understand. When He warns people and nations, we need to heed those warnings for history shows us that He DOES follow through with His Word. The same holds true with His promises. Again, history proves that He follows through with those as well.

Today, those who have been washed in the Blood of Christ Jesus and have that Blood painted upon the doorposts of their hearts are God’s children and He truly IS our Heavenly Father, just as He desired from the very beginning. Doesn’t it make sense, that if He is willing and able to abide within each of us and set up His earthly Throne in our hearts, that He deserves a place worthy of our praise and worship?!

Let us be enthusiastic in our living for Him and striving to follow His will within our lives. THAT is the best way to praise and worship, the Living God, Whom we are blessed to call Father!

Faith . . . John 20:29

I believe without seeing, I know that I know,
I know that GOD love’s me and won’t let me go.

I can feel sunshine even in rain;
I see heaven without fear or pain.

I know that this sadness which I know today,
Won’t last forever for GOD’S made a WAY.

My faith is in JESUS who suffered and died;
So that I could live and without shame to hide.

Every sin I committed from my birth till I sleep;
HE took on HIMSELF so my soul I could keep.

Although I’ve not seen, in HIS WORD I believe,
For I now have new life living in me.

I believe in the SON of a virgin’s birth,
I believe that HE died and rose from the earth;

I believe I’m forgiven and have been set free,
That the cross of HIS love HE bore for me.

Faith mixed with grace helps me to see;
That the ONE who has risen, rises in me.

The world is in shambles, they want us inside,
Socially distance; and in fear many hide.

But what about faith? Do we truly believe? Can we understand?
That faith is belief in GOD and not man.

Faith is believing in what I can’t see now, yes; even this shall fade,
I hope in JESUS HIS finished work on the cross, it was my debt which HE paid.

2 John, Verse 1-3

Introduction

In this short letter, the Beloved Apostle refers to himself as, the Elder. This could be how he referred himself to the churches he corresponded too or to individuals. This brings up a question, not of authenticity, but of who or whom this letter was addressed.

John introduced it with the greeting, “To the elect lady and her children,” (verse 1). Commonly there are at the LEAST a couple of theories as to what this means. One is that John is addressing the “Church, the Bride of Christ,” as a whole or at the least a local church he was familiar with, with the intent that the letter reach other churches. Another theory is that he addressed it to an unnamed Christian woman and her children who were considered part of the elect of God and of Christ Jesus.

Churches however were often referred to as “sisters” in the faith and especially by the Apostle John and most likely due to the fact that the TRUE Church is the betrothed Bride of Christ with Christ Jesus as the Bridegroom. Many bible scholars believe that this letter was written to an actual individual woman and I am by no means a bible scholar, but the flow and the substance of the letter leads me to believe it was addressed to a particular church with the intent of being read elsewhere. The children could easily refer to other churches that were branches of the main, for in the days of early Christianity at the time John would have written this, the norm was NOT to establish mega-churches or congregations, but smaller ones, making disciples of others so that they could go out and spread the gospel and establish churches, many times, home churches, in other areas.

Two main themes are strongly emphasized within this short letter; to follow Christ’s commandment to obey God, the Father and to love one another in so doing and then to warn against the extreme danger of false teachers. False teachers during John’s time was as big a problem as it is today in our time. This is what makes John’s writings so timeless and proves the unchanging veracity of God’s Word. The extreme danger of false teaching is that the heresy taught could and can, seriously harm believers for eternity!

When it comes down to it, whether the letter was written to a specific woman and her children, to a local church and its offshoots, or to the Body of Christ as a whole, its Spiritual Principles stand through the centuries to all who will take the time to take them to heart.

2 John 1:1-3, “THE ELDER, To the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth, because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.”

I want to start out by mentioning a couple of things that I didn’t touch on in the introduction and one of them being the Apostle, the last remaining disciple of Jesus Christ, living at the time this was written, refers to himself as Elder. The significance of this to me shows that at the approximate time this letter was written, about 90 A.D. it is estimated, the Christian churches has already begun to take root in their establishment. Remember, the Temple and in fact, Jerusalem itself, had been destroyed about twenty years earlier in 70 A.D. and Judaism was not the only established religion by this time.

It is not surprising then, that the Beloved Apostle would refer to himself as “the Elder” due to his maturity, age and experience and his experience especially with Jesus Christ in person. Even today, it is common for those who have ministered, or as the word means, to have served, in the Word of God and to their/our brothers and sisters, to truly be considered an Elder. It is not, as it was not back in John’s time, a term that was or even today, is lightly or frivolously given.

