Many Deceived

Many in Jesus' name

This doesn’t just mean many will CLAIM to be Christ, but many will also come using His name and walking in corruption. DO NOT BE DECEIVED! Test the Spirits! (1 John 4:1).

Jude Verses 12-13

Jude 1:12-13, “These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”

We continue where we left off in verse 12.

On top of the description about raging waves, Jude then piles on yet another, they are “late autumn trees without fruit,” and what are trees without fruit good for? Firewood. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” – Matthew 7:19-20. Notice the severity of this statement from Jesus Himself. This is from one of the most controversial chapters in the church today. Why? Because it is known as the “thou shalt not judge,” chapter although hardly anyone goes beyond the first few verses. Yet here we see judgment, or rather so as not to confuse with semantics, DISCERNMENT, a gift of the Holy Spirit put to practical use.

trees no fruit wp

Trees that don’t produce or produce bad fruit are only worth the firewood you can salvage from them. Jude was not holding back on his rhetoric with his writing concerning these people of falsehood. He states they are “twice dead, pulled up by the roots.” Now there is a lot of controversy over what constitutes apostasy, but the Bible and the Holy Spirit Who inspired it made it very plain to follow along.

Jude is being very specific with this statement. You can be once dead and yet be redeemed by your spirit going through a rebirth. Jesus told Nicodemus this is what being “born-again” was about. Now I am going to once again use a Scripture from Hebrews I have been relying on to make a point that confirms this statement of Jude’s.

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.” – Hebrews 6:4-6.

This signifies being dead once again! You were dead once, then enlightened and renewed, yet through choice and choice alone fall away to suffer a second death. Christ was crucified ONCE for all. He cannot be crucified again when you BY CHOICE, repent of your repentance!!

But look at the reference with that; they are like trees “pulled up by the roots.” Now how do we reference that? Speaking of those who walk in godliness, “He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” – Psalm 1:3 and then, “For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:8.

pulled up by roots wp

But what Jude is saying is that these who are twice dead, have been “pulled up by the roots.” They are no longer getting nourishment from the Living Water, therefore all the promises that Psalms and Jeremiah state about that tree, no longer apply to these apostates! The Bible just does NOT contradict itself, but will continually confirm its truths.

But Jude, who wanted to write about more pleasant things continues on. These people are “raging waves of the sea.” In other words, just like the sea when its waves crash and tumble, these people are disorderly, furious, full of wrath and boisterous! Have you ever seen or witnessed raging seas? For all of their noise and commotion they have nothing to display except their shame. It is nothing more than froth and foam lapping upon the shore. Just bluster with no substance.

And I love this last description he uses. They are like “wandering stars.” What ARE wandering stars? Think about it and especially in relation to when this was written. Today, we might think of the asteroids, colliding and bumping into one another. They’re celestial bodies that don’t move in necessarily regular or orderly patterns. Here’s the thing I love; mariners and others who travel, can’t use them as navigational aids. Think about that for a moment.

Here Jude is using analogies for us to picture the character and nature of these false teachers and apostates. You can’t get reliable spiritual direction from these “religious” celestial bodies either. They collide with others and some like bright comets might shine momentarily but then fizzle out without any tangible substance. The only thing they have going for them is “the blackness of darkness forever.”

Now I want you to contemplate that statement. Jesus is the Light of the world. The Apostle John in his Gospel writes in the first chapter that He IS the Light that came into the world. The darkness does not comprehend it; in other words, the darkness rejects the Light. It tries to deny it but it can’t, it can only reject it. These apostates and false teachers only have reservations in that “blackness of darkness.” Where they are headed and all like them, there will be NO light whatsoever because in this life they rejected it and wanted nothing to do with it. They will be given in eternity what they wanted here. They chose darkness and that is what is in store for them.

darkness of cave wp

If you have ever been in a position to go cave exploring, you can imagine then total blackness. You go into the depths of the cave with your light and when the light of the entrance is no longer able to penetrate you turn off your light and you are immersed in total blackness. The thing is, even then, there is a hint of light. Imagine however, utter and absolute darkness. Not even a little hint of light available. THAT is what awaits the wicked and those who reject the Light. It’s a scary thought if you seriously think about it for any amount of time.

To choose to reject the Lord, once you have tasted His Light and the blessings and joy that accompany walking in Him and with Him is a scary thought indeed. The choice to walk daily with Him is just that, it is a choice. Now understand, I am not talking about falling into temptation, sinning and then repenting of that sin. I am talking about outright rejecting the Light of His love. It is beyond imagining, and yet this is what Jude is warning against and illustrating the type of person who demonstrates that character. It is a warning that more than Jude wrote about for a reason. This is why it is so important to pray for one another and to shoulder one another’s burdens, as the Word describes.

Next post we will begin with Jude verse 14.

A Different Type of Prayer

*Pastor’s Note: This prayer may seem like it is based in sarcasm, but to many this is the perspective they are thinking of. When we DO pray for those that are around us and do so in the light of love, our perspectives start to change. Let’s allow the change to begin with and in us.

Dearest Heavenly Father,

Help us remember that that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can’t make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who we think really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all those around us. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love. Lord, let Your light shine through so that what they see is You!

In Jesus’ Name we pray. . . . Amen!

Decline of Conscience

In our society, we’re witnessing the decline of conscience. It’s concurrent with the unfashionability and political incorrectness of a certain traditional belief. Doesn’t anybody see a connection? If you subscribe to this traditional belief, you are immediately stereotyped as a wild-eyed fanatic, and worse, just for believing the same message that’s been accepted by millions for centuries. Yet, exactly concurrent with today’s declining conscience and consequent increase in crime, hate, unethical behavior and apathy, has been the public trashing of this traditional faith. I say again, doesn’t anyone see a connection? The only group that it’s actually “politically correct” to hate is the group that still holds this traditional belief.

conscience wp

Guilt has become something to be purged at all cost. But guilt is like pain, only for the soul. If you deaden all pain, sooner or later you’ll lean against a hot stove and burn off your fingers. If you deaden all guilt, you’ll eventually find the rest of your body in a similar situation.

The conscience is the carnal entity that allows men the knowledge of what is right and wrong, but being a carnal entity it is also able to be hardened if not altogether purged.

The only TRUE solution for this is the indwelling Holy Spirit that is promised to all who have a rebirth of their spirit, are in essence, spiritually born-again. The Holy Spirit, cannot be hardened, for being One with God and Christ Jesus, He will NEVER change and His truths will always remain just that, TRUTH!

Our conscience may at some point lead us astray, if it leads us at all, but the Holy Spirit will ALWAYS lead us to God, the Father through Jesus Christ.

One additional benefit is that guilt can be used by the enemy of our souls to put us down and make us seem less in God’s eyes. The Holy Spirit will ALWAYS reveal to us God’s unfailing love to us!

Just a couple things to think upon and contemplate!

Blessings To God and To Others

Dear Heavenly Father;

Blessings and honor Father are yours through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. Father, how can we thank You enough for the amazing grace, mercy and unconditional love that has been showered down on all of us as Your children without measure and without cost.

We bless and thank You for choosing us before the foundation of the world to become Your children and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus our Lord. You have set us apart to be holy and blameless before You all the days of our lives. You have even adopted us as Your sons and daughters and seated us together with Christ in heavenly places. Your goodness is beyond comprehension and Your loving-kindness causes our hearts to rejoice in You and humbles us in our spirit.

