The Certainty of The Lord’s Judgment

“For I, the LORD, do not change; . . .” – Malachi 3:6a.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8.

“Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.” – Psalm 119:89.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” – Matthew 24:35.

If you are a Christian, a TRUE follower of the example of Christ Jesus, then you know that God and His Word does NOT change! There should be no doubt nor debate about this fact. Yet today we find people who want to discount the Old Testament Covenant as no longer relevant nor applicable. I want you to know that first, if you choose to throw away that part of your Bible, you are throwing away any knowledge you might gain into the Character, Nature and Attributes of God Almighty, your/our Heavenly Father! I would have to ask you, “How then would you ever expect to have an intimate relationship with Him, whom you would have no knowledge of just who He is?

Jesus came to SHOW us the Father, through Himself. But He Himself stated this; “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” – Matthew 5:17-18.

If the Old Testament Covenant is not relevant then, albeit in the life and example of Jesus Christ, then I have no idea what could or would be relevant. We KNOW God intimately through the Life-lens of Christ Jesus. “He who has seen Me has seen the Father; . . .” – John 14:9b. We are able to have a relationship, a relationship based on “Spirit and Truth,” (John 4:24) thanks to the Gift that Christ Jesus bestowed upon those who are willing to accept it.

KNOWING that God’s Word, God’s Character and everything about God does not change we have to take quite seriously not just all those things we find in Scripture that deal with God’s blessings, as nice as it would seem to accept only them, but God is a Just and Holy God as well and too many living under the “state” of Grace would just as soon forget that the Bible also states, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” – 1 Peter 1:14-16.

Remember now, this was written by one of the Apostles who showed us that the New Testament Covenant of Grace was upon us and yet, here he is, reminding us that the Old Testament is STILL relevant and applicable in our lives today!

Okay, with that foundation in mind, I’m going to share some Scriptures from Ezekiel that will assuredly apply to our Nation and country today. I have heard many preachers and teachers, quote 2 Chronicles 7:14 without explaining that prayer for a Nation through the lens of Christ Jesus’ gift of grace. That prayer is still important and relevant today, but now it is relevant in the lives of individuals and not the Nations for this reason; in Israel, when the leaders sinned, the people sinned and the nation as a whole was judged according to those sins. Yet even then as I will show you in a moment, God STILL looked upon individuals as righteous and they would be spared the ultimate judgement and yet have to take part in the national judgement. You see this throughout the whole Old Testament. Because it was God’s Covenant with Israel’s people, God’s chosen children AS a nation!

Yet today, God’s children (other than Israel, who are still following the Old Covenant), from every nation and walk of life is judged individually as members of the Body of Christ, IF they are truly born-again and spiritually renewed! God STILL judges nations, but, He protects and still cares for His children even while the nations go through judgement. We may witness judgement all around us, be we ourselves escape it because of the righteousness we have gained (without merit) through the Blood and the Sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us individually! It is for this reason that I am truly afraid for our Nation, the United States of America!

Right now, we have a reprieve because God has appointed President Trump to restore the religious liberties to those of us who ARE True followers of Christ and whether he is aware of it or not, it is to give us time to get our “spiritual houses” ready for what is surely about to come. We are actually witnessing this in other allied countries as well with some of their conservative appointed leaders. If Almighty God has in His Justness judged a nation that He claims as His children because of their rebellious and sinful natures, what makes any other nation think that He won’t do the same and ESPECIALLY if that nation CLAIMS “In God We Trust?” I know it seems lately I am constantly bringing this up, but we as the TRUE Church of God in Christ Jesus NEED to be aware of what is right at our doorstep and not believe all these “preachers” who are nothing more than “motivational speakers” who are refusing to PREPARE God’s children for what is at our doorstep.

Don’t get me wrong; I believe in encouraging my Brothers and Sisters and doing what I can to inspire and instruct them as well, but PART of that instruction is teaching that God is ALWAYS true to HIS Word, ALL of His Word and not just the parts that make us feel good. Lately in my Bible reading and study, I can’t seem to get through it without breaking out in tears because I KNOW God’s Word in the past is as relevant today! I like to think that when we accepted the Lord’s invitation to come to Him, we were agreeing to be part of Heaven’s army. We weren’t drafted, Jesus didn’t force us, we volunteered with the knowledge that He then owned us just like in the natural military today. How is an army prepared to survive and combat and to take over strongholds if they are not warned about the enemy?

There’s a reason the Church is likened to God’s Warriors! Now, thinking along those lines I want to share with you what I read today in the Book of Ezekiel. In this, we see God saying exactly what I have been trying to say lately, “God’s children will be spared because of their righteousness found in Christ Jesus, but the nation will still be judged.” America’s citizens need to realize this although human nature does NOT change and many in our Nation will thumb their noses at God and state they do not NEED Him nor want Him. The past has a way of repeating itself, but the Lord ALWAYS lets His children KNOW what can and will happen!

Ezekiel 14:

12 Then this message came to me from the Lord: 13 “Son of man, suppose the people of a country were to sin against me, and I lifted my fist to crush them, cutting off their food supply and sending a famine to destroy both people and animals. 14 Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, their righteousness would save no one but themselves, says the Sovereign Lord.

15 “Or suppose I were to send wild animals to invade the country, kill the people, and make the land too desolate and dangerous to pass through. 16 As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, even if those three men were there, they wouldn’t be able to save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved, but the land would be made desolate.

17 “Or suppose I were to bring war against the land, and I sent enemy armies to destroy both people and animals. 18 As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, even if those three men were there, they wouldn’t be able to save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.

19 “Or suppose I were to pour out my fury by sending an epidemic into the land, and the disease killed people and animals alike. 20 As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, they wouldn’t be able to save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved by their righteousness. (NLT)

Isn’t it amazing that today, across the world there is outright panic because of what health officials are calling already a pandemic. When will people realize these things don’t just come out of the blue and strike at nations. Oh yes, I realize that man can be involved but I am here to tell you that NOTHING, absolutely nothing takes the Lord by surprise!

So, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in the midst of all that sin, their righteousness would only save themselves but the nation would not be saved. This is why it is so important we pray for our Nation, true, but we pray for individuals, our neighbors, our families and those we work with. A nation such as ours cannot continue killing unborn children in the name of “reproductive rights!” If you don’t want children then do what is necessary to keep from getting pregnant. Our nation cannot continue to condone that which the God in which they say they trust says homosexuality and sexual promiscuity is just a “normal” alternate way of life. It IS an alternate way of life, a SINFUL life and I’m sorry if this offends some of your sensibilities, but you cannot change the truth no matter how hard you may try or may want too. Now understand something; these sins are not new at all. Even during the times of the Apostles and the disciples, nations in the world at that time PRACTICED in those sins and God even then found them abhorrent.

Before you condemn me, remember that I DID say the actions were sinful. God STILL even in the midst of sinning, loves His creation! Don’t take my word for it; “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” – Romans 5:8-9.

Sin is sin whether it is lying, stealing, adultery, sex out of wedlock, etc. No sin in God’s eyes is greater OR lesser for that matter; for putting a degree to sin like some religious organizations do is man’s philosophy, NOT God’s truth OR Word! Yet the Apostle Paul wrote this to actually encourage us, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; . . .” – 1 Corinthians 10:13a.

