1 JOHN 3:1
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us,
that we should be called children of God!
Yes, let us behold this a little while today!
Let us behold the grace of God by which we are saved into the relationship of sonship. He would not have us slaves who tremble at the voice of their master and are unwilling to do even the least that He commands.
Nay, He transforms His enemies into friends. He sets us free from the spirit of bondage and gives us the spirit of adoption by which we cry confidently, Abba, Father! And by which we rejoice to know and to follow the will of the Father.
What grace from God that He saves us in this way!
He woos us away from sin and from our former manner of life. Can you imagine anything more beautiful?
With the glow of His love He melts the chains which bind us to sin. In His unfathomable love He entreats us to cast ourselves into His open arms. With this same love He gives us courage to acknowledge the truth to Him and make full confession of everything.
From that moment He can begin to reveal to us the glory of the entire realm of the invisible.
By His love He draws us steadily farther and farther into this invisible realm. And the more we become acquainted in this realm of the divine, the easier it becomes for us to deny sin, the more circumspect we become with respect to everything sinful.
We experience a new wealth of life which enables us willingly and gladly to surrender the old.
Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us!
“O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That in Thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.”
