Most everybody loves Christmas; they love the comradery, the festiveness, and how everyone seems to be on their best behavior. The sad part is that so much of the time it is very, very temporary and after the festivities, December 26 goes back to “business as usual.”Brother Don Merritt has challenged us with the truth; while we seek the Christ of Christmas, we should be seeking a relationship with a very real and accessible Redeemer! When you watch movies about Christmas, you almost get the idea that there is something magical about it, but sadly, this really isn’t true. In fact, this attitude results in quite a bit of disappointment and sadness.
There is no magic about Christmas as a date on the calendar. But there is great power in the One whose birth we celebrate. It could be that most people just behave better at this time, once the shopping, preparation and craziness are over and they can sit back and relax. Maybe for some, their humanity is more visible; the truth is, I don’t know.
