*Pastor’s Note: This is adapted for today from a prayer found on the internet a long time ago as an example of intercessory prayer.
Heavenly Father, God Who is Almighty,
It saddens our hearts to see the great suffering of Your beloved children in the world. We bring to mind all those locally, family, friends and neighbors who find themselves in a hard place. We especially pray for those who suffer physically with illness or mentally with depression or anxiety. There are so many today that are filled with such hopelessness and suicidal thoughts.
Lord, come into the hearts and shine Your light on all these with Your Holy Spirit and bring great love, hope and joy through us Your church, the Body of Christ. Help us to minister as You have gifted each of us and help us to serve others in the strength of Your Spirit and to work in unity together and in the bonds of peace. May we shine Your light and glory into the darkness and remain steadfast and true to You.
Lord, it disturbs us when we see world leaders embracing division instead of unity, pursuing wealth instead of justice and concealing lies instead of speaking out the truth. We lift all those in significant leadership to You. Though we may not agree or condone all their actions and words, Lord guide their thoughts, cover their actions and renew their minds. Protect them from the influence of the realms of darkness and sweep away any corruption. Cause them to realize You are the only hope for the nations.
We pray that You would lay out new paths of righteousness in troubled nations and lands. Lord, Your Word says that You raise kings and depose kings. You alone are sovereign throughout the world.
Father, it is also disturbing to see the difference between rich and poor ever widening. We lift all those in poverty, in ALL nations, to You. Come bring miracles of provision, healing and restoration. Speak into our personal lives so that we might play our part in changing the world and showing forth Your glory and unfailing love.
We ask all these things in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord. Amen and AMEN!
