Authority
When He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease (Matthew 10:1).
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18).
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God (Romans 13:1).
No authority has power to impose error, and if it resists the truth, the truth must be upheld until it is admitted.
~ Lord John Acton
It is right to submit to higher authority whenever a command of God would not be violated.
~ St Basil the Great
Cast away authority, and authority shall forsake you.
~ Robert Hugh Benson
Self-chosen authority is an impertinence. Jesus said that the great ones in this world exercise authority but that in his kingdom it is not so; no one exercises authority over another because in his kingdom the king is servant of all. If a saint tries to exercise authority, it is a proof he is not rightly related to Jesus Christ.
~ Oswald Chambers
Authority is not a short way to the truth; it is the only way to many truths; and for men on earth, it is the only way to divine truths.
~ Vincent McNabb
Men desire authority for its own sake that they may rule, command, and control other men, and live un-commanded and uncontrolled themselves.
~ Sir Thomas More
Authority is like a bar of soap—the more you use it the less you have.
~ John Wimber
