Daily Prayer & Praise for 3-25-2022

Prayer for Today 3-25-2022

Oh Almighty and most merciful Father, Who did send Your beloved Son to die for the sins of the whole world, look down, we beseech You, upon all the nations who have not known His name, and in Your own good time lead them to His Cross. Strengthen with the comfort of the Holy Spirit all who bear the message of the Gospel to foreign nations. Raise up among us a lively sympathy and compassion for their labors. Take away from those who hear them tell of the Good News all hardness of heart and pride and impenitence; and so move them, Blessed Lord, with Your infinite and unfailing love, that the day may speedily come when all the ends of the world shall be turned to You through Your Son, and there shall be one flock and one Shepherd. We ask all for Christ Jesus’ sake.

Amen.

A.W. Tozer – 3/25/2022

thought of day header

For Friday March 25, 2022:

OH GOD, THOU ART

Exodus 3:14 (NKJV)
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

We must remember that the “attributes” of God are not component parts of the blessed Godhead nor elements out of which He is composed. A god who could be composed would not be God at all but the work of something or someone greater than he, great enough to compose him. We would then have a synthetic god made out of the pieces we call attributes, and the true God would be another being altogether, One indeed who is above all thought and all conceiving.

The Bible and Christian theology teach that God is an indivisible unity . . . from whom nothing can be taken and to whom nothing can be added. Mercy, for instance, immutability, eternity—these are but names which we have given to something which God has declared to be true of Himself All the “of God” expressions in the Bible must be understood to mean not what God has but what God is in His undivided and indivisible unity. Even the word “nature” when applied to God should be understood as an accommodation to our human way of looking at things and not as an accurate description of anything true of the mysterious Godhead. God has said, “I AM THAT I AM” (Exodus 3:14), and we can only repeat in reverence, “O God, Thou art.”

Daily Prayer & Praise for 3-24-2022

Prayer for Today 3-24-2022

We give You humble and hearty thanks, O most merciful Father, for all the blessings of the past day. Teach us to praise You not only with our lips, but with our works and with our lives. We are Yours: Oh sanctify us wholly.

We intercede on behalf of our leaders and all who are put in authority under them. Guide with Your wisdom and strengthen morally those who are set over us to lead. Shield and protect all in our communities and neighborhoods who are in temptation or danger, both naturally and spiritually. Guard with Your gracious protection our families and friends. Forgive us our many offences and failures and negligences throughout this day; and defend us, with Your great love, from all the perils of the night, for the sake of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

C.H. Spurgeon – 3/24/2022

thought of day header

For Thursday March 24, 2022:

THE SILVER TRUMPET

Isaiah 1:18 (NKJV)
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.

When a man believes in Christ, he is in that moment, in God’s sight, as though he had never sinned in all his life. Nay, I will go further, he is that day in a better position than though he had never sinned; for if he had never sinned, he would have had the perfect righteousness of man; but by believing, he is made the righteousness of God in Christ. We had once a cloak that is taken away: when we believe, Christ gives us a robe; but it is an infinitely better one. We lost but a common garment, but he arrays us royally. Strangely indeed is that man clothed who believes in Jesus. Yon thief who is hanging on the cross, is black as hell: he believes, and he is as white as heaven’s own purity. Faith takes away all sin, through the precious blood of Jesus. When a man has once gone down into that sacred laver which is filled with Jesus’ blood, there “is no spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing,” left upon him. His sin has ceased to be; his iniquity is covered; his transgressions have been carried into the wilderness, and are gone. This is the most wonderful thing about the gospel. This does not take away part of our sin, but the whole of it; it does not remove it partially, but entirely; not for a little time, but for ever. “He that believeth on him is not condemned.” And though today you should have committed every crime in the world, yet the moment you believe in Jesus, you are saved; the Spirit of God shall dwell in you to keep you from sin in the future, and the blood of Christ shall plead for you, that sin shall never be laid to your charge.

Moral Standards – What Standards?

