TV Misrepresentations

It is pitiable how biased persons deceive the public via the mass communications media. During a CBS documentary, for instance, the camera focused on a pitiful Negro infant who was nothing more than skin and bones. It came out later that this little child, instead of being a victim of malnutrition, was born to a healthy, well-nourished mother. It was born prematurely, however, and weighed only 2 pounds, 12 ounces at birth. The baby died within five days after birth as a consequence of its prematurity. But millions of viewers were led to believe that malnutrition was the cause of the child’s condition.

But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. – 2 Timothy 3:13

This Experience Must Come – Oswald Chambers

thought of day header

For Thursday August 11, 2022:

THIS EXPERIENCE MUST COME

2 Kings 2:12 (NKJV)
So he saw him no more.

It is not wrong to depend upon Elijah as long as God gives him to you, but remember the time will come when he will have to go; when he stands no more to you as your guide and leader, because God does not intend he should. You say—‘I cannot go on without Elijah.’ God says you must.

Alone at your Jordan. 2 Kings 2:14. Jordan is the type of separation where there is no fellowship with anyone else, and where no one can take the responsibility for you. You have to put to the test now what you learned when you were with your Elijah. You have been to Jordan over and over again with Elijah, but now you are up against it alone. It is no use saying you cannot go; this experience has come, and you must go. If you want to know whether God is the God you have faith to believe Him to be, then go through your Jordan alone.

Alone at your Jericho. 2 Kings 2:15. Jericho is the place where you have seen your Elijah do great things. When you come to your Jericho you have a strong disinclination to take the initiative and trust in God, you want someone else to take it for you. If you remain true to what you learned with Elijah, you will get the sign that God is with you.

Alone at your Bethel. 2 Kings 2:23. At your Bethel you will find yourself at your wits’ end and at the beginning of God’s wisdom. When you get to your wits’ end and feel inclined to succumb to panic, don’t; stand true to God and He will bring His truth out in a way that will make your life a sacrament. Put into practice what you learned with your Elijah, use his cloak and pray. Determine to trust in God and do not look for Elijah any more.

Daily Prayer & Praise 8/10/2022

Prayer for Wednesday 8-10-2022

Lord our God! What can separate us from Your love? Can trouble or fear or persecution or hunger or nakedness or peril or the sword? In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Dear Father in Heaven, we long for courage and strength. You will answer our prayers and again and again grant us strength, and the abundant and glorious power of Your Holy Spirit, the only power that can strengthen us. We thank You for all You have done for us. Help us onward from victory to victory until everything on earth is won for the good, to Your honor and Your great glory among all humankind. In Your Son’s name, Jesus, we pray.

Amen.

Birth of The Credit Union

Millions take their credit unions for granted until they need a low interest loan. But how many know that the credit union idea was born in the mind of a devoted Christian who established the first union as part of his discipleship.

Friedrich W. Raffeisen was the almost-blind mayor of a small German town. His father had died the year after he was born and he was tutored by a minister. As a child and later in public life he kept as his motto: “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

He saw the hardship of poor people during a time of famine when peasants existed on a diet of sauerkraut and chicory brew. Most of what they grew was pledged as payment on loans to local money lenders.

“But this is not the only reason for misery,” he wrote. “They have to change their ways. Look how they spend their money on cards and drinking each Saturday night.”

His first credit union, a cooperative of poor people, was so successful that he was asked to start others. Before he died, he had personally organized 423 credit unions and the fame of his plan had spread throughout Europe.

“And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore. – Revelation 18:11

Song of Solomon 4:7 – A.B. Simpson

thought of day header

For Wednesday August 10, 2022:

SONG OF SOLOMON 4:7

Song of Solomon 4:7 (NKJV)
There is no spot in you.

The blessed Holy Spirit who possesses the consecrated heart is intensely concerned for our highest life, and watches us with a sensitive, and even a jealous love. Very beautiful is the true translation of that ordinary passage in the Epistle of James, “The Spirit that dwelleth in us loveth us to jealousy.”

The heart of the Holy Ghost is intensely concerned in preserving us from every stain and blemish, and bringing us into the very highest possibilities of the will of God.

