Breakthrough – Reasoned Cases For Christ

*Pastor’s Note: Do you ever wish you could walk with Jesus as the Apostles and Disciples did? I don’t think any Christian hasn’t had thoughts like that. Here’s a great lesson by our Brother Bruce Cooper about keeping our focus on the faith we must walk today yet with the hope of the future that we WILL be with the Lord face to face!

Also, please stop by and let them know you appreciate their ministry for us as well as for the Lord. While you’re there, check out their other articles. Remember, these teachings and exhortations are a sacrifice of praise and worship to the Lord! Give them a like and some encouragement!

Reasoned Cases For Christ – Home

John 20:29 NASB

“Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

These are the words that Jesus stated to Thomas, when Jesus appeared to the disciples, once again, after His resurrection. This time, however, Thomas was present. As you recall, when the other disciples had initially told Thomas that the Lord had indeed risen, Thomas, who had not been present, indicated that he would not believe unless he himself physically saw and touched the wounds in Jesus’ hands and in Jesus’ side (John 20: 24-29).

I don’t know if any of you have ever had the thought run through your minds that you wish you had the conviction or mind set, that the Apostles, including Paul, had, in our day to day walk through this journey of faith.

I think I understand some of the reasons why faith is important, but I don’t always like it, because sometimes my faith illustrates to me, that my faith or trust in God, is less than it should be, and it bothers me.

Thomas believed because he saw the risen Lord, as did the other disciples. So not only did all of the Apostles get to see all the things that Jesus did and hear all the things that Jesus said, but after witnessing Jesus dying on the cross and be buried, they witnessed the risen Lord after His resurrection. I’m thinking that one would have to be made of stone, if that didn’t get your attention and literally change everything. And obviously, as we all know, it did.

And, once again, I think I do understand some of the reasons why Jesus needed to ascend back to His and our Father, after the 40 days, so that God’s Holy Spirit would and could then guide all of us, throughout the entire age of the Church, and not leave any of us alone, as orphans.

Yet there is part of me that longs to be captured inside the reality that the Apostles had, so that my mindset might be as focused as theirs obviously were. And I have infrequently asked God for some kind of breakthrough, that would get me past my “lesser than” mindset. And it crosses my mind that I too, long to see the risen Lord.

But that was then, and this is now, and God in His wisdom has seen fit to move us from what the Apostles experienced, to what we Church age Christians are to walk in, and that walk, of necessity, by God’s divine will, and according to His purposes, is by faith. And I think that the Apostle Paul encapsulates the reality of the Church age in Ephesians 2:19-22 NASB when he says:

So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.”

And it crosses my mind that in my longing to fulfill my need for me, I too often fail to see God’s purpose for all of us, and the narrow realization of my vision of my need for me, is much too small. And the breakthrough that I seek, has already been given. I just needed to see it.

Revelation 5:13 NASB

“And I heard every created thing which is in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, or on the sea, and all the things in them, saying, “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion forever and ever.”

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!
