Have you ever felt discouraged and/or wondered if you were really accomplishing anything? Have you ever sometimes thought to yourself, “If I only had a ministry like so and so. Then, I would do great things for the Lord.”
Be honest with yourself. I know you have, because I have myself, and believe me when I say that I am the least of any of you. Don’t confuse this statement with false humility. I have been constantly amazed at the strength of the intercessors God has graciously allowed me to meet over the internet.
Luke 18:1-8 starts out by saying this, “Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart—“ and He (Jesus) proceeded to tell the parable of the unjust judge and the widow woman.
Have you ever thought about why prayer was such a key point to our Great Teacher and Lord. Because it is the most powerful gift we have in developing an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Think about communication in general for just a moment. It can cover a wide range of subjects. We can ask things. We can command things. We can develop relationships and intimacies. We are able to forgive hurts, and tell our Heavenly Father about hurts. We can use the process of communication to cover the whole spectrum of emotion and sentiment.
What does our Heavenly Father want from us, His lowly creation? Why did Jesus teach us about prayer the way He did with the emphasis on it like He did? Remember all the times the religious leaders tried to trick Him up? They were always asking Him, “By what authority do you do this and why do you say the things you do?” and so forth.
Jesus was always faithful to let them know that it was because He only said and did what the Father wanted Him to do and say! Why? Because He had an intimate relationship with the Father and He desires ALL disciples who follow after Him to use His example and have the same relationship with our Father! He taught that to the disciples two thousand years ago, and His Spirit is still teaching it until the time He comes back to take us Home to be with Him.
So, don’t be discouraged or down hearted because you don’t see a specific answer right away. Or, because maybe you don’t feel you are contributing. You ARE getting to know the Father with every instant that your mind and heart, as well as your words, are centered on Him! Jesus taught us to pray because of the power of the intimate relationship with the Father that stems from those prayers, or that act of communication.
Also, there is no greater power or show of love for your fellow man as well as the Lord, than to intercede (stand in the gap) on behalf of another. So, don’t stop praying and don’t lose heart; after all, your heart truly belongs to the Lord!!!
Your brother and friend in Christ;
