Prayer for Wednesday

Mighty God, we thank You for sending Your light into all the world to reveal that You are the Father of all, to show us, Your children, that You are leading us and the world to Yourself, the good and the bad, those who are near to You and those who are far away. We thank You that through all this Your name may be acknowledged, honored and praised. We thank You that we may live from Your hands of plenty and that everyone may see Your work on earth and be filled with praise for all the blessings You give through grace. May the light which You have sent to earth in Jesus Christ shine brightly for us and penetrate our hearts so that we open ourselves to it with joy, and so that we may reflect that light to others in worship to our Savior. Bless us and give us Your abiding Holy Spirit; for without Your anointing Spirit we can do nothing. May we receive help from You each and every day. We ask all this in the name of our Intercessor, Jesus Christ!

Amen.

Billboards For Jesus

food for thought header 2
Millions of motorists in the Pacific Northwest are getting the word as billboards pop up along highways announcing “The Lord is coming” and similar messages. It all started when Seattle real estate man Roland J. Hoefer saw red after spotting a billboard that promoted a nudist colony. Now his Maranatha Association is marketing Jesus just as forthrightly. Hoefer cites Habakkuk in the Living Bible as rationale: “And the Lord said to me, ‘Write my answer on a billboard, large and clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance and rush to tell the others.'”

Exodus 15:1

thought of day header

Wednesday October 5, 2022

Exodus 15:1
“For He has triumphed gloriously!”

Beloved, God calls us to victory. Have any of you given up the conflict, have you surrendered? Have you said, “This thing is too much”? Have you said, “I can give up anything else but this”? If you have, you are not in the land of promise. God means you should accept every difficult thing that comes in your life. He has started with you, knowing every difficulty. And if you dare to let Him, He will carry you through not only to be conquerors, but “more than conquerors.” Are you looking for all the victory?

God gives His children strength for the battle and watches over them with a fond enthusiasm. He longs to fold you to His arms and say to you, “I have seen thy conflict, I have watched thy trials, I have rejoiced in thy victory; thou hast honored Me.” You know He told Joshua at the beginning, “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life; as I was with Moses, so shall I be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” And again, He says to us, “Fear thou not, for I am with thee.”

Reflecting With God 10/05/2022

Thinking, praying, reading, studying the Bible – when we do these things, we are reflecting on the Word of God. To reflect is to contemplate and/or consider, and God wants us to deeply reflect on His Word so that we can better understand Him.

Wednesday Reflecting

“Who is a rock, except our God?” – 2 Samuel 22:32.

God is a rock for a foundation. Build your lives, your thoughts, your efforts, your hopes there. The house founded on the rock will stand though wind and rain from above smite it, and floods from beneath beat on it like battering rams. God is a rock for a fortress. Flee to Him to hide, and your defense shall be the “munition of rocks,” which shall laugh to scorn all assault, and never be scorned by any foe. God is a rock for shade and refreshment. Come close to Him out of the scorching heat, and you will find coolness, and verdure and moisture in the clefts, when all outside that grateful shadow is parched and dry.

Trusting Only In God’s Word

Let Your mercies come also to me, O LORD— Your salvation according to Your word. So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me, For I trust in Your word. – Psalm 119:41-42.

God, as our Heavenly Father does speak to us. He does this, of course, as we read His Word and meditate on it and as we open our hearts to the indwelling Holy Spirit. He speaks in love and in mercy, and even warnings to us come from His compassionate heart. According to what the Psalmist wrote earlier the Word of God is the expression of the love of God to us and it should result in love from our hearts to the Lord, to His people, and most definitely to and for the lost.

“The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.” – Psalm 33:11 (emphasis mine).

God’s Word shares God’s promises, and the Lord’s promises always imply hope and specifically hope for the future. Scripture is “the word of his promise” as stated in 1 Kings 8:56, “There has not failed one word of all His good promise.” All of His promises have their realization in Jesus Christ. As Paul wrote it:

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” – 2 Corinthians 1:20.

The Scriptures are also “to you the word of this salvation. . .” – Acts 13:26.  Remember, the Word declares that Jesus is the only Savior and we can trust in Him. What a wonder that God has spoken to us according to the writer of Hebrews! (see Hebrews 1:1-2). The question I have to pose right now is, are we listening?

pd God is speaking

However, be very aware that while God is speaking, our enemies are also speaking, whether they be the world system or the enemy of our souls and the father of lies. If you remember from past readings or study, the writer of this psalm was oppressed by enemies who lied about him, slandered his name, and even threatened his life.