Father, You are so precious and we humble ourselves before You today and say thank You. Thank you for the blessings that You bestow that are new each and every morning. You are an AWESOME God and Heavenly Father and You are worthy of our praise and exultation each and every day.

We thank You that You are with us continually throughout each and ever day and Your love continues throughout to support us, to guard and protect us as we go about our daily lives and then even continues into the dark of night. Lord, truly in every moment our hope is totally in You.

Lord, when we count our many blessings, they are truly too many to comprehend for great is Your faithfulness to us each and every day. Lord, increase our capacity to love not just You, but those neighbors around us and as You have blessed us, help us to be a blessing, through love, to others just as graciously without regard of anything in return.

You have not only supplied our every need but have blessed us with so  much more than we can even ask for and for that we bless Your holy Name for ever and ever.

Forgive us for any of our transgressions Father, whether intentional or unknown and unintentional for we look to You through Your Son, our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Help us to always forgive others as You have forgiven us and help us to love the lost as You do.

We recognize in all sincerity that we are not worthy of Your love and there is no way we can even begin to earn it and yet You have lifted us up and seated us together with Christ in heavenly places. We worship and adore You and we bless Your holy name for ever and ever and pray these things in the precious Name of Jesus Christ, Your Son.

Amen and AMEN!

In The Darkness . . . To The Light

IN THE DARKNESS . . . TO THE LIGHT

God, Where Am I Going If I Don’t Need YOU?
And When Am I Going to Seek What Is True?
Why Do I Long to Just Satisfy Flesh?
And Choose to Ignore That the Penalty’s Death?

Who Do I Really Think That I Am?
That I Have Ascended My Throne Past THE LAMB?
I Choose When to Call HIM . . . When I Have A Need
And All of The Time Causing HIS Heart to Bleed.

HIS Love Is Forever . . . But So Are HIS Laws
I Must Face Who I Am and Admit Grievous Flaws
You Laugh: “That’s the Old Days! The Law’s Passed Away!”
But Not If THE LORD’s Not Your Savior Today
You Say You Have Grace So It’s Cool You Deride
Grace Is for Service . . .Not So Sinners Can Slide!

What Makes Me Think I Can Live Life A Loner?
It’s GOD’s Air I Breathe – It’s HIS World. HE’s the Owner!

So, Who Am I Kidding When I Live Like This?
No Better Than Judas’s Traitorous Kiss
I Can’t Say I Love HIM and Live Life in Sin
I Can’t Stay A Loser and Think I Can Win.

It’s Time That I Face the One in The Mirror
And Look in My Eyes and See My Soul Clearer
For I Was Created for GOD’s Own Good Pleasure
Since When Do I Think in Myself, I’m A Treasure?

Eternity’s Not Just A Series of Years
It’s Forever and Ever in Joy or In Tears
If I Don’t Repent and Turn from My Own Pride
HE’ll Pass on The Judgment That I Did Decide.

This Life Will Be Over in Less Than A Blink
So, It’s Time That I Tell Self the Truth and To Think
That If I’m So Sure That I’m Doing So Well
Is Eternity Fine. . . If I Spend It in Hell?

Heaven’s Forever . . . And Hell’s Dungeon Too
Heaven’s the Place . . . GOD Created for You
Hell Is the Pit Where the Wicked Will Be
It’s Time You Get Real . . . Let the Truth Set You Free.
Not One of Us Knows When We’ll Breathe Our Last Sigh
To Live? To KNOW JESUS. NO JESUS? To Die.

In the darkness . . . to the light ml wp

Creation – No Answers to Our Questions

anecdotal stories

Malachi 3:16-17, “Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. “They will be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.”

1 John 3:1-3, “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

Look In The Right Place

The last forty years have seen an accelerated effort to contact beings of higher intelligence in outer space. In 1982, Congress funded a computerized radio system that gave scientists access to seventy-four thousand radio channels as they tried to extract meaningful, repetitive signals from the flood of radio waves emitting from human activity in space and on earth. These speculative efforts indicate that, however poorly we understand the meaning of the search, everyone wants a relationship with superior beings. The motivation behind the entire space project rests on the assumption that a higher life form than ours exists and that we would profit from making contact with it.

Christians certainly agree with the scientists. An infinitely advanced Life does exist beyond this one, in a dimension not even the most powerful telescope or radio can ever reach. And we certainly agree that we profit by contact with that infinite Life: Jesus Christ. In fact, we do not merely profit, we become someone altogether different from what we have been before – part of God’s royal household.

Let Praise Be on Your Lips

*Pastor’s Note: This is one of the articles I wrote and posted for my very first website in the mid 90s soon after I got my first computer. I know, I was a slow up and comer! I thought it might interest my readers to read some of my first posted writings. Though this experience took place in the mid 80s, I didn’t write and share this until the mid 90s. I HAVE updated some of the Scripture references, but all in all, it is pretty much as I posted them on my very first website. The pictures were added for this posting, though.

Hebrews 13:15, “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

Years ago, one of the most blessed times in my life of Christian growth came when I was asked to be Praise and Worship minister of this church I had just started attending. It was totally the Holy Spirit and not my credentials!

The Pastor barely knew me, but he knew and trusted the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit pointed me out to him and it came during a time when I was told I would never be able to be used of the Lord again.

It came at a time, when I had started to buy into that lie of the enemy. I had done something that was so wrong, that surely the Lord could not use me in a public ministry at all! But–this Pastor trusted wholly in the Lord.

trust God wp
At that time, many of the churches were going through a spell in their services where the music minister would get up, tell you to turn to page so and so in the hymnal and you would sing a couple of verses and then the music minister would exhort about the significance of the song a little.

I had this idea for some time that it should be so different. Little did I know that the Holy Spirit was moving across services all over the US and the world! This Pastor asked me what I thought and then told me to implement it.

Well, now I had to put my faith where my mouth was, so to speak!!! I loved the Psalms and the stories of David. Despite his shortcomings, he was a man who had a heart after God! Even when he failed miserably and sinned atrociously, he always turned his heart to God with praise and with a desire to worship his God!!

That is what I foresaw in the Praise and Worship services. Let the music be the conduit for the praises to the Lord and as we became more in tune with praising the Lord and allowing Him to flow through our hearts, let His presence bring about in each of us a sense of overwhelming awe and humility, in other words, let our spirits join together in worshipping Him as the Almighty that He is!

I was able to teach on praise and teach on worship, I saw people, myself included transformed as we all learned together to give ourselves over to what the Holy Spirit wanted to accomplish! I saw things begin to happen in people’s lives as they started to surrender to the moving of the Holy Spirit, not in some holy roller emotional turmoil, but rather in the softness and gentleness of a person who begins to realize they are in the presence of the Almighty creator of the Universe!

People were healed, and we didn’t have to lay a hand on anyone, people started giving at first sacrificially without having to be prompted, and then freely, people were praying for one another without having to be prompted and when it was time to hear the Word of the Lord taught, all ears were glued to hear what Pastor had to say!!!

worship - a catalyst wp
We learned the importance of the power of praise taking place in our lives before we ever entered into the church building! We learned and we were overtaken in praising the Lord as a matter of lifestyle rather than just something we waited to express on Sundays and Wednesdays! I literally seen what the Lord was able to accomplish in the lives of people who were willing to praise the Lord in all things and the trials we faced where miniscule in the face of our praise before the Lord!

