Love According to God-Love, Walk the Talk


My Brother-in-Christ, Wally Fry started a new devotional/study series for his church website based on God’s Love called “Love According To God,” and His command to us to love as well.

Those of you who know me and have known me, know how much I love to teach on Love, unconditional Godly Love, so this is a joy for me to see someone else take up this subject in this way. Besides, Brother Wally isn’t as “wordy” as me and comes right to the point! 😉

1 John 3:17,18

But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, asked a very pointed question in that passage: He basically is asking how, if one person has sufficiency to help a brother in need but does not, he or she can even claim to be Christian?

That passage is all about “Walking the talk.” We can talk all day about how we love; we can even make claims about how we feel about another person. But until we put legs on that love, John is saying we cannot make a legitimate claim to belonging to Jesus.