But I will add this in closing; if we continue as a Nation to say that Godly principles are irrelevant and that morals are a “relative” thing depending on the person and we continue to pass laws that actually elevate sin, then do not be surprised if judgement is a lot closer than many think! God does NOT change though He if very long-suffering and patient and His Word and Words do NOT change! What He has said to one, whether in the past or recent, is the same to ALL who hear those words!

One final question; are we striving to love like God, unconditionally with our eyes upon eternity? If we are, we will be praying for one another, praying for the people of our respective nations and praying for all of leaders for their salvation that will lead them to a joyous eternity! If not, love dictates that we do.

Out In The Open

*Pastor’s Note: Here’s another one of those short articles I wrote in the late 90s for the Church section of the local newspaper where we lived in Globe, Arizona. I thought it might be of interest to my readers to see what I have taught in the past!. It’s pretty much as it was published in the Church editorial of the newspaper. The pictures were added for this posting.

Columbus kept two reckonings on his initial voyage of discovery. One showed the ship’s true progress, and this he kept secret. Another false record he left open to the crew. In the second, he showed the ship making greater headway than was actually true. Why? In order to make the crossing before supplies were depleted, they needed to cover about seven hundred leagues each day. By claiming they had sailed each day beyond the seven hundred leagues, Columbus hoped to spread enthusiasm and defeat discouragement.

Some religions jealously guard their beliefs, granting access only to a chosen few. Some divulge their doctrines like medicine, a little at a time, as the converts can accept them. They teaspoon out their doctrines, building immunity to shock until their converts will believe anything, no matter how foolish or wrong. Christianity boasts of its availability to all! Jesus revealed God’s secrets to everyone. God keeps nothing from us concerning His expectations, demands, promises, and warnings. His Word is open for inspection and investigation; it is a floodlight shining into the world so that anyone who wants to can see.

The Word of God is free to all who would only open its pages and read. In them you will find, not something to give you false enthusiasm, but as the Apostle John wrote in 1 John 5:13, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” God Bless!

Inside Your Heart . . .

Inside Your Heart . . .

From inside my mother’s womb, HE fell in love with me;
HE loved me long before I knew, before I could speak or see.

I had a calling in my life, a whisper from HIS lips;
From birth until the day I sleep, I’ve known HIS tender kiss.

I am a child of The King; a child of royalty;
Because of HIM; I now believe in what HE did for me.

The SON of GOD gave up HIS life, by HIS blood I’m redeemed,
HE paid a debt I could not pay, I’ve chosen to believe.

By faith I’m saved by HIS sweet grace, the LIGHT who guides my way,
HE led me out of Darkness; I am now a child of the day.

For GOD so loved the world HE gave, this gift to all mankind;
So take the gift HE’S offered you; or reject it and stay blind.

For whosoever does believe, receives treasures untold,
Heaven for eternity, to walk on streets of gold.

A place where wars do not exist, where every tear has dried;
Where we are loved forevermore, we in HIS heart abide.

If you do not know HIM now, a love which will not part,
In brokenness call out HIS name; as you enter HIS heart.

Boldly approach the throne of GOD, HIS Son, the ONLY WAY,
Enter through the blood HE shed, and do as HE would say.

HE hears the very tears you cry and knows your inner pain,
Call upon the Truth the LIFE; the ONE the ONLY WAY.

Inside your heart HE will abide, this promise HE holds true,
You will not be forsaken, HE will ever be with you.

Heart – Physical and Emotional

anecdotal stories
Proverbs 4:23, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.”

Luke 6:45, “The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.”

Our Own Pump

The human heart, less than a pound when fully grown and only a little larger than our fist, beats seventy-two times a minute, one hundred thousand times a day, forty million times a year. Each day it pumps the equivalent of 1,800 gallons of blood weighing six tons through more than sixty thousand miles of our circulation system.

Sometimes when people have negative experiences, especially in their early years, they veneer their soul with repeated layers of hardness to keep from being hurt. This only prolongs their problem. They become irascible, isolationist, and difficult. Their reactions are brittle, not pliable. Everything they experience hits and bounces away, because the toughness they have painted on keeps them from being healed. All those layers of hardness have to be peeled away. God’s forgiveness will give us an inner strength and toughness, but not until we eliminate the hardness we have painted on. God would have us tough inside our hearts, not outside. That inner toughness keeps us cheerful in adversity, peaceful in turmoil, and optimistic in discipleship. It accepts even the harm that life offers and transforms it into benefactions.

Fire – Blaise Pascal

I was looking for a quote on the heart from some of our past great teachers and I found this quote in my Bible software and then got a bit interested in the man who said it. Following the quote is a little bit of interesting trivia and the links to more if you are interested!

There is a God-created vacuum in the heart of every man, which cannot be satisfied by any created thing, but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ. – Blaise Pascal

Blaise Pascal (June 19, 1623 – August 19, 1662) was a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and Catholic theologian. He was a child prodigy who was educated by his father, a tax collector in Rouen. From the age of 16 he made historic contributions to mathematics and the physical sciences. Despite a sickly constitution and a capacity for intense abstraction, he nonetheless oversaw the material construction of his experiments and inventions with great zest.

Pascal’s earliest work was in the natural and applied sciences, where he made important contributions to the study of fluids, and clarified the concepts of pressure and vacuum by generalizing the work of Evangelista Torricelli. Pascal also wrote in defense of the scientific method. He believed science and faith could co-exist.

Following a religious experience in late 1654, he began writing influential works on philosophy and theology. Pascal was barely past 30 when he saw something unexpected one raw November night. He saw fire. The vision so branded him that he sewed the record he made of it, his “Memorial,” into his coat, carrying it with him the rest of his life:

The year of grace 1654,

Monday, 23 November, feast of St. Clement, pope and martyr, and others in the martyrology. Vigil of St. Chrysogonus, martyr, and others. From about half past ten at night until about half past midnight,

FIRE.

GOD of Abraham, GOD of Isaac, GOD of Jacob, not of the philosophers and of the learned. Certitude. Certitude. Feeling. Joy. Peace. GOD of Jesus Christ. My God and your God. Your GOD will be my God. Forgetfulness of the world and of everything, except GOD. He is only found by the ways taught in the Gospel. Grandeur of the human soul. Righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you. Joy, joy, joy, tears of joy.

I have departed from him: They have forsaken me, the fount of living water. My God, will you leave me? Let me not be separated from him forever. This is eternal life, that they know you, the one true God, and the one that you sent, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ. I left him; I fled him, renounced, crucified. Let me never be separated from him. He is only kept securely by the ways taught in the Gospel: Renunciation, total and sweet. Complete submission to Jesus Christ and to my director. Eternally in joy for a day’s exercise on the earth. May I not forget your words. Amen.

Know My Heart – Psalm 139

“You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.”

“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.”

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
~ Psalm 139:5-10, 17-18, 23-24 ~

A Love Story

John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

John 15:12-13, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

I was going to write something else today, something that had been heavy on my heart, then at the last minute decided to write this. Hey, it’s my 48th anniversary today, so I figure I have a right! Besides, it may not be what you think.

I’ve known my wife over 50 years now. I met her in High School through her brother, a close friend of mine and the one who eventually led me to the Lord. But it didn’t start out that way. You see, I was a religious kid with a mind full of questions about God and the church (the church I was going too) and all the sacraments and the saints, so forth and so on. I met Ron, Sue’s brother one day in a study hall when he was talking to another kid about the “religion” this other kid was involved in.

