Love According to God-It All Hangs on Love


My Brother-in-Christ, Wally Fry started a new devotional/study series for his church website based on God’s Love called “Love According To God,” and His command to us to love as well.

Those of you who know me and have known me, know how much I love to teach on Love, unconditional Godly Love, so this is a joy for me to see someone else take up this subject in this way. Besides, Brother Wally isn’t as “wordy” as me and comes right to the point! 😉

Matthew 22: 37-40

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.


Yesterday we discussed the same passage as we will briefly discuss today. Today our focus will be on the last sentence of the passage. What does it mean that all the law and the prophets hang on those two greatest commandments?

It’s a pretty visual and simple illustration Jesus used, really. Just picture a rack entitled, “love.” On the rack there are two pegs, “The Law” and “The Prophets.” Now picture what happens if there is not a rack entitled “love.” Got that? The pegs fall to the ground if…
