Lord, hear our prayer:

Father, we thank you for those first disciples of Jesus. He chose them, called them and appointed them, and empowered them to proclaim the good news of the kingdom. Thank you that because of them, and countless faithful Christians down the centuries, we have been able to hear the call of Christ for ourselves today. We thank you that the good news of Jesus could not be confined to one age or culture; that the love that touched and changed those first twelve disciples has, down the centuries and all across the world, claimed people for Christ. We praise you and give you thanks in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