If you want to learn to praise God, read the Psalms. Then read them again and again. Compare the various Psalms of David to the situation that he was going through in his life at the time and you will see the same theme over and over despite his circumstance, he always turned his heart and lips to the Lord. He didn’t just praise the Lord in his heart and mind, he made a habit of vocalizing his praise. He privately praised the Lord and he publicly praised the Lord as well.

When we can get to the point where we no longer have to think about praising the Lord, but rather do it as a matter of course and make it a part of our lifestyle, just as much as eating is a part of our lifestyle, you will find that when it comes to worshipping the Lord, your heart, mind and spirit are already to enter into that manifest presence of the Lord, the very presence that is waiting for you to commune intimately with Him.

This is not some mystical thing you do or some mantra that you chant over and over to get yourself into a state, this is allowing your heart, mind and spirit to exalt and magnify the very Lord that you already love for just who He is and not just for what He can do for you!

So, practice praising Him. That is how you start. Remind yourself throughout your day to praise Him, and you will find the more you do it, the more you “practice” it, the more it will become a part of you no matter your situation and soon you will find yourself praising the Lord from the depths of your spirit in all situations without having to think about it!!

We know how to demonstrate our love for one another by giving of our time and selves to prayer and deeds, let us demonstrate our love for the Lord by learning to “praise Him continually,” just as the Lord of all Creation deserves!!

love through praise wp

Jude Verse 12

Jude 1:12, “These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;”

Now in verse 12, Jude uses illustrations from nature to describe the emptiness and worthlessness of these apostates and false teachers. He starts out by criticizing a celebration that was common in the early church leading up to communion, the breaking of bread and drinking and sharing of the wine associated with and in remembrance of the Lord’s Supper.

When celebrated in the early church, believers would actually partake of complete meals before taking part in Communion. In most cases it was described as a “fellowship meal” where the brothers and sisters could gather together. It was a time of reminiscing as well as teachers and what Jude is pointing out is that allowing these false teachers to take part was causing blemishes on the whole celebration. It was allowing some to criticizing and make claims of hypocrisy.

communion wp

These false teachers, these apostates who truly knew better but had ulterior motives were becoming a danger to the not just the sacredness of the celebrations, but used these times as opportunities to steer others away from the truth. In some of the churches, this sharing of meals turned into times of wanton gluttony and drunken revelry and partying. In some of the churches, there were those who hoarded the food quickly while others who were taking part actually went without.

It shouldn’t have to be stated that no church function, no matter how special OR routine, should become an opportunity for selfishness or self-centeredness, disorder, greed, gluttony or any other sins that would destroy the unity and purpose of why brothers and sisters are gathering together. It truly does open the door to division and dissension when there should be a time of joy within the Body of Christ.

I don’t want you to think for one minute this was just isolated to the time of Jude’s writing either. Even today there are examples of this type of self-centeredness and self-righteous behavior.

My wife and I were involved many years ago in an independent, Charismatic-styled church that had actually broken off from an Assembly of God church in the area. Unbeknownst to us at first, the “Pastor” and his wife used to be Sunday School teachers that had a following out with the leadership of the Assemblies congregation and decided to take some of the membership and start their own church. We came in at a time when they were needing help with teaching and such and of course we dug right in. It didn’t take long for “red flags” to start popping up here and there, yet as we prayed for the Lord’s direction, the Holy Spirit prompted us to stay and work as well as teach.

Well, one of the monthly functions was to hand out food that was donated from organizations who collected food specifically for churches to distribute. We were all excited and the first Saturday that we were involved, as others in the congregation were gathering boxes and bags of food for themselves, my wife and I started putting together a couple of boxes for a couple of families we knew that were on again, off again members, but who were desperately in need of help like this.

food pantry wp

When the “Pastor” asked us what we were doing, we of course told him and named the two families we were preparing the boxes for. His attitude and statement? These people knew when the food was going to be distributed and if they cared enough to come regular to church, then provisions could be made, but no one was going to “deliver” free food to them.

Do you think we were floored? That doesn’t even begin to describe how we felt! Here was an opportunity to be a blessing and yes, I know there are those who DO take advantage of church generosity, but love for others is an action and the Lord doesn’t tell us to just show love to those who can reciprocate in kind. Rather, we are demonstrate God’s love to ALL! It was a real eye-opener for us and we soon realized why the Lord sent us there.

The Lord led us there for a reason and we were there for quite a while teaching and serving, but it was not easy. I truly believe was giving them a chance to become something really special in that community, but the seed of self-centeredness and the lust for authority was a hard thing to combat. When it was all said and done, the Lord finally released Sue and I to go on to another work. But there are things about that “church” that I will have a hard time forgetting.

So when you look at it, you can certainly see the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Jude’s writing that is meant to span the generations and the many years before the time of the Lord to return. His Word, God’s Word is just as relevant today as it was then. Human nature just does not change without the help and influence of the Holy Spirit within.

The sad fact is that these people who come in like wolves, dressed as sheep, are there to destroy and besmirch the faith. Jude continues with illustrations and analogies so easy and common to comprehend. These people “are clouds without water, carried about by the winds.”

clouds without water wp

In other words, they promise with their lips refreshment to the dry and weary but in their wake all they leave behind is disappointment and disillusionment. As soon as they are done with their dirty work in one area, like the wind, they vanish and go to another area.

Next post we will continue with Jude verse 12.

Pray Sincerely

“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” – Mark 11:24-26.

Then He said to them in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.” – Mark 12:38-40.

He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. – Mark 14:35-36, 39.

Everybody is extremely aware of the Lord’s prayer as found in the Gospel of Matthew, but I want to depart just a little bit from that and hit on a few points to consider when praying to the Father, in Jesus’ name.

pray sincerely wp

First and foremost, we don’t just follow the instructions that Jesus gave to His disciples on prayer, but we also follow His example. Now I certainly don’t mean by repeating what He prayed, word for word, but rather by using His prayers as a template, a pattern in how we SHOULD be communing with the Father. Remember this and so many people forget, prayer IS communion with the Father. It is making our requests known, but also listening for “that still small voice” that is ready also to answer us and commune with us.

Too many in our day and age have gotten so messed up with traditions of man, that they have truly forgotten the very purpose of prayer! You develop relationships with your friends and family by communicating with them. It’s no different with our Heavenly Father. The WHOLE purpose in salvation and redemption is to have an intimate relationship with God Almighty AS our Heavenly Father! That is the purpose and reason He created us to begin with; to have a people He could love who would in turn love Him as Father.

This whole scenario of finding a quiet spot or closet and folding your hands and kneeling, etc., etc., is nothing more than a FORM of religion that we have adopted. It is meant to soothe your conscience into believing your are doing something truly spiritual. The sad truth is, we have seen by the given Scriptures above that the Pharisees where VERY religious, but hypocritical and not in the least spiritual!

Now before I get tons of comments or emails stating I’m wrong concerning quiet time, etc., there IS a time and place for that. But with your family and friends, conversations that build relationships are also very spontaneous. Now in the case of our Heavenly Father, we KNOW that the Spirit of Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit resides within us and co-habits with our spirits. That is what being reborn spiritually is all about. Our spirits have been reawakened and made alive to Christ when we accepted Him as Lord of Lords!

holy spirit within wp

What this means is since the Lord leads from within us with His Spirit, and He and the Father are One, the Father is closer than a thought to us. We can commune with Him in the middle of our work day, or driving to or from work, shopping at the store, etc. It is only a matter of practice by doing what the Apostle Paul wrote under inspiration of the Holy Spirit and it is something thought familiar to really consider wholly:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” – Philippians 4:6-9.

