Luke 22:15

Luke 22:15
“I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”

It is sad to think of all the believers who for one reason or another neglect the Communion Table.

There are some people who as a matter of principle do not partake of the Sacrament of the Altar. But aside from them there are not many Christians among us who openly despise our Lord’s precious Supper.

But they neglect it, nevertheless. They seldom go to Communion. Many, because they do not deem themselves worthy. Alas, what damage has not the thought of the “unworthy” communicant wrought in the church of Christ!

When we go to the Table of the Lord, only that is required which is always required when we draw near unto God: that we turn to Him in our helplessness with sincere hearts, that He may save us from our sins. This Table is a Table of grace.

Here He waits to impart, freely and without merit on our part, the riches of His grace to all poor, empty, and anxious souls. Here He waits to warm the cold-hearted, to quench the thirsty, to satisfy the hungry, to strengthen the weak hands and to confirm the feeble knees.

Whenever you come to His Table, He enters quickly and unnoticed into your soul and body and does His hidden but blessed work.

Go to the Lord’s Table therefore as often as it is set where you are present. Never sit as an on-looker when other children of God go to Communion. Go and commune and praise the Lord who gave you also this opportunity.

“Thus may we all Thy word obey,
For we, O God, are Thine;
And go rejoicing on our way,
Renewed with strength divine.”
