Salt of the Earth

JESUS said of this company of believers, “You are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13). Yes, indeed, God’s people are the salt of the earth. Salt retards corruption. Salt will not prevent corruption from setting in eventually, but it retards it and delays it. So, too, the presence in the world today of a company of believers called “the salt of the earth” is the only reason God has not yet visited this world with catastrophe and judgment. Man is frantic in his fear of world catastrophe in this atomic age with all sorts of strange signs in the heavens. He has set up organizations and committees and associations and alliances; he has spent billions for defense, and signed pacts and agreements in an effort to avert the atomic end of the world. But more important, yes, all important in holding back the judgment of God is this other company, this little company, the “salt of the earth.”
