PLEASE read 1 Corinthians 12 and 13.
First, I do NOT discount prophecy, or the Lord revealing His plans to His children as a warning AND as an assurance for the end times. I will tell you right now at this point, if you have a problem with what the Apostle Paul and others describe as the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, you need read no further, because I already know the closed-minded beliefs that some have concerning those gifts!! As long as you believe in the death, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and you walk in that belief, I consider you a brother and/or sister in Christ!
Some denominations denounce modern-day prophecy as a trick of the devil and that prophecy ended with the establishment of the “Christian” Church. The term “Christian” for those unaware was first coined by the Romans to describe the “new religion” established after the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, though Christ Himself came not to establish ANY religion, but rather to establish a spiritual rebirth within His believers uniting Himself AND His Father to the believer through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit!
I believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit ARE relevant for today and are manifested to edify, encourage and instruct the ever maturing Body of Christ and not just, as some teach to “just” get the Church established and then leave it to its own devices. The Holy Spirit inspired the writers behind the Books and Epistles in the Bible and the Holy Spirit would have made it simply and perfectly clear if the gifts were simply a “start-up” for the Church, after the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus. Christ Jesus, prophesied AND promised the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit after His Resurrection and the very disciples that He commissioned and ordained to continue His work, wrote about the continuing workings and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I know the arguments other denominations use to reject the modern-day giftings of the Holy Spirit and sadly most of those arguments revolve around the use of TONGUES, which in all honesty IS used to an extreme in some denominations to explain the gifts, when in actuality, the Gift of Tongues is spoken of as the very LEAST of all Spirit-Gifts due to the fact that it is the ONLY Spiritual gift that is SELF-EDIFYING as opposed to the other gifts such as prophecy that edifies the Body of Christ and demonstrates Agape (unconditional) love as a whole rather than just for the benefit of the individual member! The TRUE evidence of being filled (not saying baptized) with the Holy Spirit is and always was AGAPE (unconditional DIVINE love)!!
I personally believe that we have to “take with a grain of salt” every person who states they have a prophetic word from God. By the same token there are a few Scriptures that show us HOW to approach someone who says they have a Prophetic Word.
1 Thessalonians 5:19-21, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.”
1 John 4:1-3, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”
2 Peter 1:19-21, “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”
Deuteronomy 18:21-22, “And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’ – “when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”
I will not speak about prophetic words for individuals because that is something entirely different than what I am discussing here. The Living Word of God is for ALL His Children and not just for one individual as described in these previous verses. They demonstrate love towards His children by His willingness to warn them of impending events that are within the scope of His plans and yet also assurances that AS His Children, we have nothing to fear! From personal experience AND from years of studying the WHOLE Bible, when God Almighty gives a warning through His prophets, whether Prophets under the Old Covenant, or His disciples under the New Covenant, He ALWAYS gives an assurance as well for those who ARE truly his children.
I have witnessed too many churches that do SAY they walk in the Gifts of the Spirit, who allow words from individuals either too other individuals or to groups that give warning or even “correction” and end on a dire note without the word saying what assurance the individual or group has upon OBEYING the aforementioned word. In all honesty, I have no faith whatsoever in that type of word given and discount it immediately as from the Lord! Sorry if this “hurts” some people’s sensitivity concerning the Spiritual Gifts, but I would rather err on the side of caution and Agape Love than take EVERYTHING without “testing the spirits” behind the word!
Okay, with that in mind I want to present an interesting prophetic word that my wife’s sister came across online. Listen to it prayerfully, yet in the light of current events consider the truth behind this word and do NOT FEAR, but be assured that our Lord and Redeemer IS getting close!
