*Pastor’s Note: This is a special Food For Thought. I love science. That’s the truth. But – I love hard, factual, quantifiable science. Not so much theoretical although some theoretical science fascinates me as long as it isn’t taught as factual, similar to what is being taught today about evolution. You see, evolution is still a theory and an extremely flawed one at that, but so many push it down people’s throats as if it’s true. If you believe the Word of God, the Holy Bible, you know that is one theory that is outrageously false!
But remember this; real, true science is the pursuit of the truth IN knowledge. God instilled that in us when He created us in His image AND likeness! You see, all knowledge, thus the truth is an aspect of His nature and character. He IS omniscient. He is also, omnipotent, all powerful. With just those two characteristics alone it is not easy to dismiss TRUE hard science for that knowledge, the TRUE knowledge comes directly from Him! Remember the days and age we live in. Daniel prophesied this centuries ago:
“But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.” – Daniel 12:4. (bold emphasis mine).
As TRUE Christians, followers of Christ Jesus, we don’t need to fear science, we can embrace hard science for it comes directly from the Father above and it ALWAYS points to His wisdom and knowledge!
Isaiah 40:22, “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”
1 Corinthians 1:27-29, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God.”
Because God Is
Non-Christian scientists Whitehead and Oppenheimer rightly said that the earliest scientists – Galileo, Newton, Farrady, Copernicus – could be scientific because they believed in an ordered system of a sovereign, orderly God. “Men became scientific because they expected Law in Nature,” C.S. Lewis wrote, “and they expected Law in nature because they believed in a Legislator.”
Humanistic scientists accept the validity of the early scientists’ faith in an orderly system, based on an orderly God, but personally reject that God, preferring to see life as the result of blind, mechanistic, indiscriminate chance. How inexcusably inconsistent! Unbelieving scientists study creation as if God exists, but personally live as if he doesn’t. Since they personally refuse God’s existence, how can they explain an orderly universe based on chance?

Do not be afraid of being free thinkers. If you think strongly enough you will be forced by science to the belief in God, which is the foundation of all Religion. You will find science not antagonistic, but helpful to Religion. – Sir William Thomson, Lord Kelvin (1824-1907), pioneer in physics.
But again I looked and saw Jesus, my substitute, scourged in my stead and dying on the cross for me. I looked and cried and was forgiven. And it seems to be my duty to tell you of that Saviour, to see if you will not also look and live: How simple it all becomes when the Holy Spirit opens the eyes! – Sir James Young Simpson (1811-1907), pioneer of anesthetics.
There is abundant evidence that the Bible, though written by men, is not the product of the human mind. By countless multitudes it has always been revered as a communication to us from the Creator of the Universe. – Sir Ambrose Fleming (1849-1945), pioneer of electronics.
Both religion and science need for their activities the belief in God, and moreover God stands for the former in the beginning, and for the latter at the end of the whole thinking. For the former, God represents the basis, for the latter – the crown of any reasoning concerning the world-view. – Max Planck (1858-1947), pioneer of quantum physics.