Hey, here was someone else who loved to talk about “religion!” During a break from his conversation with this other young man I interjected myself with a “religious” question and quick to answer, Ron gave me a Scripture verse. I don’t even remember it now as over the next year I had so many questions and conversations with him. It was through this exchange that I was introduced to his sister. At the time (I was a late bloomer) I was just starting to get interested in girls in my class and his sister was a grade behind Ron and I.

As the year progressed in High School, his sister would show up when he had a free period and it was more than once I noticed her notebook with my name scrawled all over it. Of course I went to Ron and told him and he just advised me to just let things take its course. Of course it wasn’t until much, much later and AFTER High School that I found out he had been telling his sister that she had no business following after me as I wasn’t a Christian at that time!

Eventually though in my senior year, right before graduation and a couple of months before my 17th birthday, Ron gave me a Scripture that opened my eyes and changed my life; “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, . .” – 1 Timothy 2:3-5. It was verse 5 that truly stuck with me. After a couple of weeks, his church, a small Pentecostal Church of God, was having a special youth night and Ron invited me. That night after hearing the sermon from the guest preacher, I answered the altar call and gave my heart to the Lord. It was a night I will never forget. Things at home were not the best, I was just about ready to graduate High School and though my dad let me go to this other church one time, when I told him what happened and I wanted to go back, he blew up! I was born and raised in a church and that is the church I would go too. Sadly, my dad never attended that very church, for he left it to my step-mom to take care of our religious upbringing.

Anyway after a while, I actually started going out with Ron’s sister, though not before sitting in the little church with some of the other girls. I was NOT very bright at all back then. But I learned and grew. It was however a far different experience for me from the church I had grown up in and had actually been a fairly big part of. Needless to say, my beginnings in that little Pentecostal church were rocky and just after my seventeenth birthday I ended up moving in with another relative because my day made it impossible to go to church while living in “his” house. That was one of my first great “hurdles” in trying to live a Christian life.

I was very backward and introverted back then but I was going out with Ron’s sister pretty regularly and after a couple of years we got married. That in itself is another story and one that was also another “hurdle” in our/my Christian walk. But Sue truly loved me. She actually told me that back in High School the Lord had shown her that she was going to marry me!

Anyway, as I stated earlier, I came from a very different background altogether and though I loved Sue, I made newly married life a “pain” for her. (I’m being polite for my sensitive readers!). I was learning this time about the Bible and I was very keen on learning everything I could, but my background also did not prepare me for the onslaught the enemy would throw at anybody who is young and new in the Lord. For some reason, that was NOT a part of my early Christian teaching.

I will admit that I had a LOT of fitful starts and stops over the next few years, some might in Pentecostal and Charismatic circles today call it backsliding! Because the Bible tells us emphatically, “For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5a, I’d like to think that I was a spoiled petulant child of the Lords, rebelling because things didn’t go the way I thought they should or I liked. Whatever the term you use, the Lord never gave up on me and though I was disciplined and chastised, He ALWAYS forgave me; even and especially during a very bad time in my life when I got involved in sinfulness that shamed my family, church and friends. It was nothing to do with any kind of infidelity, but it was horrific for those who knew me.

It was not a good testimony of what Christianity was supposed to be an example of. Yet, and I have to repeat, YET, my wife never gave up on me and though the Lord used that to lead us elsewhere, (and she willingly followed) He led us to a place of total forgiveness AND mentorship under one of the best Pastors I have ever had the privilege to work with. It was there that I truly started to actually see, not just in an intellectual way, but in a truly spiritual way, the true love of the Lord as described in His Living Word!

As I was learning the spiritual significance of TRUE Love and forgiveness, the Lord was even then showing me the kind of love that my wife was demonstrating though at times there is no way she could have “FELT” it. She took our vows very seriously and I started to realize I had been the one neglecting to actually demonstrate true love towards her, because she was also the one, for the most part, that cared for the spiritual needs of our family. I had, as of yet, not taken my responsible place of Priesthood over our family.

Again, her true love for me came into play, for though it was hard (at times) to relinquish that responsibility I had burdened her with for so long, she did allow me to walk in that responsibility and she supported me all the way. I learned through all those times that we truly ARE One in the Lord and when He brings two people together, it is for their good and the good of the Body of Christ. People who have looked at our relationship in the past have not seen the support she has given me in making important decisions but they also have not seen the trust I have had in her leading of the Holy Spirit either. It has brought up some interesting discussions with our peers over the years!

Through all these learning times and steps we have taken to follow after the Lord with our whole being, it has truly created a oneness in us that is a shadow of what I am sure is to be a Oneness with the Lord between His Bride, the Church and Christ Jesus, the Bridegroom.

Most of those “hurdles” from the past don’t even phase us anymore and about the only things we have to comfort one another in, is our family and our health for we truly have become more One than most can imagine as our love, even to this day continues to grow and only because of our Love for the Lord has been first and foremost and has made it happen.

If you are fortunate enough to have a TRUE soul-mate like that, you too are then able to catch a glimpse, maybe an “iceberg’s glimpse,” but still a glimpse of what TRUE Agape with the Lord and with one another can actually be like.

The Lord did not create us in His likeness without the necessary abilities to be able to, at least in part, do the very things He asks and commands us to do. We CAN love one another because He DID first love us and imparted His Spirit into us that allows and enables us too, but besides the greatness of that alone, He also blesses us with experiences of ACTUAL love that are real and demonstrable to ourselves and to others!

When the time comes for the Lord to call me home to Him, it will be with at least a partial knowledge of what TRUE Agape is meant to be because of the Loving woman and blessing He gave me all those years ago in this life!

I told Sue earlier, the Lord must have seen something in me at a young age, as He does with all of His children, but knew that I needed someone who would stick by me, encourage me to follow the Lord, and then to allow me to do just that so that I could be the person that the Holy Spirit wants me to be! Love does that; Love HAS done that! She gave her life for me and I can’t love her enough in return! So it is with us and the Lord Jesus Christ!

I John 4:19-21

1 John 4:19-21, “We love Him because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.”

We left the last lesson with the understanding that God’s perfect love for each of us individually casts down any type of fear or dread of eternal punishment. For if you ARE a child of His, then His love does NOT cause dread nor fear, but should produce an AWE of God’s splendor and majesty in and of itself.

John now establishes the foundation of that love, both in us and towards others; God is the first to have shown or demonstrated love. Because He loved us first, we are thus able to love Him AND one another. Our very ability to love comes from the fact that He loved us by His actions first, in the form of sending His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to not just die for our sins, while we were still unlovely and unlovable, but by sending us His Holy Spirit that empowers us with the same Spirit as Him and thus enabling us with he power to love as God, unconditionally!

If you remember, the Ten Commandments tells us to love God with everything we have and we are, AND to love one another as ourselves. But the Commandments couldn’t produce that love within us, it could only show us our need of that ability within our lives if we were to Covenant with God Almighty, our Heavenly Father. What Jesus did, coming to earth in the form of man, being All-man, yet at the same time, being All-divine, He gave us that ability to relate, once again, intimately with God, our Father, because He, Christ Jesus, accepted all of our sins which prevented us from coming into the Father’s presence. With that “veil” torn aside, we are now able too, THROUGH Christ Jesus enter into that relationship which Jesus continually claimed was His mission, to “show us the Father.” (John 14:8-11). We are now, cleansed by the Blood of Jesus, able to come boldly before the Father’s Throne! (Hebrews 4:16).