Just as it was back in the days of this psalmist, our main weapon against these attacks is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6:17.  Only God’s truth can silence the devil’s lies (see Matthew 4:1–11). We need God’s truth in our hearts, not only to keep us from sin, but also to equip us to answer those who oppose us or ask us why we believe as we do (1 Peter 3:15). The only way to make sure God’s word is a part of us and deep within our hearts is to read His Word and reread it and meditate on it.

If you feel weak and always under attack, read His Word and listen to His indwelling Spirit; it will be that “still small voice” after the firestorm. (1 Kings 19:12).

It’s Time To Grow Up! – 2

expository teaching header 1

Scripture Text – Galatians 4:1-18

He Explains Their Adoption – Continued

Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. – Galatians 4:1-7

What God did: redeemed us (verses 4-5). The expression “the fullness of the time” refers to that time when the world was favorably ready for the birth of the Savior. Historians tell us that the old religions were dying; the old philosophies were empty and powerless to change men’s lives. Religious bankruptcy and spiritual hunger were everywhere. God was preparing the world for the arrival of His Son.

Also, from the historical point of view, the Roman Empire itself helped prepare the world for the birth of the Savior. Roads connected city with city, and all cities ultimately led to Rome. Roman laws protected the rights of citizens, and Roman soldiers guarded the peace. Thanks to both the Greek and Roman conquests, Latin and Greek were known across the empire. Jesus’ birth at Bethlehem was not an accident; it was an appointment: Jesus came in “the fullness of the time.” God always has His perfect timing.

Paul is also careful to point out the dual nature of Jesus Christ, that He is both God and man. As God, Jesus “came forth” (John 16:28); but as man, He was “born of a woman.” The ancient promise said that the Redeemer would be of “the woman’s seed” (Genesis 3:15); and Jesus fulfilled that promise (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18–25).

et galatians 313

Paul has told us who came—God’s Son; he has told us when He came and how He came. Now he explains why He came: “to redeem those who were under the Law.” Redeem is the same word Paul used earlier (Galatians 3:13); it means “to set free by paying a price.” A man could purchase a slave in any Roman city (there were about 60 million slaves in the empire at that time), either to keep the slave for himself or to set him free. Jesus came to set us free. So, to go back into the Law is to undo the very work that Christ accomplished on the cross. He did not purchase us to make us slaves, but sons! Under the Law, the Jews were mere children under guardianship, but under grace, the believer is a son of God with an adult standing in God’s family.

What we are: sons and heirs (verses 6-7). Once again, the entire Trinity is involved in our spiritual experience: God the Father sent the Son to die for us, and God the Son sent His Spirit to live within us. The contrast here is not between immature children and adult sons, but rather, between servants and sons. Like the Prodigal Son, the Galatians wanted their Father to accept them as servants, when they really were sons (Luke 15:18–19). The contrasts are easy to see. Here’s some examples:

The son has the same nature as the father, but the servant does not. When we trust Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us; and this means we are “partakers of the divine nature.” – 2 Peter 1:4. The Law could never give a person God’s nature within. All it could do was reveal to the person their desperate need for God’s nature. So, when the believer goes back into the Law, they are denying the very divine nature within, and they are giving the old nature (the flesh) opportunity to work in them.

The son has a father, while the servant has a master. No servant could ever say “Father” to his master. When the sinner trusts Christ, they receive the Holy Spirit within, and the Spirit tells them that they are a child of the Father (Romans 8:15–16). It is natural for a baby to cry, but not for a baby to talk to their father. When the Spirit enters the heart, He says, “Abba, Father;” and, in response, the believer cries, “Abba, Father!” (again see Romans 8:15) The word Abba is an Aramaic word that is the equivalent of our English word “papa.” This shows the closeness of the child to the Father. No servant has this, no matter how close they are to their master.

The son obeys out of love, while the servant obeys out of fear. The Spirit works in the heart of the believer to quicken and increase their love for God. “The fruit of the Spirit is love.” – Galatians 5:22. “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 5:5. The Judaizers told the Galatians that they would become better Christians by submitting to the Law, but the Law can never produce obedience. Only love can do that. “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” – John 14:15.