*Pastor’s Note: This is one of those messages that I did for our local newspaper and also for my first website back in the very early days after Y2K, (the year 2000). Because of the significance of the subject, I have updated it a bit with a picture and Scripture, but in essence it is still the same message from over TWENTY YEARS ago! All I can add is, what have we learned in all that time? Also please remember to never cease praying for the lost and more so as we see the Day of the Lord approaching.

My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck. When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you. For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life. – Proverbs 620-23  NLT.

The subject that caught my attention on the television was teenage violence. One of the women on the television talk show had a son who was shot to death. It’s an ugly, horrific topic which is tragically too real and getting worse as the years go by. Teenage boys and girls are carrying guns. However, it’s not JUST guns. Knives and other weapons are getting into the schools. Schools are using metal detectors and trying, often unsuccessfully to confiscate the weapons. Why is it happening and not just happening but getting worse?

Let’s consider the problem for a bit. We have determined that teaching absolute moral standards is no longer “politically correct” and infringes on people’s rights, even young people. After all, right and wrong are relative depending upon circumstances. We cannot teach standards of morality in our schools or in any of our public institutions. We CAN however teach alternate and “relative” lifestyles. The Ten Commandments are strictly out of bounds! Why? Because the Ten Commandments are plainly and most noticeably religious, and you cannot mix anything state sponsored with anything religious. Of course in application this only applies to Judaism and Christianity.

ten commandments

So, because of this we have not taught our children the precept, “You must not murder” as found in Exodus 20:13, at least within the confines of society. It doesn’t matter that obedience to this commandment saves lives and has for centuries now. It doesn’t matter to those in supposed leadership that the Ten Commandments are supremely practical. No matter that growing up under the standard of absolute commandments and right and wrong has long term beneficial effects.

What about another epidemic situation affecting teens as well, teenage pregnancy? But shame on you if you talk to teens about the commandment, “You must not commit adultery” found in exactly the next verse, Exodus 20:14. Shame on you if you preach this “religious” value! No, no, it is better to teach them about “protection” rather than abstinence! No matter that millions of families could have avoided untold turmoil, heartbreak and expense. No matter that obedience to this commandment is also supremely practical and healthy, and not just in the short term but in the long-run as well!

When you truly think about it, isn’t it absolutely amazing that seventy-some years of atheism was too much for the now defunct Soviet Union. Yet many of the former Soviet nations now want and even institute what we have openly and outright rejected, the Ten Commandments along with teaching moral standards of right and wrong!

Daily Prayer & Praise for 3-23-2022

Prayer for Today 3-23-2022

Oh Eternal God, by Whom the whole Body of Christ is sustained and governed, we thank You that You have called us to worship You in Your Holy Congregation. Grant us each day to feel more deeply the privileges of true Christian fellowship. Bless all in attendance in the services as we gather to worship and praise You. Reveal Yourself to us, according to Your promises and Your Word, in the appointed means of grace, and especially when we partake in the Holy Sacraments. Give a rich increase to each seed of good sown in our hearts; and by Your almighty power keep us steadfast in the faith once delivered to ALL the Saints, through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen.

Thought of the Day – A.W. Tozer – 3/23/2022

thought of day header

For Wednesday March 23, 2022:

HE WILL ALWAYS BE GOD

Jeremiah 10:10 (NKJV)
But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

Men and women who think they have all the answers about this life and the next have been mouthing their brave words for generations. They are big, challenging words, but they come from puny, empty hearts and minds. These infidels are too blind to recognize or acknowledge that God does have … a divine plan in which mankind is never permitted to utter the first word or the last . . .

Humans try to ignore God, continuing to make their own ambitious, selfish plans. In the years before World War I, Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm . . . was exceedingly headstrong. At a chapel service attended by the kaiser, a faithful German minister preached on the coming again of Jesus Christ to establish God’s kingdom of righteousness and peace throughout the earth. Wilhelm was greatly offended and spoke to the minister at the close of the service.

“I never want to hear that kind of a sermon again,” he warned the preacher. “Such an event is not at all in keeping with the plans we have for the future and the glory of our Fatherland!”

But Kaiser Wilhelm and, a generation later, Adolph Hitler are merely fading memories—illustrations of that vain human propensity to make ourselves big and God small.

