Is it not so much better that the people of Jesus are what they are, that they may be better suited for your glory, and that their wants may give an opportunity for grace?

Almighty Sovereign! If I were always poor, needy, or feeling my nothingness, it would motivate me to come to you. Every day’s necessities would offer a fresh chance to crown you Lord of all in a day of grace, until I come to crown you, with the whole church, the everlasting Lord of all in heaven, to the glory of God the Father.

Almighty Father! Let my poor soul ever praise you, love you, obey you, and adore you. I praise you that you have fulfilled this covenant promise to your dear Son. And you have indeed subdued the natural stubbornness of my nature, and made me willing to be saved, your way.

And now, blessed Lord, I want to bend the knee of my heart to Jesus, and every day, every hour, ascribe the whole of my salvation “to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb that was slain, forever!”

Blessed Jesus, what is it now but your favor that secures me in your love, and gives me inexpressible mercy, pardon, and peace now, and everlasting glory hereafter? Is not your favor better than life? Is it not more precious than rubies? Can there be anything better?

Truly, Lord, in you and your favor I have life, for you are both my light and my life. My heart trusts in you. Remember me then, Lord, with the favor that you give your people. Visit me with your salvation,