With the Holy Spirit sent to empower us with the same Spirit as Christ Jesus, we are able to fulfill that commission. Another thing to remember and consider, the Holy Spirit IS as an anointing fire, enabling us to accomplish His goals with power and authority. We are reminded this in the Gospel of Luke, “John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” – Luke 3:16. The fire described here is in reference to an “anointing” and it shouldn’t be a surprise for the very reason that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ Jesus sent to abide in each and everyone who accepts Christ’s gift of sacrifice into their lives. As “Christians,” with Christ Jesus as our prime example, we share that same anointing when His Spirit abides in us. Remember, the term Christ is NOT Jesus’ last name, but it means “Anointed One.” As Christians, true followers of Christ Jesus, with the Holy Spirit abiding in the lives of every believer, we become “anointed ones” in the likeness and example of Christ; or at the very least I have to say, we should exemplify that!

That same anointing fire is like a flame fanned and igniting God’s love in us as well as catching “fire” in others we come into contact with. The early church, when it was becoming established due to the Apostle’s and Disciple’s teachings became known as a “movement” because of the love, the actions that each member took towards one another, and that is what made it stand out from other “religions.” Now with saying that, I truly have to ask this question; do we as a Body of Christ, stand out in that regard? Do our denominations and religious organizations that take the claim that they are “Christians” stand out in that regard? I say this for us to be introspective and to analyze our own self-motives.

I can say this; since the Body of Christ is made up of members from all walks of life and denominations, we can see when the Body of Christ itself has an impact on the communities around them and no denomination or organization can claim that fact. Remember, just because someone belongs to a denomination or religious organization that “identifies” with Christ, does not mean that everyone within those organizations are true followers of Christ Jesus. We live in a day and age when to the world thinking, it is important what you “identify” with, whether you truly are what you “identify” with or not. An example I’ve heard many times, “I may spend a lot of time in my garage, that doesn’t make me an automobile!” You may spend a lot of time in a church building, that isn’t what makes you a “Christian!” That is why self-examination is so very important. I will tell you this, if you ARE a follower of Christ Jesus and His example, then He abides in you and you abide in Him as previous verses in 1 John have stated, AND you WILL love others as the Scriptures command!

This leads us directly into the next verse; “If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar;.” Pretty strong words from an Apostle of Love as John is often called! Flat out, he’s a liar! No and, ifs or buts about it. This reminds me of a meme that you see all over the social media platforms that even I have used as I love the truth of it so much, “The truth is still the truth, even if nobody believes it, and a lie is still a lie, even if everyone believes it.” The world loves to say that “truth is relative.” In other-words, depending on your perspective it could be the truth or not. That is utter nonsense for the truth is based on a foundation of absolute!

Now forgive me for delving into this next scenario, but I have to point it out or I would be terribly remiss in my teaching. If you watch television of any amount, or you scan the social media platforms, you will constantly see, especially in the political arena people stating, “I don’t hate anybody, I’m a “Christian” or in some cases, I’m a church-goer as if that makes them a “Christian.” I pray for “those” people all the time.” And yet, AND YET, the things they do in front of the camera are some of the most despicable things, such as lying, deceiving and manipulating others to get what they want, no matter the cost to the people that have actually hired them and pay their salary. You all know what I mean and it doesn’t just happen in this Nation but we see it almost everywhere!

How, pray tell me, can you SAY you love God Almighty, the Creator of all and still ACT so hateful? And no, I am not talking about simple disagreements; I am talking about acts of disrespect literally trying to destroy one another personally. Which leads me to another question I want you to think on; just exactly WHO is your brother?

You know I’m going to tell you but first, let me lay the foundation. Our God, is considered by those who love Him, our Heavenly Father; why? Because, He CREATED us! He created all of us who inhabit this world, this planet we call Earth. That means, that if we are ALL creations of His, then we are also brothers and sisters of humankind or “neighbors!” Now the Apostle John in this verse IS actually referring to those who abide in Christ together when he mentions the term brother, but I want you to consider this in the light of those who SAY they are a “Christian” and yet display anything but an example of Christ Jesus!

If someone is a brother (or sister for that matter) then don’t they also have the same Spirit of Christ abiding in them? The same ability to love as empowered by the Holy Spirit as you who says you are a Christian? Just something to think about. If we truly DO love God, then wouldn’t we love God in one another? You know, it’s easy to SAY we love someone when that love doesn’t cost anything! Something to ponder.

I love how John proposes the truth of calling someone a liar when they say they love God yet they don’t show it to those whom also live by the Spirit of Christ. “For he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” Personally I think it is a perfectly reasonable question. John recorded a situation when the Jews were trying to kill Jesus because of the truths He spoke and they refused to listen to Him. Now mind you, Jesus stated He was from God thus they should trust Him. “Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.” – John 8:42. Even when God was standing in front of them, they did not recognize Him, by His words OR His actions!

The Beloved Apostle is probably hearkening back to times like that when he was in the presence of Jesus. How can you say you love God when you surely haven’t seen Him, because the Scriptures state that no man has seen God? (Except the One who was with Him in the beginning, John 1:18). So, though the Spirit of God is abiding IN your brothers and sisters, yet you act in hate (selfishness and self-centeredness), you still say you LOVE God whom you haven’t seen and yet those standing before you, you revile! The Apostle truly knew how to put the truth in front of the readers so that no one could deny that TRUTH!

I read an example given some time ago about the love of the Lord towards others and I thought is was a pretty good analogy, though no analogy is perfect when comparing natural things to spiritual. But as I remember it, the person said to imagine a bicycle wheel with spokes. At the rim of the wheel, the spokes are further apart, but as you get closer to the center hub, which they said could represent God, the closer the spokes got together. Now imagine the spokes are God’s creation or His children. The closer they get to God, the closer they get to one another and in that closeness, the stability of the WHOLE wheel is maintained.

I can see that representing the Body of Christ. Each spoke is the individual members of that Body (the whole wheel) and some spokes even overlap. But as we get closer to God, the center of all that we are and is to be, the closer we also get to one another, thus forming a strong support to the whole Body of Christ. If any of the spokes were missing or weren’t performing according to where they were placed it would weaken the whole wheel and if many didn’t perform, you really wouldn’t have what could be considered a wheel. It couldn’t support any weight! If anyone has ever tinkered with a bike’s wheels and have had to replace spokes or just took a wheel apart, you will remember that individually the spokes are easy to bend and misshapen and when that happens you cannot reuse them.

As brothers and sisters we are very much like that. I NEED each of you in your position and you NEED me. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise for that is a lie and a deception. It can only make us as a TRUE Church of God, the Body of Christ that much weaker if each isn’t where they belong. It’s like I have tried to do from the very beginning of my online endeavors back in the later 90s; I’ve recognized the possibilities and importance of my brothers and sisters online sharing their gifts no matter how “small” each of you think they are. Through online media, we HAVE been able to reach parts of the world we could only have imagined back in the 80s. To say that each of you has been created and born for this time in history would be a major understatement! THAT is why I do all I can to encourage my brothers and sisters with online service to your brothers and sisters. I have some who only post Scriptures on a daily basis. They search their Bibles for something that sticks out to them and in their minds, it doesn’t amount to very much in the way of ministry (service). Oh I beg to differ with them and I do quite often for we ALL need that encouragement that the various Scriptures give and the edification it brings to the Body of Christ!