Thought of the Day – C.H. Spurgeon – 3/22/2022

thought of day header

For Tuesday March 22, 2022:

PARTICULAR ELECTION

2 Peter 1:10-11 (NKJV)
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

There are the two things which you and I are to prove to be sure for ourselves—whether we are called and whether we are elected. And oh, dear friends, this is a matter about which you and I should be very anxious. For consider what an honourable thing it is to be elected. In this world it is thought a mighty thing to be elected to the House of Parliament; but how much more honourable to be elected to eternal life; to be elected to “the Church of the first born, whose names are written in heaven;” to be elected to be an equal with angels, to be a favourite of the living God, to dwell with the Most High, amongst the fairest of the sons of light, nearest the eternal throne! Election in this world is but a short-lived thing, but God’s election is eternal. Let a man be elected to a seat in the House; five years must be the longest period that he can hold his election; but if you and I are elected according to the Divine purpose, we shall hold our seats when the day-star shall have ceased to burn, when the sun shall have grown dim with age, and when the eternal hills shall have bowed themselves with weakness. If we are chosen of God and precious, then are we chosen for ever; for God changeth not in the objects of his election. Those whom he hath ordained he hath ordained to eternal life, “and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of his hand.” It is worth while to know ourselves elect, for nothing in this world can make a man more happy or more valiant than the knowledge of his election. “Nevertheless,” said Christ to his apostles, “rejoice not in this, but rather rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Thought of the Day – A.W. Tozer – 3/21/2022

thought of day header

For Monday March 21, 2022:

GOD IS INEFFABLE

1 Corinthians 2:11 (NKJV)
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

We can best conceive of God by conceiving of what He is not. We can always know what God is not, but we can never know quite what God is . . . The greatness of God’s mind leaves all our soaring thoughts behind. God is ineffable (incapable of being expressed in words), inconceivable and unimaginable . . .

A Tasty Preservative

thought of day header

For Sunday March 20, 2022:

A TASTY PRESERVATIVE

Matthew 5:13 (NKJV)
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”

In ancient cultures, salt was so valuable that it was often used as a medium of exchange. It not only added flavor to food but also was valued as a preservative. Animal flesh was dried and salted in order to keep from spoiling—to preserve its life-giving nutrients until it was consumed.

When Jesus told His disciples that they were the “salt of the earth,” they would have immediately recognized the metaphor. But they probably had to think about its implications. The flavor they were to add to the world speaks of the abundant life Jesus came to give (John 10:10). But their role as a preservative required deeper understanding. Without the spiritual presence of God in this world, darkness would quickly overtake everything. When the church is taken up from the earth in the future, evil will have its way (2 Thessalonians 2:1–12). But as long as Christians are on earth, the Holy Spirit is working through them to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8–11).

By living for Christ today, you add abundant flavor to this world and hold back the darkness so that more might believe.

We are the salt of the earth … not the sugar.
Our ministry is to truly cleanse and not just to change the taste.

A Warning of Judgment

prophetic words header wp

Pastor’s Note: God does NOT change and neither does the spirit of His Word. It is living and still relevant for each and every one of us today. With that thought in mind, remember the Prophetic words given by God’s Prophets and Teachers. The words STILL ring true!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-21, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” KNJV (Bold emphasis, added).

Come, all you nations of the world, let us walk in the light of the LORD! For the LORD has rejected the nations, even those who once called Him Lord, because they have filled their land with practices from the East and with sorcerers, as the other idolatrous nations do. They have made alliances with pagans. Mystery Babylon is full of silver and gold; there is no end to its treasures. Their land is full of machines of war; there is no end to its military equipment. Their land is full of idols; the people worship things they have made with their own hands as well as those people they have placed on pedestals. So now they will be humbled, and all will be brought low—do not forgive them. Crawl into caves in the rocks. Hide in the dust from the terror of the LORD and the glory of his majesty. Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the LORD will be exalted on the coming day of judgment.