The Lord is already aware of our heart and our thoughts. When we CHOOSE to meditate and think on Him, He is right there as close as close can be, but it is our relationship with Him that benefits and becomes more intimate.

Today, after fifty plus years of being surrendered to the Lord, despite the ups and downs and learning to relate to Him, I cannot even begin to imagine my life without Him in my thoughts, whether during times of joy, times of sorrow or even times of anxiety wondering about what MIGHT happen. I have become so accustomed to communing with Him at a moments notice I would truly mourn and grieve if I lost that ability. By no means am I the only one either. I’m not “tooting my own horn” as it were. Anyone who has surrendered to the Lord for any amount of their lives know the lifestyle change I’m talking about. For those that haven’t experienced it, it goes back to that old cliché “practice makes perfect.” It takes a conscious effort of choice to focus your thoughts at a moment’s notice on the Lord but oh so worth the effort!

public prayer wp

There are times and definitely circumstances for public prayer and I have always loved leading others in prayer, but it is not for the opportunity of standing in front of others to “placate” your ego. Prayer is a powerful tool AND weapon, when spoken or thought of in faith. When it is sincere and fervent, the Lord Who sees ALL in secret, takes in to account the motive AND the message behind that prayer. Prayer such as this, changes lives, changes circumstances and removes obstacles to the believer. When you pray and seek, I mean truly seek in the depths of your heart, the Lord’s will, there is more power than many truly recognize or consider.

It all goes back to what Jesus has said about His Father and how He cares so deeply for His creation. As a Father, He is going to give His children the best and not withhold anything of value that He deems prudent for their lives. It may not always be what we desire, unless we are truly desiring the Lord’s will, no matter the outcome. That again, takes faith and experience to realize the fulness of trusting wholly in God’s will in any situation.

We also need to understand what prayers the Father has. It is NOT that He doesn’t or can’t hear any prayer, but what I mean by this is for instance, when praying for the lost or someone trapped in a lifestyle of sinful behavior, it does no good to pray for God to bless them. God abhors and detests sin and can no more enable sinful behavior than if He could sin Himself! The only prayer in a circumstance like that is for that person’s soul and their salvation. God will intercede and do all within His power to ALLOW them a clear chance to CHOOSE to accept Him or reject His gift of salvation offered to all mankind.

This is different than in the case of someone who knows the Lord and has been tempted and fallen into that temptation. God has so many things at His disposal that He can use to urge that wayward child back into the fold. Sometimes He uses strict discipline and sometimes He uses blessings. He knows their hearts and knows what will bring them back into the Father’s fold. This is another important reason why we should pray for others in these situations, but not to limit God in our requests, but rather, state the request and then sincerely ask AND mean for Him to accomplish His will and plan for that individual.

praying God's will wp

Again, even though God knows what is best for an individual we are praying for, the very act of prayer doesn’t just demonstrate our love for others, but it also demonstrates our love, adoration and respect, our awe or “fear of the Lord” as it were concerning our relationship with Him. Sometimes the term “prayer” is more of a hindrance because of all the traditional connotations that go along with the term, when in actuality it is really the relationship and the ability to commune or communicate with the Father on an intimate basis. When God, the Father is truly ALL in our lives and not just a part, we will most assuredly want to spend time communing with Him and remember, that communion can be our thoughts directed towards Him. He reads our hearts and knows our thoughts. The relationship like so many other spiritual attributes is the action on our part He desires!

So in closing, just remember that our Heavenly Father desires the relationship with us that He created us for. He already knows our motives and thoughts so there is no room for being hypocritical or “religious” in our attempts to commune with Him. Sincerity of the heart, as Samuel wrote about David (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22), God is looking for those who are a people after His own heart, a people who understand and truly know that they can turn to God in ANY and EVERY situation that we go through. He is close enough and more than willing enough to hear us AND answer us! That, my brothers and sisters, is the kind of God we serve!

Our Awesome God! – 3

Part Three:

Okay, moving on from Part Two and our discussion about time and its relation to the Lord God.

With all that we taught on still fresh in mind, that time is nothing to God outside of His creation’s need for it, and the fact that He is the creator of knowledge (science) and if knowledge (science) would be on the increase in the last days, then it stands to reason that the Laws that man have come to understand that govern the basic principles of existence, all point to a supreme intelligence based in wisdom. This is where faith and men of science, not science itself strays from. Science, the laws that govern the workings of the universe and everything within it have only increased my faith in God’s sovereignty and His ability to be in control and also to demonstrate to all men His nature and character!

So, here is some more speculation; if the Lord were to tarry and postpone His coming for just a little while longer, Nasa is planning a larger space telescope, one that is supposed to see farther into the universe and thereby farther back in time. Here is why it would be back in time and it deals with another Law of science: light waves travel at a certain speed. Scientists are able to determine that speed and so by looking at the waves of light they are seeing from a certain distance they can tell when the light they are seeing first started appearing. Now there is some theories right now, again theories, that the speed of light is changing ever so slightly, but whether that is the case or not, remember, God is a God of order.

Now there is some theories right now, again theories, that the speed of light is changing ever so slightly, but whether that is the case or not, remember, God is a God of order.

Here’s the point as I’m not a scientist; if man could ever look back far enough to the beginning, Scientists believe they could “see” the birth of the universe. What many scientists call the big bang, again a theory. Again notice, it is a theory. Now, here is where speculation applied to truthful science increases my faith: I believe that what scientist would see at the moment they call the big bang, would be the spoken Word of God taking form! Here me out: remember Genesis 1:1? In the beginning – was only God. Beside God, there wasn’t even a universe. In the beginning, the only beginning that matters to mankind, was God – in His Heaven, which is a spiritual domain, which man can’t see with physical and natural eyes. So what would man see if he could see the very beginning? Remember, the Word states that there was no form and it was void, in the very beginning, at least in relation to creation.

I believe it would be the beginning of Creation. God spoke everything into existence. There was nothing there, and then He spoke and all the Laws that govern the universe came into being in an orderly fashion, chasing away what the Bible says was chaos, which causes the created particles of space dust to form suns and stars that in turn form planets that form constellations and galaxies that cause gravity and every other Law that governs how and why things work in the natural (not the spiritual) realm and they would be seen at that point of creation and guess what? Man without faith could only describe it as the big bang. The thing that man without faith can never explain is how could something from nothing start a big bang and that with all the (natural) Laws governing the workings of a universe at the same time! You see, scientists believe, because of all the true, natural Laws that God created, that the universe is expanding. It is actually getting larger. The laws that God started are still working and they will continue to work until God says no more, with a Word!

Now, are you beginning to see why I can say we serve an AWESOME and ALMIGHTY God?! I got all of that from thinking on the Word, “in the beginning God created!” I believe in the Laws of science. If I didn’t, I could just think myself off the ground. Gravity couldn’t trick me into believing it was real. But it is real, because my Heavenly Father created it so that all the worlds in all the galaxies in all the universe would follow an order and I wouldn’t fall off! You see, God has always been a God of order. Where there was nothing, He brought order and He still is today, even on the level of relationships!