The son is rich, while the servant is poor. We are both “sons and heirs.” And since we are adopted—placed as adult sons in the family—we may begin drawing on our inheritance right now. God has made available to us the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7; 2:7), the riches of His glory (Philippians 4:19), the riches of His goodness (Romans 2:4), and the riches of His wisdom (Romans 11:33)—and all of the riches of God are found in Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:19; 2:3).

et colossians 2_3

The son has a future, while the servant does not. While many kind masters did provide for their slaves in old age, it was not required of them. However, the father always provides for the son (2 Corinthians 12:14).

In one sense, our adoption is not yet final, because we are awaiting the return of Christ and the redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:23). Some scholars think that this second stage in our adoption corresponds to the Roman practice when a man adopted someone outside his family to be his son. First there was a private ceremony at which the son was purchased; then there was a public ceremony at which the adoption was declared openly before the officials.

Christians have experienced the first stage: we have been purchased by Christ and indwelt and sealed by the Holy Spirit. We are therefore, awaiting the second stage: the public declaration at the return of Christ when we will become like Him (1 John 3:1–3). We are “sons and heirs,” and the best part of our inheritance is still yet to come (see 1 Peter 1:1–5).

Daily Prayer & Praise 10/04/2022

prayer and praise header 4
Prayer for Tuesday

Father in Heaven, we people on earth are poor in spirit and needy. We are often deaf, dumb and blind, but You rouse us every day and call to us, “Ephphatha,” (be opened). We thank You for this, in gladness for all You do for our sake. Help us to become united in expectation for the great day when our Lord Jesus Christ will come once again, when before all people He will be proved Your Son, the Savior in whom You, the Almighty, come to meet us. Through Him You once again say, “Let there be light! Let there be life! Let life break free from the darkness of death so that Jesus may come as the Savior of all, the Savior even of those who are still in deepest darkness.” Praise to your name, O Father in Heaven and in the name of Your wondrous Son, Jesus!

Amen.

Astronauts Read Genesis 1

food for thought header 2
On Christmas Eve, somewhere above the forbidding landscape of the moon, the voices of Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders carried to earth dwellers the story of creation as found in Genesis 1:1–10.

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth,” intoned Anders in Apollo 8’s unannounced litany broadcast as the astronauts’ TV camera flashed back a remarkable picture of the deeply-shadowed lunar landscape.

Borman closed the lunar telecast with these words: “Good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you upon the good earth.”

The trio then closed the moonship’s fourth telecast and began preparations for the successful blast out of lunar orbit to return to the “grand oasis in the vastness of space, earth.”

Fear Not

thought of day header

Tuesday October 4, 2022

Isaiah 41:14
“Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you,” says the LORD
And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Behold the heavens, the work of God’s fingers; behold the sun guided in his daily march; go ye forth at midnight, and behold the heavens, consider the stars and the moon; look upon these works of God’s hands, and if ye be men of sense and your souls are attuned to the high music of the spheres, ye will say, “What is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou visitest him?” My God! When I survey the boundless fields of heaven, and see those ponderous orbs rolling therein—when I consider how vast are thy dominions—so wide that an angel’s wing might flap to all eternity and never reach a boundary—I marvel that thou shouldst look on insects so obscure as man. I have taken the microscope and seen the insect upon the leaf, and I have called him small. I will not call him so again; compared with me he is great, if I put myself into comparison with God. I am so little, that I shrink into nothingness when I behold the almightiness of Jehovah—so little, that the difference between the microscopic creature and man dwindles into nothing, when compared with the infinite chasm between God and man. Let the mind rove upon the great doctrines of the Godhead; consider the existence of God from before the foundations of the world; behold him who is, and was, and is to come, the Almighty; let the soul comprehend as much as it can of the Infinite, and grasp as much as possible of the Eternal, and I am sure if you have minds at all, they will shrink with awe. The tall archangel bows himself before his Master’s throne, and we shall cast ourselves into the lowest dust when we feel what base nothings, what insignificant specks we are, when compared with our all-adorable Creator.

Thinking, praying, reading, studying the Bible – when we do these things, we are reflecting on the Word of God. To reflect is to contemplate and/or consider, and God wants us to deeply reflect on His Word so that we can better understand Him.

Tuesday Reflecting

“But the Lord was my support.” – 2 Samuel 22:19.