It is not that an Elder is above the rest of the flock, standing on a pedestal looking down upon the congregation, but rather in humility is in the midst of the flock or congregation, on the same level and the only distinguishing factor is the experience and maturity. It shows to others that when it comes to the knowledge of the Word of God, they can be relied upon to continue to SERVE. Yes, I emphasize that word serve, because too many who claim to be ministers today, have forgotten that we are servants to our brothers and sisters and not overlords! We live in an age and have for a while now, when the word servant is discarded as to belittling! Yet, I would argue that it is one of the greatest areas to occupy ourselves than most others!

Today, many occupations and careers that involve serving others, have had title changes to remove the stigma associated with serving others, thus, in their own minds at least, those doing that kind of work can “feel” better about themselves or to some extent, even above others!

Anyway, the term, Elder, denotes one who has maturity and experience when it comes to serving others and especially in regards AND application of the Word of God. Today, it can designate someone like a bishop or an overseer in the scheme of church organization, but in truth, to me, it is the highest form of compliment you can give one who serves or has served.

We’ve discussed in the introduction the possibilities of who or whom John has addressed the letter too, but continuing on, he writes, “whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth.” John loves the church and those within the church. The true Church is one of John’s greatest loves after Christ Jesus. But he goes on to say, “and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth.”

To me this phrase alone tends to cause me to doubt that he was writing to an individual woman rather than a church he was familiar with. However, it should be noted that even individuals can be recognized and known for the truth they walk in. It is just that to me, it would be a peculiar way of addressing an individual. Whoever he is addressing, they are known for walking in and living in the truth. Did you catch that? They are KNOWN for it! To be known for a character trait like that, you have to be living it. That is the ONLY way you will be known for something such as truth.

It IS God’s truth that binds hearts that would never even be considered, one of another. When we are born-again in Christ Jesus with His Holy Spirit abiding in us, we have found ourselves in a wonderful type of fellowship or communion with others that never would have been possible without that spiritual regeneration. Our common love for God, our Heavenly Father, His love AND the truth have afforded us a spiritual bond the world cannot and does not comprehend!

When I am on social media and often times in my teaching and writing, I often write, brothers and sisters and make an effort to put that down. When I speak, I often speak of my brothers and sisters and I don’t do it lightly, for to me, one of the greatest treasures AND blessings the Lord has given us in this natural life, is the fellowship with those who ALSO love the Lord in an intimate way.

The Apostle Paul wrote this to the Romans, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” – Romans 8:16-17.

Now, too many times, we look at this Scripture, or read it and pass it by without giving it a thought and yet through the years, the Holy Spirit has blessed me with something to me that is profound. I get a thought, not always just a Spiritual Principle, but here I am applying it to the spiritual, and in that thought, I tend to think it through from a starting point to a point where it ends in a practical application.

Paul tells us that “the Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit.” Okay, first and foremost we are in COMMUNION with Him. This doesn’t always mean communication like some think, you know, hearing voices and such, BUT, it IS a more intimate type of relationship. Communion is fellowshipping with one another. It is sensing one another’s presence, their state of being with you and not always verbally with words. I have walked with the Lord long enough now, to know when His presence is making Himself known to me.

Another Scripture, “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6. I have been with the Lord long enough, or I should say He has been with me, that in my younger days when I would be rebellious or let hurt cause me to wander, I was STILL aware of His presence in my life! When God tells His child or His children that He will NEVER leaven them nor forsake them, NEVER means just that! But that is communion.

But back to Paul’s writing; the Holy Spirit lets us know “that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs.” He doesn’t just let us know His presence is with us, but He witnesses or testifies to our hearts and spirit that we ARE His children and thus heirs of His. But, His witness or testimony goes even further, because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ within us, then we “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.” We are heirs of God, but we are heirs JOINTLY with Christ Jesus. But here’s the thought I want to make concerning our fellowship or communion with God AND with one another as brothers and sisters.

It would stand to reason that if we know, by the Holy Spirit’s witness, that we are children, individually a child, but as a whole, God’s children, then we just aren’t brothers and sisters of one another, we will KNOW through the witness of the Holy Spirit who truly is our brother and sister!

It doesn’t come right out and say this, but, if the Holy Spirit which abides within us, bears witness with our spirit, is in communion, then our spirit is alive and able to communion with Him as well, and that means that if your spirit is being witnessed too by the Holy Spirit that you are also God’s child, then that witness of the Holy Spirit extends to you and I. That same spirit SHOULD testify or witness that we are brothers and sisters, CO-HEIRS with Christ Jesus AND with one another. In other words, our spirit should witness with one another also, that we belong to Christ as brothers and sisters.