Can you see why in this day and age I can embrace factual science (as compared to theoretical) and really praise God in all His AWESOME GLORY? You see, God is STILL in my mind, a miracle working God and here is why: He created what man calls the natural Laws; you know, the Laws of science that I have been talking about. Since He created them, why couldn’t He, their Creator know how to circumvent them? He does it often to demonstrate His power, His authority and yes even His mercy! He did it for Joshua by holding the sun from setting. He circumvented for that time a natural Law that He Himself created and instituted. Think of this as something awesome; to do that, how many other things did our God have to put on hold just so our sun would not set? Well for one thing, we know that it had to have stopped the rotation of the earth, for the sun doesn’t really set, it just appears that way because it is the earth that is moving.

Now carry it further – if the earth didn’t rotate, what about the moon? Did it still rotate and if so then why weren’t tides and such causing havoc all over the earth? Why weren’t we thrown from the earth? It takes the rotation to help create the gravity the way we experience it. What about the boundaries of the seas and oceans, lakes and streams, and what about the earth’s tectonic plates, the ones that are floating above the molten core of the earth?

Remember, this didn’t just happen once; it happened for Hezekiah also, although with Hezekiah the earth didn’t just stop. Think about it, the angle of the sun went back approximately 15 degrees. Think about what that means with the scientific knowledge we have today. It means the earth had to rotate backwards that number of degrees just to give the King a sign of the Lord’s mercy in his life! The earth didn’t just stop, it went backwards! Now with all the scientific Laws governing the universe, what Laws that He Himself ordained did He, our Heavenly Father circumvent to make that possible? Are you beginning to understand how our understanding of scientific principles and Laws is actually in our favor concerning how we perceive and walk in our faith? Faith is NOT always believing in what we can see and what we can know, but in what we know God Almighty to be!

What about Lazarus, one of Jesus’ dearest friends? Jesus could have went to him immediately to heal him of the sickness that afflicted Lazarus to death. Jesus hesitated and tarried and then told those around him to not fear but have faith. He told the disciples and all who would listen that He and the Father were ONE. Now He was going to prove it by circumventing the natural Law of death! How many scientific Laws did the Creator go around to accomplish that feat?

Think about it, even the disciples and Lazarus’ sisters told the Lord that the body would stink because it had been in the earth supposedly decaying already! Jesus PROVED beyond doubt that He was the Giver of life! Not just raising Lazarus from the dead but giving the breath of life back to him!

They thought it was awesome back then, but with our scientific knowledge of biology and physiology that we have today, not to mention the things we know about how the mind works (not talking about psychiatry, but psychology), I tell you, I read these things in the Bible and I don’t just take them as stories I heard as a child with awe; rather I am at times amazed and dumbstruck with the Power and Majesty of a God who loves us enough to call us His children!

No my brothers and sisters, I love science, true knowledge, for the science that I love is another creation of my Heavenly Father. It truly is a gift to mankind to demonstrate TO mankind Who He is, His nature and character. Yet with the truth in front of them, they try and deny it. Yet, you can’t deny the truth, you can only reject it or dismiss it. It is the Laws, the Order that governs how this universe runs and continues to run and no matter what scientists think they learn that is new, it all points to the ONE that is Omniscience, Omnipotent and the One who calls me His child!

Sure, God could have created the whole universe in six thousand years and made it look like it was billions to fool man, but why would He need to do that, when He could create it billions of years ago and then allow us on this day to get a glimpse of His creation that no man before us has ever seen except in visions and dreams?! Now that is what I find awesome. I find awesome the fact that my God has been around for so long, there is no word that can really describe how long eternity is. My mind can’t grasp it and when I realize that this creation could be billions and billions of years old and the Creator is my Father, now that is to me beyond awesome! That blows my mind and it most certainly doesn’t decrease my faith but rather increases my faith, tremendously!

Do you serve a God who is this awesome, whom time has no meaning and time itself was created for us for a measurement? Start looking at how much man has advanced in knowledge and you will realize it is nothing, absolutely nothing compared to our Father and His love for each and everyone of us! The Bible is forthright in telling us that our minds cannot even comprehend what awaits us in eternity! We are only just getting glimpses of God’s magnificence in the natural world. Think about this fact; someday God is going to create a NEW heaven and a NEW earth! That is going to be for us who believe and are in awe of Him today! Now is that awesome or what! Speculate on that and see if your faith doesn’t grow!

In closing, I don’t believe that science was created for man to just become smart in his own eyes. I believe it was created for His children that we could awe at His Glory and Majesty! I think that the Father, in His infinite wisdom designed this all for our benefit, that we might share in the Glory of His creation! It is our faith that makes His creation that much more real to us and not because some men who are trying to study what they can’t fathom say it is so! This is why, whenever there is a real break-through I get excited because to me, real science is an attribute of my Omniscient and Omnipotent Father that causes me to want to truly KNOW Him that much more!

These are the things that I speculate and meditate about, the things that I ask my Father about in the times that I spend in contemplation with Him. This was just an example of the first sentence in the Bible, imagine what there is in sixty-six complete books!!

So, one last query; how deep does YOUR faith go and just how BIG is your God?!

Our Awesome God! – 2

Part Two:

Okay, moving on from Part One where we were talking about Darwin’s false theory of evolution.

Now, as a scientific fact, due to fossil records and such (I know some “Christians” even dispute this), for instance, it has been proven that horses in the prehistoric ages (the laws of science that God created have proven there indeed were prehistoric ages besides the “hard” evidence), these horses were the size of dogs. They have evolved and adapted to the sizes they are today. There are still small horses, but they are still horses, they haven’t changed into dogs for instance or some other species of animals, they will always be horses. Elephants, on the other hand and their ancestry were huge, in fact they were what we now know to be Mammoths and Mastodons, yet today they are getting smaller and smaller as a species, this is being proven as the years go by, yet they are still elephants and they will always be of the species of elephant. The same can be said of all of the other many, many species and yet there is no Law of Nature, no specifics and no hard facts or evidence that shows us one species changes into another. Yet, we are asked to believe that the THEORY of evolution is factual!

Now here is something as reasoning people, I would like for you to consider; for instance if Darwin’s theory were even remotely true, we would continue to see evidence ALL around of transitional mutations with one species STILL in the process of turning into another. It would be an ongoing phenomenon. Yet scientists today aren’t looking around them because they know they won’t find anything, yet they are still trying to chase the prehistoric record to find that “missing link!”

missing link missing

Well, I propose a hypothesis that it’s missing because it never existed no matter how scientists try to twist the facts or the truth! Charles Darwin’s evolution is a theory, only that; an unsubstantiated theory with no facts to back it up. Survival of the species does not show one species changing into another, rather it just shows individual species adapting to their environment and changing to meet the environment’s demands, yet as a species it remains the same! Adaptation and evolution are two extremely different principles and yet the god of this world has blinded those that should be in awe of the Greatness and Majesty of the Lord! Remember what Matthew put in his Gospel about the blind leading the blind, they all fall into a pit! (Matthew 15:14).

Now, to put this in the terms of the Bible, I want to give you a Scripture that is so taken out of context that for generations it has become the traditional thought behind the Lord’s timing. Remember this also, this was put to pen, centuries later than Moses wrote the Lord’s creation account. “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” – 2 Peter 3:8.

It is widely taught that because the Holy Spirit inspired Moses to write about creation happening in days, and much later He inspired Peter to pen this Scripture that it must BE absolute truth that a day to God is one thousand years. So I always counteract that misuse of Scripture with Paul’s inspired writing:

“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” – 2 Corinthians 3:5-6.