When I first amused myself with going out to sea, when the winds arose and the waves became a little rough I found a difficulty to keep my legs on the deck, for I tumbled and tossed about like a porpoise on the water. At last I caught hold of a rope that was floating about, and then I was enabled to stand upright. So when in prayer a multitude of troublous thoughts invade your peace, or when the winds and waves of temptation arise, look out for the rope, lay hold of it, and stay yourself on the faithfulness of God in His covenant with His people and in His promises. Hold fast by that rope, and you shall stand.

It’s Time To Grow Up! – 1

expository teaching header 1

Scripture Text – Galatians 4:1-18

One of the great setbacks to legalism in the Christian’s lifestyle is that it gives the appearance of spiritual maturity when, in reality, it leads the believer back into a “second childhood” of Christian experience. The Galatian Christians, like most believers, wanted to grow and go forward for Christ; but they were going about it in the wrong way. Their experience is not so very different from that of Christians today who get involved in various legalistic movements and denominations, hoping to become better Christians. Their heart and motives may be in the right place, but their methods are wrong.

This is the truth Paul is trying to get across to his beloved converts in Galatia. The Judaizers had convinced them into thinking that obeying the Law would make them better Christians. Their old nature felt an attraction for the Law because the Law enabled them to do things and then to see the results of those actions; it was works, under the guise of the Law. As they took stock of themselves and their achievements, they felt a sense of accomplishment, and, no doubt, a little bit of pride. They thought they were going forward when in actuality they were regressing.

Paul takes three approaches to this situation as he seeks to convince the Galatians that they do not need legalism in order to live the Christian life. They have everything they need totally and completely, by abiding in Christ Jesus.

et adoption

He Explains Their Adoption

Among the blessings of the Christian experience is adoption (Galatians 4:5; Ephesians 1:5). We do not enter God’s family by adoption, the way a homeless child would enter a loving family in our own society. The only way to get into God’s family is by regeneration, being “born again” (John 3:3).

The New Testament word for adoption means “to place as an adult son.” It has to do with our standing in the family of God: we are not little children but adult sons with all of the privileges of sonship.

It is unfortunate that many translations of the New Testament do not make a distinction between children of God and sons of God. We are the children of God by faith in Christ, born into God’s family. But every child of God is automatically placed into the family as a son, and as a son he has all the legal rights and privileges of a son. When a sinner trusts Christ and is saved, as far as their condition is concerned, they are still a “spiritual babe” who needs to grow (1 Peter 2:2–3); but as far as their position is concerned, they are already an adult son who can draw on the Father’s wealth and who can exercise all the wonderful privileges of sonship.

We enter God’s family by regeneration, but we enjoy God’s family by adoption. The Christian does not have to wait to begin enjoying the spiritual riches they have in Christ. “If a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Now follows Paul’s discussion about adoption. He reminds his readers of three specific facts.

et no slave

What we were: children in bondage (verses 1-3). No matter how wealthy a father may be, his infant or toddling child cannot really enjoy that wealth. In the Roman world, the children of wealthy people were cared for by slaves. No matter who their father was, the child was still a child, under the supervision of a servant. In fact, the child was not much different from the servant who guarded him. The servant was commanded by the master of the house, and the child was commanded by the servant.

This was in reality the spiritual condition of the Jews under the age of the Law. The Law, you recall, was the “guardian,” as the Word states, that disciplined the nation and prepared the people for the coming of Christ (Galatians 3:23–25). So, when the Judaizers led the Galatians back into the legalism from which they were freed, they were leading them not only back into religious bondage, but also into moral and spiritual infancy and immaturity.

Paul states that the Jews were, like little children, in bondage to “the elements of the world.” This word elements means the basic principles, in other words, the ABCs of the world. For some fifteen centuries, Israel had been in kindergarten and grade school, learning their “spiritual ABCs,” so that they would be ready when Christ, the Messiah, would come. Then they would get the full revelation, for Jesus Christ is “the Alpha and the Omega.” – Revelation 22:13.  He encompasses all the alphabet of God’s revelation to man. He is God’s last Word (Hebrews 1:1–3).

Legalism, then, is not a step toward maturity; it is a step back into childhood, into guardianship. The Law was not God’s final revelation; it was but the preparation for that final revelation in Christ. It is important that a person knows their ABCs, because they are the foundation for understanding all of the language that one must eventually learn. But the person who sits in a library and recites the ABCs instead of reading the great literature that is around them, is showing that they are indeed immature and ignorant, not mature and wise. Under the Law, the Jews were children in bondage, not sons enjoying their liberty in the Father.