John closes this section with a repeat of the COMMANDMENT of Jesus, “that he who loves God must love his brother also.” In the New King James version of the Bible the word MUST is italicized to show the emphasis that was put in the original Greek. In the New American Standard version, it says SHOULD, again to emphasize the importance of loving our brothers and sisters. It is NOT a suggestion, but rather comes across very strongly as a command! As a born-again believer who has been spiritually reborn and renewed it only stands to reason that since God IS Love and He DID love us first, and He dwells within each of us as we dwell IN Him, that we should love for another for the Spirit of Him who loved us first dwells within my brother and sister!

Keeping the thought of love being an action, how do YOU love your brothers and sisters? We can’t possibly meet everyone we friend or acquaint with online, but we most certainly CAN pray for each other AND encourage and inspire one another with the gifts the Holy Spirit has bestowed on each of us!

Next post we will begin with 1 John chapter 5.

Are We In The Last Days?

*Pastor’s Note: This is another short article I wrote in the late 90s along with some others for the Church section of the local newspaper where we lived in Globe, Arizona. I thought it might interest my readers and I HAVE updated some of the Scriptures references. All in all, it is pretty much as it was published in the Church editorial of the newspaper. The pictures were added for this posting.

I have seen as I’m sure most of you have, the Hollywood movies “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon” and I’ll tell you, they have really touched a nerve in the American people today. It has gotten a lot of people asking if we are living in the last days of civilization as we know it.

With this question in mind, I would like to share with you some familiar scriptures. As you read them, consider how they line up with current global news. In Matthew 24:4-14, “Jesus is speaking to a few of His disciples, “And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”

This may not be happening all together in the U.S., but it is in one form or another, taking place throughout various parts of the world. Why is this important to us as Christians? Here are some familiar, yet important Scriptures to answer that question:

Proverbs 18:15, “The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

Proverbs 24:5-6, “A wise man is strong, Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.”

These scriptures are pretty well self-explanatory. To face what is coming, we need to be wise spiritually as well as knowledgeable.

Our heavenly Father could have allowed us to enter this time period blind, but His awesome love and graciousness allows us to recognize just how close we are to the time that His Son, Jesus Christ, is to coming to collect His bride, the church.

Revelation 1:3, “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.”

May You Have The Spirit of Wisdom

“(I) do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power” – Ephesians 1:16-19.

Praising My Lord

Praising My Lord

With all of my heart, I’ll sing
A new song of praise to You.
With all of my soul, I’ll praise
Your undying love, ever true.

With all of my heart, I’ll sing
Of my love that grows and grows,
For You are the Light of my life,
My cup with joy continually flows.

I will sing with all of my heart
My soul will sing songs of praise,
For You are the beginning and end
Of each and every one of my days.

With all of my soul, I’ll sing
Of Your love that remains the same.
My heart and soul will forever sing,
Praises to Your Holy Name.

Rejoice In Sufferings – Oswald Chambers

Oswald Chambers (July 24, 1874 – November 15, 1917) was an early-twentieth-century Scottish Baptist and Holiness Movement evangelist and teacher, best known for the devotional “My Utmost for His Highest.” Even as a teenager, Chambers was noted for his deep spirituality, and he participated in the evangelization of poor occupants of local lodging houses. At the same time, Chambers also demonstrated gifts in both music and art. While at Edinburgh, he felt called to ministry, and he left for Dunoon College, a small theological training school near Glasgow, founded by the Rev. Duncan MacGregor. Chambers was soon teaching classes at the school and took over much of the administration when MacGregor was injured in 1898.

1 Peter 4:13, “But rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.”

Rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings.

If you are going to be used by God, He will take you through a multitude of experiences that are not meant for you at all; they are meant to make you useful in His hands, and to enable you to understand what transpires in other souls so that you will never be surprised at what you come across. “Oh, I can’t deal with that person.” Why not? God gave you ample opportunity to soak before Him on that line, and you “barged off” because it seemed stupid to spend time in that way.

The sufferings of Christ are not those of ordinary men. He suffered “according to the will of God,” not from the point of view we suffer from as individuals. It is only when we are related to Jesus Christ that we can understand what God is after in His dealings with us. It is part of Christian culture to know what God’s aim is.

In the history of the Christian Church the tendency has been to evade being identified with the sufferings of Jesus Christ; men have sought to procure the carrying out of God’s order by a short cut of their own. God’s way is always the way of suffering, the way of the “long, long trail.”

Are we partakers of Christ’s sufferings?

Are we prepared for God to stamp our personal ambitions right out? Are we prepared for God to destroy by transfiguration our individual determinations? It will not mean that we know exactly why God is taking us that way; that would make us spiritual prigs.

We never realize at the time what God is putting us through; we go through it more or less mis-understandingly; then we come to a luminous place, and say — “Why, God has girded me, though I did not know it!

Godly Expectancy

This is the latest article on prayer from Brother-in-Christ and Minister, Dave Peever. I have reposted a couple of his other articles on prayer and this one is just as inspired and instructive. If you have questions about prayer and going having communion with our Heavenly Father, each of these are instructional in their own right. The previous two articles in his series were, Sleight of Hand – While You Were Looking Somewhere Else, AND Are You Praying Right? You can click on the links if you desire to recheck them out.

Also, Brother Dave has an awesome ability to take everyday things and illuminate them with spiritual light in a way that is intriguing but also delightful and sometimes humorous. I will tell you this, he ALWAYS causes you to think in new ways! Visit his site for more great articles.

J David Peever (Dave)'s avatarlive4him.ca

You just seem stuck, going nowhere, caught in a low point of your life with no end in sight. You worked out a plan accounting for all the different moving parts. You saw potential, you saw opportunity, you saw a way to address your current dilemma and create an acceptable outcome, but still you are left asking God why He hasn’t shown up, why He hasn’t answered you when you called out to Him.

Wisdom Calls For a Hearing

Proverbs 8:1-36

1-9, Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads. By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud, “I call to you, to all of you! I raise my voice to all people. You simple people, use good judgment. You foolish people, show some understanding. Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you. Everything I say is right, for I speak the truth and detest every kind of deception. My advice is wholesome. There is nothing devious or crooked in it. My words are plain to anyone with understanding, clear to those with knowledge.”

10-11, “Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.”

12-16, “I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine. Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments.”

17-21, “I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me. I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice. My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries.”

22-26, “The Lord formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else. I was appointed in ages past, at the very first, before the earth began. I was born before the oceans were created, before the springs bubbled forth their waters. Before the mountains were formed, before the hills, I was born — before he had made the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil.”

27-31, “I was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the horizon on the oceans. I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established springs deep in the earth. I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth’s foundations, I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence. And how happy I was with the world he created; how I rejoiced with the human family!”

32-33, “And so, my children, listen to me, for all who follow my ways are joyful. Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don’t ignore it.”

34-36, “Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. But those who miss me injure themselves. All who hate me love death.”

Preach, Teach The Whole Word of God

pastor's desk header
Was relaxing this afternoon for a bit and praying and a thought came to me and I truly believe the Lord gave this to me for those involved in any of the five-fold ministry, which of course deals with teaching the Word of God to one degree or another. Oh yeah, and if you happen to be one who doesn’t believe the five-fold ministry is for today and some of those ministries CEASED when the church was established and then no longer needed, then this is DEFINITELY for you!

When the government wants to keep its people blind to certain facts, mainly due to their theories that the “common man” isn’t intelligent enough, they put out pages of material that SHOULD be, for the most part available to whomever asks to see them. These documents come with what is known as redactions. Parts are blacked out in the areas that the wise, benevolent government deems are too much information for the lowly “common man,” you know the ones paying THEIR salaries. Below you will find an example of what I mean.