When taken in context, which so many well-meaning people DON’T do, especially with the Bible, you can see that Peter is answering the question of the Lord’s time and most especially when it comes to the lost and His willingness to give mankind time to repent! How come it is that some people are so quick to take certain Scriptures as a literal meaning while others they are willing to ASSUME that it is just an analogy or metaphor for something else? You HAVE to rightly divide the Word of God!

Book.

Paul wrote this to his protégé Timothy; “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15.

This was written with not just Timothy in mind, but every person who was ever to pick up the Word of God! Some things are just not that significant concerning whether we are saved or not, BUT, they are significant in us understanding the character AND nature of our Heavenly Father! How in the world can you hope to have a relationship with One that you have not even a little understanding of?

The Bible does NOT contradict itself and if the Bible doesn’t line up with your theory, then I’m sorry, but it’s YOUR theory that is wrong and needs to change. Maybe, just maybe, you need to get God out of that box you have put Him in and expand your faith to encompass a God that is beyond our comprehension and understanding! We are to fear God, which literally means to be in AWE and WONDER of Him. If you continue to make God into your image, then before long He loses the allure of the mystery and wonder of His character and nature. I for one am amazed that time itself means NOTHING to God. It was created the moment He started creating because we, human-kind were always in His plans and thoughts from the very first moment He spoke and chased chaos away and replaced it with order!

Now, that scripture from Peter alone has caused so much misunderstanding and controversy concerning the truths of science and the Laws that govern it, and there ARE Laws that govern the sciences. Remember, our God Almighty, our Creator is a God of order and there was a reason for that. Many Fundamentalist Christians, and I claim to be one, believe this proves that the Lord created the heavens and the earth all in six days  and thus the earth and all in it and the heavens above are six thousand years old! I DO NOT agree with that view. I believe what Moses wrote and later what Peter wrote was to show us the magnificence of God and to understand that to Him time doesn’t matter! We have so many Christians that are staking their salvation on this fact alone as if this is an important issue in their salvation! There is only one thing important to a person’s salvation, the knowledge that Jesus died for their sins and His sinless sacrifice to pay their debt, and a person’s true belief AND confession of that fact!

believe on Jesus Christ

Yet, what you believe IS important in your walk and in you life of faith. Faith is one thing that SHOULD evolve from believing into knowing as you learn more about the character and nature of our Heavenly Father. So, I am not trying to detract you from believing in what is factual, but I am doing all I can to increase your faith and your knowledge of the Greatness and Awesomeness of our God!

Moving on, so, science tells us, not because of theory, but because of the very orderly laws that God created to govern the universe, that our universe is billions of years old. Now those of you who can reason and still have faith, if our Heavenly Father never had a beginning and shall never have an end, what is billions of years to Him? Stretch your thinking and think about the awesomeness of God; wouldn’t that be just a breath to the Lord, maybe just a heartbeat if even that? Our finite minds cannot comprehend that and thus it is written so we can understand the concept of time in relation to our Heavenly Father.

Okay, here’s why I believe Peter chose that example as compared to say “a million years is as a day.” Moses, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit shared with us the generations of man and their ages in chapter five of Genesis, there is no one that lived one-thousand years. Some came close, Methuselah was four years shy, but this was the longest that man could fathom and of course by the time Peter was living the age was far less than one hundred. Peter, who also was writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit spoke what men at that time could imagine was a long time. The time of the person who lived the longest on the earth was as a mere day to the Lord! The people of his day could fathom the awesomeness of that statement. Not many could fathom a million years or even a billion years. Today man can’t truly comprehend that.

In this day and age where millions and even billions are talked about in just about every marketplace it is a number that to most people is something they can try to imagine. Think of this; to those who have a million dollars for instance a billion may seem so far out of reach. Personally I can’t imagine that much in money, but time-wise we throw that amount around all the time. It has lost it’s mystique! So, don’t forget the Spirit of the Word of God. That same Scripture that Peter wrote should be awesome in even today’s world! It was written with the Spirit that time to the Lord means nothing.

Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” – Matthew 18:21-22.

forgive like Jesus

Now people today look at this as a metaphor that we are to forgive as much as necessary, although I will tell you, I knew a Pastor in Arizona that preached this figure literally! (True story!).

But in truth you see, this doesn’t mean that we aren’t to forgive just seven times, but neither are we to forgive only 490 times! This is a principle that Jesus was trying to teach Peter and those around him because Peter was feeling pretty good about himself when he suggested forgiving seven times. (The rabbis taught that it was only necessary to forgive three times and then you were no longer obligated).

Okay, here’s why we can believe that the example of the thousand years times one day was given to demonstrate that time doesn’t mean anything to the Lord. The knowledge that we have today, the scientific fact, was prophesied that we would have it. Daniel prophesied that we would have more knowledge; he didn’t prophesy however that we would necessarily be smarter or wiser!  Now, if I were to share with someone today about time as compared to the Lord, I would tell them that a billion years is as a heartbeat to the Lord!! For us, it gives the same idea of unlimited “time” as it did to the people of Peter’s day!

Are you going to lose your salvation if you believe the literal letter of the Word? I don’t believe so for a moment. But I also believe it is our responsibility individually to account for how we believe and why we believe. Remember what Paul wrote as quoted above in 2 Corinthians. We NEED to consider the Spirit of the Word and not JUST the letter. When God tells us to love Him and love our neighbor, we are to do the letter of that command, but if we do it without the Spirit behind it, it is no more than what James describes as works without faith and vice versa!

More to come.

Next time we will conclude with Part Three

When God Reveals The Truth

Daniel 2:47, The king answered Daniel and said, “Surely your God is a God of gods and a Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, since you have been able to reveal this mystery.” (NASB).

My wife and I, as many others in the Body of Christ, have been praying for quite some time now, years in fact, that God would continue to bring to light those things that have been hidden and done in the dark.

Now when we started, we had some very specific things in mind, but as the last few years have progressed we have seen the Hand of God moving in the world around us and within our Nation. Many, many things that have been done in secret ARE coming out in the light and it’s obvious things are stirring for even more things to be revealed.

light shining in darkness wp

Corruption, wickedness and blatant evil have no place to hide any more, now that God’s children have been fervently praying for a move of God. This is what my wife and I were discussing just this morning during prayer and Bible reading.

What I want to share briefly with my brothers and sisters in Christ is something the enemy would like to create for us to either remain blind or to stumble concerning the truth of God’s Hands and control in the world today.

James wrote this in his letter to the church as the Holy Spirit inspired him; “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe–and tremble!” – James 2:19. In other words, the demons believe the truth of God, but they still reject Him. So it is with many people concerning the truth.

God has promised that His children would not walk in the dark, but as we walk in the Spirit, we are walking in the Light of Christ. In many of Jesus’ prayers for His disciples, both then and now, He prayed that we would not be deceived nor taken in by the evil and deceit we would face. That is a promise that the Holy Spirit is revealing every day to those that “have eyes to see and ears to hear!” (Isaiah 6:9, Ezekiel 12:2, Matthew 13:13-14).

If you have been “practicing” walking in the Spirit, then you know the importance that the gift of discernment plays in the lives of believers. There are many things in this day and age that are being told us, all of us, and much of it is not true; and yet, the truth is NOT hid from God’s children!

However, here is the crux of the matter. We can be given the truth and that truth though it cannot, in the deepest recesses of the heart be denied, truth CAN be and often times IS rejected. The demons in James writing are a perfect case in point. So are those that reject the Gospel and Good News of Christ Jesus free gift of salvation. The truth can’t be denied no matter how hard a person tries, but it can and often is rejected.