The Heavenly Bridegroom would have His Church not only free from every spot, but also from “every wrinkle, or any such thing.” The spot is the mark of sin, but the wrinkle is the sign of weakness, age, and decay, and He wants no such defacing touch upon the holy features of His Beloved; and so the Holy Ghost, who is the Executor of His will, and the Divine Messenger whom He sends to call, separate, and bring home His Bride, is jealously concerned in fulfilling in us all the Master’s will.

Lord, take from me every blemish and mark of weakness and decay, and make me Thy spotless Bride.

“Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. – Exodus 17:6.

This is strange! A rock would seem the last place to choose for the storage of water. But God’s cupboards are in very unlikely places. Ravens bring food. The Prime Minister of Egypt gives corn. Cyrus lets go the people of Israel from Babylon. The Jordan heals the leper. Meal makes poisoned pottage wholesome. Wood makes iron swim. It is worth while to go to Rephidim to get an insight into the fertility and inventiveness of God’s providence. There can be no lack to them that fear Him, and no fear of lack to those who have become acquainted with His secret storehouses. “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard . . . the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him; but God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit.”

You Are a Royal Priesthood

And take some blood from the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated. – Exodus 29:21.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. – 1 Peter 2:9-10.

In the Old Testament we see a lot of commandments that belong to God’s chosen, the children of Israel. They were all a set of natural obligations that were meant to foreshadow the spiritual to come. God had chosen Israel at that time to be His people set apart and He did that by choosing the lineage of Aaron as His priests within Israel from that time on.

Sadly, as the Old Testament shows, Israel could NOT keep the commandments and often times rejected the precepts of God to take part in those things common to other nations. However, though some believe Israel forfeited their chosen status, it is not permanent for God’s promises to His people are unfailing and the promises He made to them as a Nation, will come to past but not until the end of the Church age otherwise known as the dispensation of Grace.

That brings us to the New Testament. The Old Testament was God’s covenant with Israel and as I stated, a foreshadow of the covenant to come, not of natural laws and commandments but of spiritual laws written on the hearts of men rather than on tablets of stone.

Aaron and His sons were anointed with blood from the altar and some of the special anointing oil that God commanded Moses to have the Israelites build and make to set them apart so they can approach His holiness on behalf of the nation.

pd cross of christ

Today, because Jesus Christ came to fulfill His mission of completing the Old covenant and actually embodying it as All-Man and All-God, it is His blood from the altar of the Cross that He hung on and the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon each and everyone that has acknowledged in their hearts and have surrendered themselves to Him that is the type of spiritual anointing that Aaron and his lineage could only foreshadow.

This is why, when you hear someone tell you, that as a child of God, and heir and a son/daughter, you can be assured that it is not the blood of bulls and rams nor the manufactured anointing oil that does the work in you, but rather the Blood of the True and forever Living Lamb of God and the Holy Spirit that He sent to seal each and everyone of us who have accepted His gracious and most precious gift.

The reason you may ask, aside from salvation itself? “That you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light!” Peter wrote in previous verses, “As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:4-5.

Your priestly duties are to proclaim His Good News to the nations, to proclaim His praise and the reasons WHY we praise Him, because He freed us from the darkness. These are the “spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God.” That is what is and always has been precious to Him.

In 1 Samuel 15:22, the prophet wrote, “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” The prophet Hosea later recorded, “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” – Hosea 6:6.

Under the old covenant, Aaron and his sons had to wear special clothing made to show they were set aside, in the new covenant under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we are given new robes of righteousness, cleansed by His Blood and sealed by His Holy Spirit to demonstrate to the world that we, as a chosen people, in God, have been specially set forth for His glory and His glory alone!

One question in closing; are YOU washed in that soul cleansing Blood of the Lamb. Are YOUR garments setting you apart in the eyes of the world? It only takes surrender to the One Who is willing to anoint and seal us for all eternity!

Daily Prayer & Praise 8/09/2022

Prayer for Tuesday 8-9-2022

Lord our God and our Father, we praise You because we are allowed to have community together in the name of Jesus, Who has opened our eyes to see You and Who has promised to be among us when we are gathered in His most precious name. May our hearts remain unshadowed, even when our lives seem to grow difficult and the future looks dark. Protect us whenever we are tempted and have battles to fight. Deliver us. Make us free people who know we belong to You in liberty and freedom from the bondage of sin and who are allowed while still on earth to have a share in eternal life in Your Kingdom You are even now preparing for us. In the mighty and redeeming name of Jesus, our Christ, our Lord, we come to You.