Well, by the same token I realize that many in the “teaching” ministries have a tendency of doing the same thing. You see, we have this Book called the Bible with at least 66 Books that are approved Canon by the mainstream denominations. To many “common folk” the words within these pages are steadfast and true and have stood the test of time for literal centuries. They ARE recognized as Divinely Inspired by the Holy Spirit working on the hearts of the various authors. In other words, they are God’s Words given to mankind by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

In the last couple of centuries we have had doctrines develop such as Cessationism which came about largely in part because of the Roman Catholic churches claims of miracles. Now I am not going to put my God in a box and say miracles didn’t happen, but some “brilliant” theologians came up with the idea that once the Church was established after the circumstances recorded in the Book of Acts (Actually The Acts of the Apostles), the gifts of the Spirit and the majority of ministries were all combined into the teaching, preaching and evangelistic ministries. Now this is an explanation in a nut-shell, you can look up the debate between Cessationism vs Continuationism on Bing or Google if you so desire.

All I KNOW is that the inspiration and working of the Holy Spirit in lives did not stop when the early church formed. If it did, the Lord would have instructed the inspired Apostles to STATE that fact emphatically so we wouldn’t be misled as the Body of Christ. But as we know, the Holy Spirit still indwells the born-again, spiritually reborn believer even today when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Redeemer. Jesus Himself promised He would be given to all who accept Him so that we could do greater (at least in number) deeds than He did. Why can that be? Because Jesus was One Man, divine for sure, but He was only able to go where His feet led Him so that He could experience what we do. The Holy Spirit, His Spirit abiding in each of us, has all of us, if surrendered to Him, available to be the vessels He wants us to be.

Without the Holy Spirit’s continued work, denominations wouldn’t be able to fight over the inspiration of the King James Bible because it came so much later AFTER the Church was founded. Preacher, Teachers and the Evangelists would have to rely upon their own knowledge and study to expound the Word of God which is still unchanging and STILL Living today! Now I could go on and on, including commenting on the state of many denominational churches today who have taught that the Holy Spirit and His gifts have ceased. But since the Bible WAS written during that time of Holy Spirit inspiration I will just say this; unless we all learned Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek we would all be in dire straits when it comes to “studying to show ourselves approved before God!”

Now I tend to look at my Bible as a Whole and as the years have gone by I have learned a lot about that Divinely Inspired Book and I am still learning as I shared with some Brothers and Sisters with other websites just today! If I didn’t believe what was written within the context of the WHOLE Book, I would have to tear out whole sections and especially in the New Testament. My Bible MIGHT still have 66 Books but it would be awfully thin in comparison. I for one am NOT going to let another “religion” or denomination, no matter how large it is world-wide cause me to fear what I may not understand 100% just yet! I will take it on faith and allow the Holy Spirit whom I STILL rely on for inspiration to lead me, guide me and counsel me as promised by my Redeemer! You see, I’m hoping that the “same spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead, will also quicken my mortal body” eventually as the Apostle Paul assured us would happen. That might be a bit impossible if He ceased His workings in this age. Of course Paul gave us a lot of other writings on how the TRUE Church, the Body of Christ should conduct itself in the regards to edifying and building up one another. But, those pages might only be historical and not divinely inspired as some tend to believe.

Oh by the way, I know there is a lot of controversy over the five-fold ministry because so many do not like self-proclaimed Apostles and Prophets to go along with their Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers. Personally, I let the Holy Spirit decide that because in five decades of doing ALL sorts of ministry service (redundant phrase I know) I have realized that when it comes to serving the Lord and one another, “we are what we do” and not what someone tells us we are. The title just helps us out in this world system, but in the TRUE Church, the Body of Christ, titles don’t mean beans, only surrendered service does.

I give you a sample below of a page from the Bible and how it might be taught as redacted by some “teachers and pastors” in the churches today. It’s just an example. If you listen to preaching long enough from various teachers, preachers you would have a real idea of just how THIN their Bibles might be.

Now one final thought before you choose to stone me; I love my Brothers and Sisters in Christ dearly and sincerely. Many things that are taught differently that does not effect our salvation or our walk with the Lord is not worth squabbling over, not even a little for that is when the Apostle Paul stated “he only knows/preaches Christ and Him Crucified.” You see, salvation is eternal, some of the other things we fret about will be taken care of when we step over that threshold into eternity. In the meantime, I will continue to respect, for the most part, those denominations that still preach and teach “the Cross of Christ and Him crucified,” but those who choose to enable and condone sinful behavior and lifestyles in the twisted name of “love,” don’t expect me to applaud them, but rather I will be in the forefront reminding them of Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, Daniel and Zephaniah as well as others. God’s Word, as stated before does NOT change and neither does our God Almighty, Heavenly Father to many of us!

One final thought thanks to a post I saw on Facebook by a Brother in Christ, a TRUE Evangelist, Steven Ray Ferguson, “the Bible isn’t full of holes; don’t teach from it as if it were” and what I like to tell people, “the Bible is not a restaurant menu of which you can pick and choose what you want and discard or ignore what you don’t like.”

Now, sincerely, if I have offended you, I’m sorry for that isn’t my intent, but just maybe you CAN take it up with the Lord in prayer! God Bless!

Come Meet The Man

Come Meet The Man

Come; meet the man that I met at the well,
Where He came from, I could not tell,
He gave me some water that was food for my soul,
My life has new meaning; I now reach for that goal,

He put my feet upon a rock,
I am covered in His blood,
This man, His name is Jesus,
Sometimes misunderstood,

He is always there beside you,
To catch you when you fall,
He showers you with endless love,
He shows up whenever you call,

Since that day when I met Jesus,
My life has changed so much,
He always wants to please us,
To give a tender touch,

So, my friends, if you pass by that well,
One day I know, you will see,
That you can also drink that water,
Just the same as me.

Are You Thirsty?

As Christians we are all familiar with the phrase “Living Water” but how many of us have really given it any thought?

Water is, of course, life giving. We as humans need it to survive, but just for a bit; I want you to also think about spiritual health. Many of you know that in your drinking water, there are tiny microbes and bacteria. Most are harmless and your body just absorbs them, without you even knowing it. That’s not the living water I’m talking about.

Physicians and nutritionists tell us that we should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day under normal conditions just to stay healthy. But what about your spiritual health? We all know the familiar story of what Jesus told the woman at the well, “Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” – John 4:10. Later John recorded this statement from Jesus, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” – John 7:38. Have you ever wondered how it gets there in the first place so that it might flow out? The next verse tells us; “But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” – John 7:39.

In the physical world, when you are thirsty you turn on a faucet, or take a drink from a stream, etc. In the spiritual realm you get it by turning to the source of Living Water, and the only source is Jesus Christ. Jesus was not making false claims when He said that He was the source, or fountain, of Living Water. Later in John’s Gospel, Jesus told some of the gathered Jews, “I and My Father are one.” – John 10:30. Early on in the Book of Jeremiah, the Lord is speaking to the families of Israel; “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns – broken cisterns that can hold no water.” – Jeremiah 2:13. Farther along Jeremiah cries out, “O LORD, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. “Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the LORD, The fountain of living waters.” – Jeremiah 17:13. That’s why the Beloved Apostle recorded Jesus crying out saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” – John 7:37.