This is the very stumbling block that the enemy would love to see us stumble over. The blind leading the blind as Matthew wrote in his Gospel account. (Matthew 15:14). It is not just the world and those enamored with it that we have to contend with; it is also the religious who have their own agendas and motives, just like when Jesus walked the earth. This is why there is such a big difference, an eternal difference, if the truth be known, between the religious and those walking in the Spirit. The Spirit leads to life and that more abundantly. The religious have a form of godliness, but no power to display. (2 Timothy 3:5).

form of godliness

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were witness to the TRUTH of the Word through the evident display of miracles, signs and wonders. Yet they still rejected the truth though they couldn’t deny the fact of the truth in front of their eyes.

We have many today that believe the miracles have ceased and yet today, I see miracles all around that are on a greater scale. Just because you don’t see in the natural hands healed, blinded eyes open (and I’m not saying this isn’t happening still in some places), but that is in the natural and Christ Jesus came to give us ETERNAL life and that more abundantly!

I see spiritually blinded eyes opened all the time, eyes that the devil darkened, and ears that are able to hear the truth of the Word of God and thus grow in faith. I see, the lame, those not able to walk in a coherent line, being transformed and able to walk in the Spirit. Now THOSE are eternal miracles! Those are the miracles of stony hearts turned back into flesh! Those hearts won’t die as those in the natural will, for these hearts have been raised from the dead!

Remember what the Apostle Paul wrote in his second letter to the Corinthians:

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.

Those that are healed in the natural are still going to suffer a natural death, but NOT so those who have been reborn, brought back from SPIRITUAL death! Yes, it’s all a matter of perspective; I know what you’re thinking, but isn’t a born-again follower of Christ Jesus, one walking in the Spirit of Christ, isn’t that person’s perspective supposed to be on the eternal?

My father-in-law used to always say, don’t believe everything you hear or read and only a portion of what you see. Wow! This is even more true today with all the ability for special effects and wizardry available within all the forms of media. The thing a true Christian has though is the Holy Spirit, giving them discernment and leading them in the paths that the Lord delights in. God’s children do not have to stumble as if in the dark. We don’t have to take all that the world is trying to throw our way as the ultimate truth, for we serve the God Who IS truth!

God is truth

My whole attempt for putting this forth today is to give my brothers and sisters in Christ some things to think and meditate on. If you are perplexed by the goings on in the world and nation around you, you don’t have to be in the least. Remember, confusion is the devil’s trickery. It is his age-old tool and if he keep you confused, you can lose sight of the Truth that is leading you. The Holy Spirit is our gift from the Father through Christ Jesus. He WILL lead you into all truth (John 16:13), and that truth WILL set you free! (John 8:32).

In closing, remember this; we have NOTHING whatsoever to fear from the world or from man when we are a true follower of Jesus Christ. We have His Holy Spirit within us giving us direction, if we listen, and He will NEVER lead us other than where the Father wants us to go.

God bless, walk in truth, walk in faith and please our Heavenly Father! (Hebrews 11:6).

Jude Verse 11

Jude 1:11, “Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.”

We continue where we left off in verse 11.

Then Jude goes on to give us a second example and that one of Balaam, a prophet who prophesied out of greed and not out of obedience to God’s Word. (Numbers 22-24). The sin of Balaam was the desire to become personally wealthy by making a business out of the service to God. Even though Balaam was a prophet that heard the voice of God, he was covetous and willing to sell out his gift for money.

balaam and donkey wp

I am sorry to say, we can see this very thing happening today and especially in the United States, “the land of the free,” where anyone can display themselves in front of a television audience or in the biggest cathedrals and profess to proclaim the Word of the Lord and yet you hardly ever, if you ever do, hear them “preach” on any of the harder subjects that are just as much a part of the Word of God!

Yet, even though when God calls someone to a particular ministry, He will equip them and supply them to fulfill it with what they need, but it is never enough. For some reason, when it comes to their finances, their “faith” seems to be a bit weaker and they themselves have to cry, plead and beg for more finances, all the while riding around in fancy jets and automobiles and living in more than one luxurious home all to demonstrate and “prove” that God prospers His servants. This is NOT the type of prosperity the Bible is speaking of, for it is temporary and leads to wanting more at any cost! This IS the same sin as Balaam. I am just glad that I am not the judge of their souls and that ONE greater, Who can read their heart motives is. All we as followers of Jesus Christ can do, is discern by their works and their lives if they are true teachers or false! (Matthew 7:15-20).

And if you have any doubts about what I have said, consider this; many of the things that Balaam spoke were true and even beautiful, but he was still a prophet for hire, doing it for whatever he could get out of it. He couldn’t curse the men of Israel, but in defiance of God’s orders, he was successful through his speech in luring those men into sin with the daughters of Moab. (Numbers 25:1-5). Today, the message going out is basically this famous lie, “God will help those who help themselves.” This false message causes todays men to pursue riches and wealth all the while keeping their eyes on THAT goal, rather than pursuing the holiness of God!

Just like in Balaam’s day and just in confirmation of King Solomon’s statements that “there is nothing new under the sun,” today’s false teachers and prophets are suave, charismatic and convincing. They can throw in dashes of truth into there messages to lure in those who do not study or even read the Word for themselves and all to make their “kingdoms” bigger and richer and for the ego-centric attitude of being able to say, “look what I have done for the Lord!”

look at what i'm doing

I could go on and on with this subject as I have taught so much on it from the past and in Bible studies and behind the pulpit have had to correct so many falsehoods and misconceptions that some of God’s children were actually hurt by! It is no wonder, I have a bit of a sore spot for Balaam’s sin.

But let’s move on to Jude’s third example of Korah, who led a rebellion against God’s divinely appointed leaders, desiring the power and authority all to himself. (Numbers 16:1-35). These apostates and false teachers perished in that rebellion for such is the fate of all who would try to subordinate and spurn the commands of the Lord. Along with Dathan and Abiram, Korah desired the authority of the priestly office as appointed by God and rebelled not just against Aaron and Moses, but against God Himself. For this insubordination, God caused them to be swallowed up by a great earthquake and the sad part is it wasn’t just the three leaders for it was their households, servants and all their goods!

God as Israel’s Heavenly Father didn’t only justify His appointing Moses and Aaron, but also demonstrated His wrath against those who openly rebelled against Him. Here’s the thing, that was under the dispensation of the Law and judgment oftentimes was swift and severe. Today we live under the dispensation of Grace, where God’s longsuffering and compassion extend mercy to the peoples of the world. But, His Word and His commandments are no less true today. He sent Jesus Christ to be the mediator AND the Way so that we might avoid His wrath and judgment. His wrath and judgment ARE going to fall, but only if we walk around with a rebellious heart and especially those who have once tasted “the heavenly gift and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit.” (Hebrews 6:4).

These words are NOT mine, they are part, an integral part along with others of the Word of God. Man can twist them, say they mean something else, try to justify around this Word, but you cannot nor ever will be able to change the Spirit of the Word!

It is often assumed that it was the Apostle Paul who wrote Hebrews, whoever did, they wrote it again, under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit. You can debate with me all you want about the meaning and how you can’t lose what you once walked in, but walking in the Spirit is a choice and turning your back is a choice. We have some assurances, but those assurances depend on our continued obedience to the WHOLE truth of the Word and not just the parts that seem to make it easy for us. Jude felt so strong about this that he chose to write what he did instead of what he initially felt. Don’t you think we ought to look at the Word, just as strongly?

study the Word

It is long past time that we put aside the traditions and teachings of man no matter how brilliant and sincere they seemed. As men, we are ALL flawed and need to line up our thinking with the never-changing Word of God. I respect denominations for what they do, but that does NOT stop me from questioning some of their teachings in the Light of the Holy Word and it shouldn’t you either! After all, you are either followers of man and their traditions, or you are a follower of Christ Jesus! It can’t be any simpler than that.