I brought all this up to confirm what the Beloved Apostle wrote concerning loving those who walk in and have known and know the truth! The Holy Spirit bears witness of this very fact! This also leads to the last part of that second verse, “because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever.” We, as John does, can love one another IN truth because we are part of those who know and have known the truth and that truth ABIDES within us and will abide in us forever!

Remember, the Holy Spirit is also called, the Spirit of Truth. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.” – John 16:13. When the Holy Spirit abides in you, then the Spirit of Truth abides in you and all that John is stating here is confirmed by the Word of God, itself.

Here is an interesting side thought; that “truth which abides in us will be with us forever.” The Bible tells us that in the last days there shall be an apostasy. The turning away from the truth back into the darkness from which we originally repented. I have always stated that apostasy, in its most spiritual form is the opposite of repentance. Repentance is doing a 180 degree turn from darkness into the Light of Christ Jesus. Apostasy, in principle, is doing a 180 degree turn from the Light of Christ Jesus, back into the darkness! BUT, here is my point; the Apostle John wrote that “the truth will be with us forever.” This means just what I have suspected for years. The people that turn from the Light back into darkness will do so knowingly and willingly because the truth or at least the KNOWLEDGE of the truth is still within. This is what makes the sin of apostasy so eternally devastating. Now to my brothers and sisters who cling to Calvinistic teaching, I know this creates controversy and dissension, but I will not debate this point. The Scriptures, in their context, point that their will be apostasy and in truth we are already witnessing it. Explain it however you feel comfortable with, the truth is, it is spiritually and eternally devastating; and of that we can agree upon.

Now to finish off the Beloved Apostle’s greeting as found in verse three, let me just say this; we know that Grace is unmerited or undeserved favor. Those who receive grace actually deserve the opposite and that is what makes grace the Spiritual Attribute that it is. Mercy is pity and compassion shown upon those who are guilty and don’t deserve the grace. Mercy and Grace often go hand in hand, mainly because God, our Heavenly Father bestowed Grace upon us out of His Mercy for us. Peace is the harmonious relationship that results from God’s Grace and Mercy. When we experience true Spiritual Peace, it is because of the knowledge we have of God’s Grace and His Mercy.

Now all three of these attributes are “from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.” God is the source of the Spiritual Attributes of Grace, Mercy and Peace. All things come from the Father, THROUGH the Lord Jesus Christ. He is like the channel from which we receive these gifts from the Father.

We go to the Father, THROUGH Christ Jesus and Jesus shows us the Father, in return, we receive from the Father, THROUGH Christ Jesus. This was Christ’s mission to mankind. He is, as it were, the conduit for which we are able to once again commune with the Father. One of my favorite Scriptures actually demonstrates this and it was the leading Scripture that led me to Salvation through Christ Jesus.

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” – 1 Timothy 2:3-5.

God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. When you are born-again, spiritually reawakened and regenerated you gain the knowledge of the truth through the abiding of the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. This is all done THROUGH Christ Jesus! Our communion with God and God with us is through Christ Jesus and always will be.

Next we will begin with 2 John verse 4.

It’s Almost Dinner Time

I was going through some old papers and things I no longer need just the other day so I could dispose of them and I came across this in back of one of my folders. I had forgotten about it. This is a word the Lord gave me almost twenty years ago on October 18, 2000. I believe this was on the Lord’s heart even then.

Just as earthly parents send their children outside the home to play, or even older children and adults to work, so it is with our Heavenly Father. But, outside the home was never meant to become the substitute for our real home. You don’t normally go to work, or to the playground and decide to make these areas your home. You always come back to where you belong, your true home, where you know you live, rest and spend with your loved ones. Again, so it is with our Heavenly Father.

He sent us out from our home to work. This workplace was never meant to become our substitute home, but sadly many of His children have decided they like this place better and have pitched tent stakes and have now started calling this workplace, home. Many have lost their way and can’t find their true home.

Yet, the Father, right now is calling us to come and get ready, and wash up for dinner. Many are not hearing Him call because they have tuned out everything but where they are in this instant.

The hour is at hand where those who have not lost their way are also being called to the Lord’s dinner table. The Father is calling out and saying, “Open your ears and listen to my voice calling out to you. My voice will show you the way home so that you won’t miss dinner!”

The Lord is saying to those who do hear and know His voice, “Call your brothers and sisters and tell them to get ready for dinner.”

I asked the Father, just as a young child would, “What if they won’t listen or won’t come back?”

He solemnly replied, “Then they will miss dinner.”

People, dinner is almost ready.

As I said, this was almost twenty years ago! All I have to ask right now is this; if dinner was almost ready back then, don’t you think it is probably just about ready to be served right now?!

It is certainly time to make sure everyone is welcome and ready to be seated at the banqueting table! The Father’s desire is that NONE should miss what He is offering!
