I have fought within myself as to whether to address this or not and I would rather just give the particulars without any names and yet, we as teachers AND preachers, ministers (servants) of the Word of God have to make a stand and point out when something is wrong Biblically!
This came to me the other day in an article that my wife seen on a social media platform and expressed her concern about it. The article she referenced originated from the link I am giving you to see for yourself. I do not condone this well-known magazine nor subscribe to its ideas or opinions; it just happens to be the magazine that carried a version of the story. In actuality many media outlets have run a story about this.
I am only using a couple of excerpts from this article based on what was said; you can check out the link yourself if you so desire. USA Today Lady Gaga Article.
Lady Gaga slams Mike Pence as the ‘worst representation of what it means to be a Christian’
Lady Gaga had some choice words for Vice President Mike Pence.
The outspoken singer paused during a performance of “Million Reasons” at her Las Vegas residency show “Enigma” Saturday to address the government shutdown and call out the nation’s top leaders, including President Donald Trump.
“If the (expletive) president of the United States could please put our government back,” Gaga, 32, told the crowd at MGM’s Park Theater. “There are people who live paycheck to paycheck and need their money.”
Lady Gaga then took aim at Pence, who recently defended his wife, Karen Pence’s, new teaching position at a private school that bans LGBT employees, gay students and the children of gay parents.
“To Mike Pence, who thinks that it’s acceptable that his wife works at a school that bans LGBTQ, you’re wrong,” she said. “You’re the worst representation of what it means to be a Christian.”
Lady Gaga continued: “I am a Christian woman, and what I do know about Christianity is that we bear no prejudice, and everybody is welcome. So you can take all that disgrace, Mr. Pence, and look yourself in the mirror and you’ll find it right there.”
Now I am not going to judge this celebrities salvation for that is and always will be Christ Jesus’ place and that judgement, one way or the other will take place soon enough. What I AM going to critique or “judge” is whether the behavior is truly Christ-like or not and I will do so with the ONLY Christian foundation available to mankind, the Bible, the Living Word of God.
I want it known that I do not know this celebrity. I know of her in the sense I have heard she is a singer. Evidently she is an actress too. I do know she is well known in younger circles. I do not know what kind of secular music or even the movies she has been in. BUT – I do know that Hollywood and celebrities have become very vocal towards those who try and practice their Christian beliefs.
First I will state this emphatically; Jesus Christ did NOT compromise His teachings, He was no respecter of persons, and when He taught, He taught with the goal of spreading the TRUTH in LOVE about the Kingdom of Heaven and our place in it and from an eternal point of view. The disciples He chose to follow Him and carry forth the same message, did so with NO compromise to His teachings or the truth and they themselves were no respecter of persons. They were commanded to spread His (Jesus’) teachings and to themselves make disciples of others until the time of Christ Jesus’ return to this earth!
I just finished another part of my expository teaching on 1 John and so the thought of what REAL love is and how it is demonstrated is so very fresh in my mind.
With that in mind, we have their (the Apostles and disciples as well as Prophets of old) writings, proven over centuries that they are inspired by the Hand of God Himself through the Holy Spirit of God. They are the basis of our FAITH, which without we CANNOT even PLEASE God Almighty!
I have to ask, is it Christ-like (I’m so hesitant today to use the term “Christian” because like many things, the world has TWISTED its meaning), to criticize another who claims to be a follower of Christ because they believe that sin should not be accepted as a matter of course?
I also love that so many of these “Christians” feel it is okay to use vulgarities in their speech and especially when describing themselves as “Christians.” And as a “Christian,” woman or otherwise, where does their knowledge of what Christianity really is, come from?
Though it is true that Christ Jesus loves everyone of God’s creation, as demonstrated by His voluntary Blood Sacrifice for mankind’s sinfulness on the Cross, was He not prejudiced when it came to sin and living a lifestyle of sin?
For instance, His love for the person(s) who were caught in sin was demonstrated by His mercy but also by a command:
This was Jesus’ interaction with the man He healed at the Bethesda pool in Jerusalem,
14 “Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
This was Jesus’ interaction with the woman caught in adultery,
3-4 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
5 “Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”
6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.
7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
What is the commonality and the key in both these instances? “Go and sin no more!” What did Jesus do? He showed mercy and compassion in forgiving them of their sins FIRST and only then did He say, “Go and sin no more!”
God the Father did the same for us as written by the Apostle Paul in Romans 5:
6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
We were STILL sinners. We hated God, we were of the world, yet God’s love was demonstrated by paying the debt of our sin. But what are we told and taught; “Go and sin no more!”
26-27 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.
Now I presented all this to you for this point; God loves His creation despite the fact that they are sinful. BUT – He made a Way for them that satisfies the penalty FOR that sin. If you accept it, you don’t continue to live in that sin. Does God stop loving you if you don’t accept His Gift of payment? Absolutely NOT! He never stops loving you, but you have made a choice. Accept the payment Given freely, or reject it and pay the price yourself!
There are too many in this world today that want God’s love and all the blessings that go with it, yet forget that God cannot be in the presence or condone continuing sinful behavior. I don’t care WHAT the sin is! A lifestyle of telling little white lies or stealing a few inconsequential office supplies from your work is as deadly as someone who commits murder! God does NOT put a level or degree of severity on sin, only man does that, to his own detriment!
The world does NOT like it, when a true follower of Christ tells them, I love God’s creation, I love them with actions and not just feelings, but I, like my Heavenly Father, will not excuse or justify sin. See, they think like these celebrities they are acting out of some twisted sense of love, but in actuality they are acting out of selfishness and self-centeredness! They want to fulfill the lusts in their heart, whether it be lying, stealing, cheating or having promiscuous and unnatural sex. The world wants what it wants.
So I would say this to anyone who is persecuted and condemned for standing up for their Biblical beliefs, remember this:
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.”
12 “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
1 John 2:
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world.
17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
It is never an easy or a pleasant thing; but consider this; you MUST be doing something right if you are being persecuted for standing up against sinfulness.
1 John 3:
6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.”
19 “If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
1 Corinthians 3:
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;
20 and again, “The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”
In closing I want you to remember the words of Jesus and the assurances He gave us but also the warnings in dealing with the world:
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
14 “Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15 ¶ “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
16 “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
17 “Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
21 ¶ “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
24-25 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26-27 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.
44 “For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.
45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say?”
Out of the abundance of the heart; whatever is in THEIR heart, they WILL speak it! AND, you SHALL know them by their fruit!
We need to hold our leaders up, ALL of our leaders in prayer, but we also need to pray continually and fervently for the lost!