Next post we will begin with Jude verse 12.

Our Awesome God! – 1

Part One:

So many of you that have followed my teaching know that I speak so often about becoming more intimate with our Heavenly Father. To some of you this may seem like a cliché or even some form of lost Greek! But the truth is that to be more intimate to someone you have to get to know them in a very, very personal way.

Now many of you may wonder how to get that close to our Heavenly Father Who, the Bible is clear to point out is a Spirit. But – remember this, we are made in His image AND likeness. There is a lot that can be stated concerning the image AND likeness of God and especially as it relates to us, His creation! God does have a personality and it is made up of His attributes and nature. It is those very attributes and nature that make up His character!

God is spirit wp

One of the things I like to do when I meditate is to also speculate as to possibilities. Now many would tell you that speculation is wrong, but when you direct that toward the magnificence, majesty, glory and power of the Lord, there is nothing wrong with that. In fact Paul says this, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” – Colossians 3:1-4.

Whenever you set your mind to think upon the Greatness of our Heavenly Father, you are thinking on those things that are ABOVE the fleshly, the natural. Now, the speculation that I am talking about is in actuality that which is based upon what we know to be true in the Bible, but which may not be clearly explained completely for whatever the reason the Holy Spirit didn’t feel necessary to expand upon.

For instance, an example I love and that always leads me to the Awesome Greatness of our God is what Moses first wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit! Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Now, if you want something to speculate about and meditate on, here is the granddaddy of them all! Think of it, “In the beginning God created . . .!” Now think about this, if the nature of God, our Father is eternal, He never had a beginning and He will never have an end, then why did Moses, by the inspiration of the very Spirit of God, our Father, write “in the beginning?” Think about it. Only something created by God, would have a beginning. In this instance, the Bible is recording for our information, the relationship that God, the Father has with His creation and the desires He has with and for His creation. So in essence, He is speaking to us, His creation. The Bible truly was written for us, mankind. Therefore, “In the beginning God created . . .” is speaking about what we NEED to know about OUR beginning.

Now consider this; in that process, God is revealing Himself, His nature, attributes and thus character to us, His creation! So therefore, like God, whom we are created in the image and likeness of, part of our nature is that we are also eternal. The difference is where God is eternal with no beginning, man has a beginning in God! We are still eternal, for in eternity there is no such thing as an end.

God is all-knowing wp

Now I want to focus on another aspect of God’s attributes. He is Omniscience; which literally means, All-Knowing. All-Knowing; all knowledge; possessing every bit of anything to be known or was ever known or what can and will be known! Now that blows my mind, to put it bluntly! I can’t hardly imagine that kind of knowledge and I know that nobody else can either because that is what science, and especially today is trying to fathom! Yet, faith tells me that it is true. I don’t JUST believe it, for through growth and maturity faith has transformed that belief into knowledge, into actually knowing the truth of it! There is nothing in this earth or in the heavens that could persuade me otherwise. This isn’t stubbornness, it is a by-product of a faith-built relationship with my Heavenly Father who is ALL-KNOWING!

Are you beginning to see what speculation and meditation can do? Now, I want you to consider this question: If God, whom we call Father, is omniscience; omni (all) science (knowledge) then why do Christians have such a hate relationship with Science or the study of science? Are you, my reader, aware that some of the greatest scientists in history also believed in the authority of the Bible? Are you aware that many of them did not believe science was possible with out a God of order. Someone who is not only intelligent, but orderly, wise and powerful? Now hear me out before you shut me out!

Think of this; the Bible tells us in Daniel 12:4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

The context of this passage is in relation to things that will be happening in the last days, the days before Christ Jesus, Himself shall return. In this context, we only get a glimpse, we don’t get a timeline as far as actual years or days. Well, in that context, we live in a society where many are running to and fro, in essence, the world is getting smaller due to that fact and knowledge is certainly and has been for a hundred years been on the increase and dramatically so over the past half of century! It is advancing at an almost exponential rate!

One great achievement has been with the space telescope the Hubble Space Observatory and at this time that is pretty much obsolete, but one it has taught us about the universe we live in! One of the greatest things they have proposed comes from what they call the Hubble Space Telescope Ultra Deep Field program. This is where they took images of galaxies and constellations whose light they say began toward the beginning of the universe and is only just now reaching us! Now this is where it gets touchy with some Christians and as a Holy Spirit filled Christian I have a problem understanding why this is such a touchy subject. The only explanation I can come up with is that some people’s faith is so limited that if they don’t put God in a box of their size and shape, they couldn’t cope with the knowledge God is releasing to mankind. Don’t forget, any knowledge we gain, is because God IS sovereign and has never relinquished control!

God is sovereign wp

You see, God, being omniscience is the creator of science and all the laws and principles that govern science. God is the One that established order out of chaos as Moses wrote in the Book of Genesis.

So for instance there is a law of science that we are all very familiar with; it is the law of gravity. It’s what keeps us firmly planted on this body of rock we call the earth. Without it we would all be flung into space.

This is how it is explained: Every particle attracts every other particle with a force that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the distance between them.

Now please don’t get confused by the explanation, I am really only using it as an example of something that scientists have “discovered” to help them explain why certain things take place. And this is a hard fact, not a theory. It has been PROVEN to be true. Sir Isaac Newton was the first to propose this idea.

This is an excerpt of a biography on him concerning his religious beliefs:

“Newton also wrote on Judeo-Christian prophecy, whose decipherment was essential, he thought, to the understanding of God. His book on the subject, which was reprinted well into the Victorian Age, represented lifelong study. Its message was that Christianity went astray in the 4th century AD, when the first Council of Nicaea propounded erroneous doctrines of the nature of Christ. The full extent of Newton’s unorthodoxy was recognized only in the present century: but although a critic of accepted Trinitarian dogmas and the Council of Nicaea, he possessed a deep religious sense, venerated the Bible and accepted its account of creation. In late editions of his scientific works he expressed a strong sense of God’s providential role in nature.”

Sir Isaac Newton is considered to be the “father” of the principles concerning the Law of Gravity. He had strong religious beliefs that many times put him jeopardy of his career. But, he held strong to those beliefs and is considered one of the great scientists in history.

I have said all that for this; if God is the true God and originator of science and we are His children why are we in such a hate relationship with science? Shouldn’t it be with those that are interpreting science and trying to bend the laws of truth to match their own theories? There are many areas of theoretical science that are today being taught as fact.  In other words, not all Scientists are wrong when concerning the facts of science, only in their interpretation. As an example let me use one of the greatest deceivers of all time: Charles Darwin. I am not going to argue evolution, for as far as I’m concerned, there is NO argument to support it, I am going to argue his interpretation of it and the interpretation of the scientists who twist the truth to fit their theories even today and teach it as a fact, cramming it down the throats of our children!

evolution is false wp

As Christians, shouldn’t we take the Lord’s example as well as the Apostles and “reason together?” Next part, we will tackle some of the interpretations and we will tackle some of the things that point to a relationship that our God has with science.

Next time we will take in Part Two