Daily Prayer & Praise 10/03/2022

prayer and praise header 4
Prayer for Monday

Lord our God, our Father in Heaven, we come to You as Your children. Bless us, we pray. Bless us especially in days when fear tries to take hold of us. Help us to remember that You do not give the spirit of fear. Allow Your help to come down to us as You have so often promised, the great help that is found abiding in Jesus Christ and He in us, who shall come to redeem the whole world. Bless us through Your Word. Renew us again and again to stand firm and true to You, for You are our help for redemption and reconciliation through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.

Amen.

Creation Out of Nothing

food for thought header 2
Frederick the Great needed a new court chaplain. He decided to base his selection on the way in which applicants would deliver an extemporaneous sermon. The text, in a sealed envelope, was to be handed to each applicant as he entered the pulpit.

In church, on the appointed day, a courtier handed one of the ministers a sealed envelope. Opening it, the minister found a blank sheet of paper. He held up one side and exclaimed: “My brethren, here is nothing.”

Then he held up the other side, and added: “And here is nothing. It was out of nothing God created all things.”

He then proceeded to deliver a dynamic discourse on the power and wonders of creation. He received the appointment.

God Did It!

thought of day header

Monday October 3, 2022

Zechariah 4:6
So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.”

He says, “I will do it for you. Why do you worry? I will do it for you. I am God. I am Jehovah. I am your righteousness. I am your provider. I am your healer. I am your banner of victory. I am your shepherd. I am your peace. I am your everything.”

If God is all this to us, then there is no reason why anybody should be downhearted in this hour. If God could make a world out of nothing, why can’t He make anything He wants now for His people? God invites us to see Him work. . . .

If we will unite our hearts and intentions and dare to believe it, we will see God begin to move in great strength and in great power. We will see coming down from heaven that which we so desperately struggled to bring in from the outside. We will see the great God do it and then it will not be said, “This man did it,” or “That woman did it.” But we can all say together, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” – Zechariah 4:6 (KJV).

reflecting with God header
Thinking, praying, reading, studying the Bible – when we do these things, we are reflecting on the Word of God. To reflect is to contemplate and/or consider, and God wants us to deeply reflect on His Word so that we can better understand Him.

Monday Reflecting

“We are your servants, ready to do whatever my lord the king commands.” – 2 Samuel 15:15.

If we are really and always and equally ready to do whatsoever the king appoints, all the trials and vexations, arising from any change in His appointments, great or small, simply do not exist. If He appoints me to work there, shall I lament that I am not to work here? If He appoints me to wait indoors to-day, am I to be annoyed because I am not to work out of doors? If I meant to write His messages this morning, shall I grumble because He sends interrupting visitors, rich or poor, to whom I am to speak them, or “show kindness” for His sake, or at least obey His command “Be courteous”? If all my members are really at His disposal, why should I be put out if to-day’s appointment is some simple work for my hands, or errands for my feet, instead of some seemingly more important doing of head or tongue?

Beyond All Expectation!

But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 2:9-16.

I’ll be honest with you all who are reading this; my age is starting to tell on me. Not just physically which it most certainly is revealing, but also in my thoughts at times. This last week as I was praying and meditating on some of the things of the Lord, is a case in point. Now, I have always been a person who questions just about everything. You might get the image of that small child tugging on their parents clothing and asking “why?” all the time. Well, I don’t think I have ever outgrown that! I still do that to our Heavenly Father and believe me, I am so very thankful for His longsuffering nature and His patience!

What I was contemplating and thinking about was Heaven and our eternal state and just what it might be like. I know that to a great degree it is just speculation, but I also believe that the Holy Spirit within us gives us hints now and then; little bits that our finite minds can at least start to grasp.

pd extraordinary

The thing I was questioning the Lord about was related to our memories and such and especially in relation to Him “wiping away every tear.” Revelation 21:4 states it this way, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (NKJV).

My questions to the Lord amounted to wondering how there could be no sorrow if our memories were intact, especially in the area of remorse and even those things that caused pain. After all, aren’t those things part of what makes us who we are, even IN the Lord?

Of course then something dawned on me concerning eternity; there is NO time. In that regard we will be more and more in the likeness of our God in which He created us. Yes, we have a beginning (though in God’s mind, He has known us always!) but we will be eternal, without end, just as He created us to be. That’s where some of the questions for me were answered.