As we commune with Him, (pray), and read His word, and as we practice loving one another, then we abide in Him and He in us, “By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” – 1 John 4:13-16. Imagine! He abides in us. The source of the Living Water, in us! As we continue to drink it in, we actually develop an overflow. The real life giving properties of this spiritual water is in the giving of it to one another, just as our prime example, Jesus Christ, wanted to do for the woman at the well. Springs of Living Water that flow out that others may also drink from.

The Prophet Isaiah said it this way in Isaiah 58: 11, “The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

People love to be in and around a garden that is well cared for and lush, not one that is dead and dried up, and so it is with each of us. We live in a dead and dying world, surrounded by people who are looking to quench their thirst. We are in the last days. All you have to do is turn on the news and it becomes obvious that the prophecies of the Bible are coming to past so much quicker as each day goes by. This is why it is so important to allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with His Living Water. People around us will feel comfortable and at ease, as well as desire what it is that they see in us. It puts me in mind of a commercial I once saw for a soft drink. As a person popped open this can of soda, everyone around them started to thirst for it. So it is with the Lord’s Living Water. They may not know why at first, but soon they want that which we have.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24 and Philippians 3:14, Paul likens our Christian experience to a race. We all know that the kind of physical exertion required in a race demands plenty of water intake lest we dehydrate. So it is, and much more so in the spiritual realm. To keep running this Christian race, we need to keep drawing from the Fountain of Living Water.

Yes, it is an ongoing process; we have to drink our 8-10 spiritual glasses of Living Water daily, under normal conditions, to stay and grow spiritually healthy. As we do, we can then direct others to the Fountain – Jesus Christ.

Peace and Grace to all who abide in Christ Jesus.

False Prophecies and False Prophets

prophetic words header wp
The more I read Jeremiah, the more I recognize the fact that it is not just historical but supremely prophetic and I don’t just mean in parts. It is almost a mirror of what we see in our country and Nation today and it is sad to say and at the same time it is extremely heart-breaking. But God IS merciful as well as just and He will never leave nor forsake those that are truly His even if a Nation has to be judged. (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5). We truly need to pray for all of our leadership but not just for wisdom and guidance, we truly need to ask the Lord to intercede and cause their spiritual eyes to be opened for they appear to be “the blind leading the blind,” and we all know where that leads.

To the religious leaders, all I can say is you have enjoyed your prosperity, riches and health at the expense of the sheep you were meant to care for and nurture and yet you have hoarded them and penned them in feeding them what you deem appropriate while the greenest pastures and purest waters were just within reach. Jeremiah’s warnings and words from God Almighty are as much for you and in fact all of us called into different areas of ministry! The Bridegroom is coming for a SPOTLESS Bride (Church) without blemish. Today is the time to repent, today is the day of Salvation; do NOT wait!

Jeremiah 23:

The Righteous Descendant

1 “What sorrow awaits the leaders of my people—the shepherds of my sheep—for they have destroyed and scattered the very ones they were expected to care for,” says the Lord.

2 Therefore, this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to these shepherds: “Instead of caring for my flock and leading them to safety, you have deserted them and driven them to destruction. Now I will pour out judgment on you for the evil you have done to them. 3 But I will gather together the remnant of my flock from the countries where I have driven them. I will bring them back to their own sheepfold, and they will be fruitful and increase in number. 4 Then I will appoint responsible shepherds who will care for them, and they will never be afraid again. Not a single one will be lost or missing. I, the Lord, have spoken!

5 “For the time is coming,”
says the Lord,
“when I will raise up a righteous descendant
from King David’s line.
He will be a King who rules with wisdom.
He will do what is just and right throughout the land.
6 And this will be his name:
‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’
In that day Judah will be saved,
and Israel will live in safety.

Judgment on False Prophets

9 My heart is broken because of the false prophets,
and my bones tremble.
I stagger like a drunkard,
like someone overcome by wine,
because of the holy words
the Lord has spoken against them.
10 For the land is full of adultery,
and it lies under a curse.
The land itself is in mourning—
its wilderness pastures are dried up.
For they all do evil
and abuse what power they have.

11 “Even the priests and prophets
are ungodly, wicked men.
I have seen their despicable acts
right here in my own Temple,”
says the Lord.
12 “Therefore, the paths they take
will become slippery.
They will be chased through the dark,
and there they will fall.
For I will bring disaster upon them
at the time fixed for their punishment.
I, the Lord, have spoken!

16 This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to his people:

“Do not listen to these prophets when they prophesy to you,
filling you with futile hopes.
They are making up everything they say.
They do not speak for the Lord!
17 They keep saying to those who despise my word,
‘Don’t worry! The Lord says you will have peace!’
And to those who stubbornly follow their own desires,
they say, ‘No harm will come your way!’

21 “I have not sent these prophets,
yet they run around claiming to speak for me.
I have given them no message,
yet they go on prophesying.
22 If they had stood before me and listened to me,
they would have spoken my words,
and they would have turned my people
from their evil ways and deeds.

25 “I have heard these prophets say, ‘Listen to the dream I had from God last night.’ And then they proceed to tell lies in my name. 26 How long will this go on? If they are prophets, they are prophets of deceit, inventing everything they say. 27 By telling these false dreams, they are trying to get my people to forget me, just as their ancestors did by worshiping the idols of Baal.

28 “Let these false prophets tell their dreams,
but let my true messengers faithfully proclaim my every word.
There is a difference between straw and grain!
29 Does not my word burn like fire?”
says the Lord.
“Is it not like a mighty hammer
that smashes a rock to pieces?

30 “Therefore,” says the Lord, “I am against these prophets who steal messages from each other and claim they are from me. 31 I am against these smooth-tongued prophets who say, ‘This prophecy is from the Lord!’ 32 I am against these false prophets. Their imaginary dreams are flagrant lies that lead my people into sin. I did not send or appoint them, and they have no message at all for my people. I, the Lord, have spoken!

False Prophecies and False Prophets

33 “Suppose one of the people or one of the prophets or priests asks you, ‘What prophecy has the Lord burdened you with now?’ You must reply, ‘You are the burden! The Lord says he will abandon you!’

34 “If any prophet, priest, or anyone else says, ‘I have a prophecy from the Lord,’ I will punish that person along with his entire family. 35 You should keep asking each other, ‘What is the Lord’s answer?’ or ‘What is the Lord saying?’ 36 But stop using this phrase, ‘prophecy from the Lord.’ For people are using it to give authority to their own ideas, turning upside down the words of our God, the living God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Guide Us In Faith – A Prayer

Heavenly Father;

We praise you for using us to bring joy to your Son, Jesus Christ and giving us the faith to please You as well. In the midst of all the struggles, pressures, and discouragement we tend to face while in our frail, failing bodies, please continue transforming us into servants who are always submitted to Your will, Your direction and guidance.

Lead us by your Holy Spirit to find rest in the grand promises and assurances that you’ve revealed to us in your Living Word. We confess that we are weak and that we need your constant help. We confess that our flesh is at constant war with our spirit, but please prepare us for the day when we will stand before You, ready to give an account of all our service to You and to others.

Heavenly Father, though we do not deserve your grace, for there is absolutely no way we can earn it, still we cannot even begin to express our gratitude for nailing our guilt and shame upon the cross through your crucified Son and then gifting us with the abiding presence of His/Your Holy Spirit.