For the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has a day of reckoning upon the arrogant and rebellious. He will punish the proud and mighty and bring down everything that is exalted. He will cut down all the works of man that have been exalted and praised. He will level all the high mountains and all the lofty hills. He will break down every high tower and every fortified wall. He will destroy all the great trading ships and every magnificent vessel. Human pride will be humbled, and human arrogance will be brought down. Only the LORD will be exalted on the coming day of judgment.

pw judgment day

All kinds of idols will completely disappear. When the LORD rises to shake the earth, his enemies will crawl into holes in the ground. They will hide in caves in the rocks from the terror of the LORD and the glory of his majesty. On the coming day of judgment they will abandon the gold and silver idols they made for themselves to worship. They will leave their gods to the rodents and bats, while they crawl away into caverns and hide among the jagged rocks in the cliffs. They will try to escape the terror of the LORD and the glory of his majesty as he rises to shake the earth. Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they? What lasting good have they accomplished?

Are We Listening Today?

prophetic words header wp

Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth! This is what the Lord says: “The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me. Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care— but you don’t know your master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.” Oh, what a sinful nation they are— loaded down with a burden of guilt. They are evil people, corrupt children who have rejected the Lord. They have despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him.

Why do you continue to invite punishment? Must you rebel forever? Your head is injured, and your heart is sick. You are battered from head to foot— covered with bruises, welts, and infected wounds— without any soothing ointments or bandages. Your country lies in ruins, and your towns are burned. Foreigners plunder your fields before your eyes and destroy everything they see.

“When you come to worship me, who asked you to parade through my courts with all your ceremony? Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts me! As for your celebrations and the Sabbath and your special days for fasting— they are all sinful and false. I want no more of your pious meetings.”

“When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims. Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.”

Isaiah 1_18

“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat. But if you turn away and refuse to listen, you will be devoured by the sword of your enemies. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

See how you as a nation, once so faithful, has become a prostitute. Once the home of justice and righteousness, you are now filled with murderers. Once like pure silver, you have become like worthless slag. Once so pure, you are now like watered-down wine. Your leaders are rebels, the companions of thieves. All of them love bribes and demand payoffs, but they refuse to defend the cause of orphans or fight for the rights of widows.

Therefore, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the Mighty One, God our Father says, “I will take revenge on my enemies and pay back my foes! I will raise my fist against you. I will melt you down and skim off your slag. I will remove all your impurities. Then I will give you good judges again and wise counselors like you used to have. Then you as a nation will again be called the Home of Justice and the Faithful City.”

You nations will be restored by justice; those who repent will be revived by righteousness. But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed, and those who desert the Lord will be consumed.

The strongest among you will disappear like straw; their evil deeds will be the spark that sets it on fire. They and their evil works will burn up together, and no one will be able to put out the fire.

Nations – Receive Justice Now

anecdotal stories

Habakkuk 2:2, Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That the one who reads it may run.”

7, “Will not your creditors rise up suddenly, And those who collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them.”

9, “Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house To put his nest on high, To be delivered from the hand of calamity!”

Revelation 18:2-3, And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird. For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality.”

Punished Now

At the end of World War I, Germany’s infrastructure, government, and properties were intact, untouched by the cataclysm. At the end of World War II, her infrastructure was nearly extinct, imperiled by Allied bombing and Hitler’s mad demand that it be destroyed.

Perhaps the difference between the two wars lies in the respective moralities of the German governments. Stories of atrocities by the Boche in World War I had been circulated but afterwards usually proved unfounded. Few believed the stories of Nazi atrocities in death camps based on similar stories of World War I. With the Allied liberation, however, Nazi depravities shook the world.

Only four percent of Americans in European POW camps died. But 27 percent of American POWs in Japanese camps died – the number in the River Kwai camps was higher. Could God have visited Japan with a national calamity as punishment for her inexcusable barbarity towards captive peoples?

Or consider the collapse of Communism in 1989. It began to unravel in Eastern Europe after nearly forty-five years of Marxist-Leninism lies, deceptions, and failures. The Berlin Wall came down, Stalinist dictators fell, and fledgling democracies flourished. Anyone who believes in God’s providence has to conclude that God judged and condemned an ideology determined to uproot and trash God.

The words of George Mason of Virginia, spoken at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 may well be true: “By an inevitable chain of causes and effects providence punishes national sins, by national calamities.”