Think about it. In the natural we have a saying that “time heals all wounds.” Now in actuality, it doesn’t heal the wounds, but it lessens the pain of those wounds by placing them further and further into our memories. Over time, especially a great deal of time, the memories don’t remain as sharp or as painful in relation to those hurts and pain.

It’s very possible that God WILL take our sorrows and pains away immediately, after all, He created us and He will always remain sovereign AND He is going to give us a glorified body like Christ Jesus has once He calls us Home. But even if it is not instantaneous, the stigma of that remorse and those sorrows will probably be overshadowed with the perfect joy we will be able to bask in.

The other thing is this; the average lifespan today is about 80 years. That’s eight decades and I am already starting my eight decade and there are certainly things in my past that though I regret extremely and am sorrowful for, the pain of that has diminished. Now understand that the lessons I have learned from them have caused me to be the person I am today, but those early pains and sorrows don’t hinder me from moving forward in the Lord.

Here’s my point; in 1000 years of living in the presence of our Heavenly Father and working with our Lord and Savior in total and absolute joy, how is a memory like that going to even matter. By that time, we will already be who we are in Christ. We will be ever moving forward in the work the Lord has prepared for us. This past life will in most likelihood appear to be but an infinitesimal dream; and it will be all because that is how God, as our Father, created us!

pd life forever

When I thought of that, I couldn’t help but praise and glorify the Lord and give Him thanks for choosing someone like me. The fact is, this is His desire for ALL His creation, but all of His creation does not give it even the slightest thought and without that effort, they will most certainly, sadly, miss out on the greatest gift in anyone’s life!

You can understand how Paul must have felt when encouraging the church of Corinth in that portion of his letter to them. However God chooses to accomplish what He has promised, it will be with perfection and we will be the beneficiaries of that eternal gift! I for once look forward to that time and it causes me to continue to press on, even more so today, in spite of the circumstances surrounding us.

My prayer and my hope, is that all of you reading this can also see that glimmer of hope and joy, and though we can’t totally imagine or comprehend the fulness of it, we DO have the Spirit’s promise and guarantee that it is waiting for each and everyone of us who is abiding in the Lord!

Questions On Bible Prophecy – 4

prophetic words header wp

*Pastor’s Note: We will continue, in no particular order questions posed from the excellent book by Mark Hitchcock entitled, The Complete Book of Bible Prophecy. My hope and prayer is that it will give some insight into much of the end-times prophecy the Bible speaks of and hopefully alleviates some of the fears and confusion people have about studying prophecy. The following is the next in a line of questions I present to you from his book:

Isn’t Studying Bible Prophecy All Just Speculation?

Bible prophecy has often suffered as much at the hands of its friends as it has at the hands of its foes. Date setting, newspaper exegesis, identifying the Antichrist, and reckless speculation have turned many people off to Bible prophecy. Added to this is the frustration many people feel in wading through all the different views of the end times. Therefore, many of God’s children simply write off studying Bible prophecy as an exercise in futility. I have personally heard many people say that when it comes to the last days, no one really has any idea what is going to happen.

While it is certainly true that a small group of overzealous speculators have tainted the legitimate study of Bible prophecy and that there are a number of views of the last days, this should in no way dampen our fervor in studying the end times. Almost every area of Bible study or theology has its quacks, and there are differing views on many subjects in the Bible. But we should not allow this to scare us off from discovering God’s truth on any subject he has revealed to us. We should apply the same principles of sound interpretation that we use in other areas of theology and Bible study to the study of prophecy. When we do, we will begin to see and understand the true benefits of studying prophecy, which not only informs us about future events but calls us to be ready for Christ’s return. Handling Bible prophecy inappropriately keeps us from discovering these benefits. That is why we need to approach the study of Bible prophecy with an attitude of humility, as well as excitement and expectation.

Mr. Hitchcock’s teachings are informative and enlightening as well as inspirational and any book you can get for yourself from his writings will most definitely be well-worth it. I hope you are blessed AND informed and some of these questions and answers will give you a greater strength to walk in confidence and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Bible prophecy ALWAYS points to God and His plans for this world that He created through Christ Jesus. Therefore, for true Christians, it is meant to be a comfort that God continues as always to have everything under control despite what it might appear to the average person.