Lord, we earnestly long to experience the moment when you will declare to us, “Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your master.” We can only begin to imagine the joys that you have gone ahead to prepare for those of us whom You call heirs to Your Kingdom.

Help us this week as we continue our walk of faith, the one way You have said in Your Word that we can please You by, and help us to look forward to that day when our faith will become no more hope but an actual realization.

We ask You boldly and confidently and yet humbly, in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Redeemer. Amen and AMEN!

I John 4:17-18

1 John 4:17-18, “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

After John has driven home the fact in the previous verses that we have known, experienced, witnessed and thus believed the love that God has for us and as such we can abide in Him and since He IS love, we can abide in that love AND through what we have known, experienced and witnessed, and believed, that love can and does, abide within us.

So then the Beloved Apostle continues on with some of the BENEFITS of that kind of Godly love. John is taking us forward to that time when we know according to Scripture that “For it is written: “As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” – Romans 14:11, (Philippians 2:9-11). Judgement. Will it be in terror, or will it be in boldness? Of course, it’s going to depend on your experience and relationship with God the Father through Christ Jesus.

If you are part of what the Apostle shared in the previous verses, then you are part of that group who already has an established relationship with God and thus His love. That means then that John is sharing with you the benefit of being able to approach the Throne of God, the Judgement Seat of Christ Jesus with boldness. Remember what the writer of Hebrews stated, “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16.

We can have boldness or confidence in that day, why? Because God’s love, which dwells and abides in us, not our love but His, has been perfected within us. We have no NEED or concern to fear that day of judgement for our sin “problem” has been taken care of once and for all in Jesus Christ. Since we already know and believe that God’s love is a part of us, we can walk in that confidence with no doubts.

Also, here is the thing, if you have walked with the Lord any amount of time, you have had opportunity to do what the writer of Hebrews has written, approached BOLDLY to the throne of God’s grace, His unmerited, unearned favor by which we have found mercy! We already have that experience. When the day comes when “every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess,” we have already matured in that relationship and it will be like a loving and adoring son approaching his father that he has had a loving and intimate relationship with for a long time! We already know what to expect, a loving Father, welcoming His children Home at last!

And here is the other interesting part that the Apostle has attached to that verse, “because as He is, so are we in this world.” Now think this through; John has just told us matter-of-factly that we CAN approach judgement boldly BECAUSE God’s love has been perfected in us, and he gives us another because, another reason WHY we can approach judgement boldly. It is as if he is sharing with us a one-two punch explaining why we can have such assurance and such confidence when standing before Christ Jesus and God, the Father!

BECAUSE“as He is, so are we in this world.” We are LIKE Him, not just created in His likeness, but because of His love perfected in us, we are conformed to His likeness, to His Character and Nature which IS love. Being a “Christian” is supposed to mean, “following the example of Christ Jesus and being conformed to that example.” That’s what TRUE Christianity is. Well, here we see the Beloved Apostle stating because of God’s perfected love that we KNOW dwells within us, we ARE like Him and that is how the world will or should see us! That love has CHANGED us into the image and likeness of Christ Jesus. Christ Jesus is our example on HOW to love God and HOW to love our fellow man! That perfected love hasn’t just given us confidence and assurance against the day of judgement, it has changed us into the example of Christ Jesus being manifest to the world! It should show the world HOW God is to be loved and HOW our fellow man is to be loved; again, not in “feeling” but in action!

So, “there is no fear in love” and in fact there should NOT be any fear or dread, for that is what true fear is, dread, and it has no place in God’s perfected love. Fear or dread of torment, due to unresolved consequences, sin. Remember, we who are abiding in God’s love, whose love has been perfected, made complete in us, are not tormented by the thoughts of judgement. Our sin has been, not just paid for, but wiped away from the Father’s eyesight. All the Father sees in each of us is the Blood of His Son, cleansing us!

However, to those though who have not CHOSEN to partake in that gifted relationship with our Heavenly Father through the Blood of Jesus Christ, they are approaching without the assurance and benefit of past relationship and due to the unknown, from their perspective, they are approaching a wrathful God.

But we as His children have hope because of His love indwelling within each of us. The Apostle Paul reassures us with these words, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” – Romans 5:5. We have NO reason to doubt at all because of the Holy Spirit alive within each of us.

Fear and dread involves torment or at least the promise of torment. I need to make something clear here as well; there IS a difference between fear of the Lord and being AFRAID of God. The fear that the Apostle is referring to here IS the dread, being afraid of the consequences of sin and thus the judgement of God.

The “fear of the Lord,” that you hear Christians speak of a lot, is not dread, it is not being afraid, as it were, of God. For instance, the Apostle Peter wrote this, “Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.” – 1 Peter 2:17. The original word for fear as written here actually means to be in AWE, to be REVERANT towards God. You should NEVER have to dread Someone Who loves you! That is not a perfected love at all. Even in Proverbs it is stated, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10. Here also, the original Hebrew word used is for reverence and not meaning dread or fearfulness, to be afraid.

As God’s children and especially as our relationship with Him matures, there definitely develops not just a reverence, but an unmistakable awe towards Him. Our perspectives change towards our Heavenly Father and we start to see things in a new light as we become more and more like His true sons and daughters.

Now I want to insert this also into your thinking; none of us are perfect; yet! It doesn’t matter how mature we are in Christ or how long we have been born-again, or saved, we are still living in an imperfect carnal shell. It is a daily struggle for ANY True follower of Christ to let the Holy Spirit living within us to have reign over our fleshly desires. Our flesh is in constant warfare with our spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:12-14, Galatians 5:17).

And don’t forget the Apostle Paul’s statement to the Philippians in his letter to them; “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” – Philippians 3:12.

But the one thing we CAN count on with full assurance AND knowledge is that as God’s true children, His Holy Spirit IS abiding in us and thus His love is abiding AND perfected in each of us! Even though we are not perfect because of the constant warring with the spirit within, when we MIGHT have some doubts and especially those who are still young in their walk with the Lord there are plenty of Scriptures that confirm and acknowledge the assurances and confidence that the Apostle John has laid out. Our Heavenly Father, through His divinely inspired AND Living Word wants there to be NO doubts whatsoever in our hearts and minds as to His love for us!

Paul further confirms this with his writings to the Romans, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39.

This definitely confirms what John wrote in previous verses stating that we have known, we have witnessed, we have experienced and we believe the FACT that God’s love abides in us and thus we are able to abide in God’s love. Paul is PERSUADED! How can one be persuaded about a thing like God’s love other than through the same circumstance the Apostle John expounds on, witnessing, experiencing and believing through direct knowledge!

All throughout John’s letter he has been laying the foundation of God’s Character, Nature and Attributes based on the fact that God IS love. As we have gone along, we have seen that God’s love, His ABIDING love, just like He Himself, never leaves us nor forsakes us (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5), and thus we have no need to dread or be afraid of the future universal judgement day. Rather, we can rest in the relationship that we have established with the Father through Christ Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit of God dwelling within us.

I want to close this lesson with another confirmation from the Apostle Paul that relates to what John has stated thus far:

“But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:10-13.

God’s love has been perfected in us, His children. That is beyond blessing for it provides each of us with an ETERNAL assurance of a continued loving relationship with our Heavenly Father, God Almighty. Right now, in this natural life, Paul wrote, abide faith, hope and love, but the greatest and the one that is most Eternal, is LOVE!

One question; ARE YOU YET PERSUADED?

Next post we will begin with 1 John chapter 4 verse 19.
