I Sincerely Apologize!

Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

I have to apologize to my followers and guests for something. There’s no justification, BUT, I do have a bit of an excuse.

First let me tell you, I have been involved in Online and Internet ministry since my accident in the mid 1990’s. I have had several websites, forums AND this WordPress Blog, “For The Love of God” is my second blog. My first blog was a WordPress blog associated with my Oasis Bible Ministry website, the format was just a little different but it was hacked. It was several months before I established another blog and I did so with the FREE .wordpress.com platform rather than the .org platform. Since June of 2014 I haven’t had any serious problems and have been going on just fine, with a few breaks now and then for health or computer reasons.

I KNEW there would be advertisements because it was/is the free platform, but try as I might I couldn’t find a way to see the ads and my understanding was that they would be towards the bottom of the articles.

Well, today (7-23-2019) my dear, sweet wife gave me a BIG wake-up call. As I was getting my coffee, and she was perusing my site, she made the comment that she wished it didn’t have SO MANY ADS on it. It never dawned on me to check my pages on her computer, don’t ask me why ’cause I couldn’t give you a good reason; I just assumed that what I saw on mine was the same on hers.

First, here’s what is on mine at the bottom of each of my articles:

Even when I am not in my Administration panel, but just on my site visiting it as another guest, this is what I see. I’m sure it has to do with the cookies and such from my personal computer. I’m fairly computer savvy but not expert by any means.

Well, when I looked at the page on Leonard Ravenhill I had JUST finished the other day, it was filled with advertisements throughout the article and after the subtitle, Shaped by God’s Design, was an ad for ladies lingerie!!! Totally, totally inappropriate with the pictures from the ad!

I will tell you, I was furious for I had absolutely no idea what KIND of ads are displayed across my Bible teachings! As I said, it was a real wake-up call. My wife had no idea that I didn’t know, but she understood I had no control over WHAT ads are placed.

I will tell you this; I believe WordPress is one of the BEST blog platforms for ministers and ministries like mine as well as for the person gifted from the Lord with an ability to write stories, tell poetry, etc. I would recommend them to anybody, BUT I would/will from now on, caution them as to what they might expect from ads on the FREE sites.

I know that they are in the business to make money and their prices are not that bad (and especially after seeing the placement of all those ads) but not everybody can afford to pay for upgrades. My wife and I are on Social Security so our income is limited and we NEVER ask for money or donations. God will and ALWAYS does provide!! That has been our faith AND our lifestyle!

I am telling you all this in the way of an apology. When I can, which might be a couple of months, I WILL be upgrading to an ADS-FREE plan so that you, the readers will NOT be subjected to ANY of the ads displayed. I know that ads may change from personal computer to computer due to the fact that ads are targeted to people who have shown interest in certain things. Still, remember, the person posting the articles have no control over the number or the type of ads that are being displayed.

For that matter, when I visit other WordPress free-plan blogs, I don’t see ads on their sites either and I have a lot of blogs I follow for inspiration, edification and enjoyment. Most of them are WordPress so I can only assume because the cookies on my computer show me to be a WordPress member, I don’t see the ads on other’s sites. I just don’t know.

I take my ministry (service) and what I put forth to the public very seriously for I believe that I WILL answer to the Lord for how I used the gifts he gave me. I truly am sorry for any type of ad that you may have had to endure because I didn’t think to pay for an upgraded plan! As I said, that will be changing, though it may be as long as a couple of months, so please, please bear with me.

Depending on what I can eventually afford, I may even be able to add a video or two or some music from time to time, I just have to research the cost and see what I can do. I know the plans are yearly, so it will have to be something we can do on a yearly basis.

In the meantime, thank you for your forgiveness AND your patience AND understanding. I do enjoy teaching the Word of God and I so appreciate every person who takes the time to read what I post whether it is serious as pertaining to the spiritual, or lighthearted as I do with the A Merry Heart posts.

God Bless You greatly for taking the time to read this;

Pastor Roland, yes, I really wondered about all the ads, and it does detract from trying to read it as well as create things on my phone that I do not want to be on there, so I do not read it on my phone. I wait to read it on my computer. But I really appreciate the things you write and would not miss them for the world. Yes, like the other person, I have no clue even to start on the one with all the ads, but do not be discouraged. Your message is too good to miss, and your affirmation of other posts on FB and your addition to them with your comments has been so helpful and appreciated. As a result I looked past all of these ads that you had no idea were on there, and enjoyed and learned from your blog.

    • I truly appreciate all the comments and I certainly don’t know why I never thought to use my wife’s laptop to check it out, but it WAS a shock to me. I do know ads are targeted depending on the cookies on each person’s device, none-the-less I couldn’t believe how many were on just that one page.

I have about 3 weeks before I can upgrade and have found a plan that works within my budget and gives me not just the AD-free version, but a couple of other things I would like to use. Teaching and serving are the things the Lord has placed on my heart and years ago after a serious accident I thought I was done with ministry until the Holy Spirit opened the door and pathway to meet others with conditions that the local churches seem to ignore because of the extra care needed to get them to church.

I try my hardest to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and believe the ONLY way we can learn, teach AND worship is to do so first with truth and then with the perspective of the Spirit leading! I appreciate your following along, just sorry for the inconvenience which hopefully soon will be gone! God Bless, Sis! Thanks for your continued prayers as well!

  2. I can appreciate your situation – and your horror at learning what’s been showing.
Thankfully, I have always had an ad-free plan, although I have been encouraged to “upgrade” so I can do fancier things with the one I have. Being “technologically challenged,” I have not upgraded. It’s all I can do to write an article a week with all the comments, responses, other blogs to read, and my current book effort. But I figure, if what I write is inspired, the words should be enough without a lot of bells and whistles … although I do enjoy the “extras” on other people’s blogs. If they can do it, more power to them. But as for me, for now, I’m just sticking with words…