Amen.

D.L. Moody More Alive

Realizing that he would soon be gone from this world one day, Moody said to a friend, “Someday you will read in the papers that D. L. Moody of Northfield is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it.

“At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I shall have gone higher, that is all—out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal, a body that sin cannot touch, that sin cannot taint, a body fashioned into His glorious body. I was born in the flesh in 1837; I was born of the Spirit in 1856. That which is born of the flesh may die; that which is born of the Spirit will live forever.”

Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” – Revelation 14:13

Love Thy Neighbor – C.H. Spurgeon

thought of day header

For Tuesday August 9, 2022:

LOVE THY NEIGHBOR

Matthew 19:19 (NKJV)
“‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Remember that man’s good requires that you should be kind to your fellow creatures. The best way for you to make the world better is to be kind yourself. Are you a preacher? Preach in a surly way, and in a surly tone to your church; a pretty church you will make of it before long! Are you a Sunday-school teacher? Teach your children with a frown on your face; a fine lot they will learn! Are you a master? Do you hold family prayer? Get in a passion with your servants, and say, “Let us pray.” A vast amount of devotion you will develop in such a manner as that. Are you a warder of a gaol, and have prisoners under you? Abuse them and ill-treat them, and then send the chaplain to them. A fine preparation for the reception of the word of God! You have poor around you; you wish to see them elevated, you say. You are always grumbling about the poverty of their dwellings, and the meanness of their tastes. Go and make a great stir at them all—a fine way that would be to improve them! Now, just wash your face of that black frown, and buy a little of the essence of summer somewhere, and put it on your face; and have a smile on your lip, and say, “I love you. I am no cant, but I love you, and as far as I can I will prove my love to you. What can I do for you? Can I help you over a stile? Can I give you any assistance, or speak a kind word to you? Perhaps I could look after your little daughter. Can I fetch the doctor to your wife now she is ill?” All these kind things would be making the world a little better.

Daily Prayer & Praise 8/08/2022

Prayer for Monday 8-8-2022

Lord our God, we come before You in the great name of Jesus Christ. We thank You that while we are still living on earth You give us hope and joy in this great name. May something be born in us through Your Guiding Spirit to make us of one mind with Jesus Christ. In all our relationships with others may we learn that it is better to submit in patience than to dominate, better to serve than to rule, better to be the weakest than to bring pressure to bear on others. Give us this attitude we humbly ask. Let this attitude arise in many so that they may be Christians not only in their words and thoughts, but Christians at heart, loving their neighbors and at one with the Savior on every step of the way. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, we ask this of You.

Amen.

So, It’s True!

A newspaper article referred to a striking story in an anonymous book of memoirs published not long ago. The writer met the woman who nursed the great agnostic, Professor J. H. Huxley, through his last illness. She said that as he lay dying the great skeptic suddenly looked up at some sight invisible to mortal eyes, and, staring a while, whispered at last, “So it is true.”

A Unique Power – A.W. Tozer

thought of day header

For Monday August 8, 2022:

A UNIQUE POWER

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.”

This power is to come upon powerless men as a gentle but resistless invasion from another world, bringing a moral potency infinitely beyond anything that might be stirred up from within. This power is sufficient; no additional help is needed … for it is the Holy Spirit of God come where the weakness lay to supply power and grace to meet the moral need.

“Ye shall receive power.” This was and is a unique afflatus, an enduement of supernatural energy affecting every department of the believer’s life and remaining with him forever. It is not physical power nor even mental power though it may touch everything both mental and physical in its benign out workings. It is, too, another kind of power than that seen in nature, in the lunar attraction that creates the tides or the angry flash that splits the great oak during a storm. This power from God operates on another level and affects another department of His wide creation. It is spiritual power. It is the kind of power that God is. It is the ability to achieve spiritual and moral ends. Its long-range result is to produce Godlike character in men and women who were once wholly evil by nature and by choice.

For Monday August 8, 2022:

So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. – Exodus 15:25.

Beside each bitter Marah pool there grows a tree, which, when cast into the waters, makes them palatable and sweet. It is ever so. Poison and antidote, infection and cure, pain and medicine, are always close together. The word which saves is nigh even in the mouth and in the heart. We do not always see the “sufficient grace”; but it is there. Too occupied with our disappointment, we have no heart to seek it; but when we cry, it is shown to our weary longing eyes.
